  NOV 7 SOCON SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jerry Rice, R-Jr., PK, VMI, Daleville, Va.,...VMI placekicker Jerry Rice matched his own shared school record with five field goals made in the Keydets' 34-15 loss to No. 10 Samford on Saturday. The redshirt junior converted from 34, 36, 39 and 36 yards in the first half, staking VMI to an early 9-0 lead and a 12-7 halftime advantage. Rice added a 38-yarder in the third quarter to match the program record for makes in a game that he already shared with Craig Jones. The five made field goals, which accounted for all of VMI's scoring on the day, are one shy of the SoCon's single-game record. Now with 189 career points to his credit, Rice is second all-time at VMI for a kicker.   Hunter Rice ran for 107 yards and a touchdown, Seth Morgan threw a long touchdown pass and VMI defeated Bucknell 24-14 on Saturday. Morgan hit Max Brimigion for a 55-yard touchdown, highlighting a first half in which the Keydets (1-1) built a 21-0 lead. Morgan completed 13 of 22 passes for 138 yards. Josh Knapp led the VMI defense with two interceptions. Jerry Rice moved into third place on VMI's career field goals list. Bucknell (0-2) was held to 178 yards despite a second-half rally led by backup quarterback Nick Semptimphelter, who threw two touchdown passes. He completed 9 of 18 passes for 95 yards.   Freshmen Rashad Raymond and Hunter Rice each ran for more than 100 yards to help VMI rout Mercer 45-7 in a key Southern Conference matchup on Saturday. The win puts VMI (5-2, 3-1) in a three-way tie with Mercer (4-2, 3-1) and East Tennessee State (6-1, 3-1) atop the conference standings. Raymond had a career-high 163 yards on 20 carries that included an 80-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Rice added three TD runs from short yardage and finished with a career-best 112 yards on 17 carries. Seth Morgan had a 13-yard touchdown run for the Keydets.   Jerry Rice's fifth field goal, which tied a school record, was a 37-yarder in overtime that gave VMI a 37-34 win over Chattanooga on Saturday. Rice's fourth field goal, a career-long 49-yarder with 41 seconds to play, put VMI up 34-31. But Chattanooga, ranked No. 19 in the FCS coaches' poll, quickly answered with Aaron Sears' 39-yard field goal with one second remaining. In OT, the Mocs picked up five yards but Sears pushed a 37-yard field goal attempt wide right. The Keydets also picked up five yards before Rice's winner, which matched a single-game record dating to 1977. The Keydets are 4-0 against the Mocs in OT games.

VMI (4-2, 2-1 Southern Conference) had 485 yards with Seth Morgan completing 30 of 42 passes for 306 yards and three touchdowns. Michael Jackson had two touchdown receptions, covering 19 and 29 yards, among his six catches for 140 yards. Korey Bridy had 36 carries for 165 yards. For the Mocs (2-3, 1-1), Tyrell Price had 122 yards on 17 carries and touchdowns covering 2 and 33 yards.   Korey Bridey rushed for a career-best 177 yards with two touchdowns, including the game-winner from 34 yards out and VMI opened defense of its Southern Conference crown by downing Wofford 31-23 on Saturday. Bridey opened the scoring with a five-yard TD on the game-opening drive, but the momentum see-sawed for the better part of three quarters until broke free for his 34-yarder with 2:55 left in the third. Jerry Rice added a 42-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter and the Keydets (3-1, 1-0) ended the game with a punt, an interception and a turnover on downs to hold off Wofford the rest of the way.

Collin Ironside started in place of Seth Morgan, who suffered a hit to the helmet in VMI's previous game, and was 18 of 22 passing for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Jimmy Weirick was 11-of-19 passing for 119 yards for the Terriers (1-2, 0-1) and scored two rushing touchdowns. Irvin Mulligan rushed 20 times for 134 yards. Mulligan tied the game at 7-7 with a 43-yard burst and Weirick gave Wofford a 14-7 lead with a four-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. Ironside threw for touchdowns of 20 and 47 yards to put VMI up for good, 21-14 in the third quarter. - AP College Football
