  10/22/19 - Savon ScarverrSr/2022, Utah State, 5-11, 184 (DS#100 WR) + More +

Savon Scarver has picked up where he left off as the nation's top kick returner. The Utah State junior ran back a kick 100 yards for a touchdown for the second time this season when he went the distance against Nevada on Saturday. He also had a 100 yarder against Colorado State on Sept. 28. Scarver, who averaged 33.7 yards per return to lead the nation in 2018, is averaging a Football Bowl Subdivision-best 43.4 yards on eight returns this season. "He has unbelievable natural instincts," Aggies coach Gary Andersen said. "He does a tremendous job of making things seem like not a big deal, but catching that ball when you're moving forward is such a part of being a great kickoff returner. He has 10 other guys that believe in him out on that field and know that if they get their block, there's a really good chance that some good things are going to happen. It becomes contagious."

All five of Scarver's school-record five kick return touchdowns have come in his last 32 runbacks. "Every time he can catch it, you better watch out," Andersen said. "The other guys deserve some credit also for making it so important for them to be at work every day in practice and knowing they have a big hitter behind them. It's awesome to watch him, it's like he's two gears ahead of everyone else on the field." The last two players to run back two kicks 100 yards in the same season were Tony Pollard of Memphis and Darius Phillips of Western Michigan in 2017. - AP College Football

Gerold Bright had 126 yards rushing and two scores on 15 carries, Savon Scarver had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and Utah State beat Nevada 36-10 in the snow on Saturday night. The Wolf Pack, on the game's opening possession, had first-and-goal from the 8 but a holding penalty and a false start forced them to settle for a 23-yard field goal by Brandon Talton. Scarver returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, the first of 36 consecutive points by the Aggies (4-2, 3-0 Mountain West). Bright scored on runs of 67 and 9 yards - just 84 seconds apart - to make it 36-3 with 10:03 left in the game. Taua had 20 carries for 80 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, for Nevada (4-3, 1-2). Utah State's two losses this year have both come on the road against Power 5 conference teams.   LSU's defense largely bottled up an up-tempo Utah State offense that came in averaging 533 yards 38.5 points per game. The Tigers intercepted quarterback Jordan Love three times. Freshman Derek Stingley Jr. displayed veteran-like savvy when he timed a spinning leap to high-point Love's fade pass to the right pylon in front of the intended receivers. Stingley held on for his second interception this season as he crashed down on his back at the LSU 1-yard line, and LSU responded with a 99-yard touchdown drive. Safety Grant Delpit and Kary Vincent also intercepted Love, who finished 15 of 30 for 130 yards. The Aggies (3-2) totaled 159 yards of offense. - LSU/AP College Football
