  Korey Bridy ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns to lead VMI to a 30-7 victory over Western Carolina on Saturday. It was the second straight win for VMI (2-0, 2-0 Southern Conference), which opened its season with a 14-10 victory over then-No. 10 Furman, its first win over a ranked opponent since 2002. Bridy scored on a 6-yard run in the first quarter and from the 1 late in the third. Both touchdowns capped long drives. Reece Udinski had a TD pass and completed 30 of 41 passes for 239 yards for the Keydets. Jerry Rice made field goals from 27, 29, and 32 yards. Western Carolina's Mikai Stanley ran for a 5-yard touchdown with 6:30 remaining to cap the scoring.   MARCH 1 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Connor Riddle, VMI, R-Sr., LB, Stafford, Va.,...VMI linebacker Connor Riddle had a career defensive day to lead the Keydets past No. 10 Furman, 14-13. The redshirt senior from Stafford, Virginia, had 13 tackles on the afternoon, with 4.5 of them going for 13 lost yards. Included in that total were 2.0 sacks for 8 yards, both of which came on Furman's final drive as it was moving toward field-goal range. Riddle also broke up a third-down pass in the third quarter that forced a punt, helping set up VMI's game-winning touchdown on the ensuing drive. Riddle, whose tackle, TFL and sack numbers were all career highs, was also named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.   NOV 25 SOCON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jarrod Richmond, VMI, Sr., DL, Bluefield, Va.,...VMI defensive lineman Jarrod Richmond had eight tackles, two quarterback hurries and a fumble return for a touchdown in the Keydets' win over Chattanooga, which gave VMI its most overall wins since 2003 and most conference wins in 40 years. The senior from Bluefield, Virginia, who recorded two solo stops, scooped up a loose ball at the VMI 36-yard line and returned it 64 yards for a score to make it 31-10 in the Keydets' favor, scoring what would prove to be the winning touchdown.   SEPT 9/WEEK 2 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kaleb Tucker, VMI, Sr., DB, Hampton, Va.,...VMI defensive back Kaleb Tucker had four tackles and a pair of interceptions in the Keydets' 63-21 win over Mars Hill on Saturday. The senior defensive back from Hampton, Virginia, recorded both interceptions in the first quarter, picking off a pass and returning it 21 yards to set up a score before adding another pick on the next Mars Hill possession that again led to a VMI touchdown as the Keydets built a 21-0 lead. All four of Tucker's tackles were solo stops, including a sack that went for a loss of 7 yards in the third quarter.   2019 PRESEASON SOUTHERN CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): WR Javeon Lara, Sr., VMI,...Lara is a three-year letterman and returning starter coming off an excellent 2018 season in which he accumulated the second most catches and yards among receivers with 53 catches for 825 yards. He led the team in touchdown receptions with seven and earned the team's longest reception of the year with a 72-yard touchdown catch against Samford.
