Deneric Prince rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns, Braylon Braxton threw for 302 yards and a score and Tulsa held off South Florida 48-42 on Friday night. Byrum Brown's 20-yard touchdown pass to Chris Mottillo helped South Florida grab a 10-0 lead. Tulsa closed to within 10-7 by quarter's end when Prince's 67-yard run set up a 3-yard touchdown run by Braxton. Tulsa (4-7, 2-5 American Athletic Conference) scored on three straight drives - short scoring runs by Steven Anderson and Prince around Braxton's 31-yard scoring strike to Keylon Stokes - and the Golden Hurricane led 28-13. Brown, who completed all 11 of his pass attempts in the first half, hit Sean Atkins for an 18-yard touchdown, but Zack Long kicked a 23-yard field goal with 3 seconds left to put Tulsa up 31-20 at halftime.

Braxton stretched Tulsa's lead to 38-20 with a 1-yard scoring run on the first possession of the third quarter. Brown answered with a 6-yard scoring run and a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jayson Littlejohn and Brian Battie's 2-point conversion run to get the Bulls within 38-35. South Florida (1-10, 0-7) turned a punt into a 13-yard loss on the first play of the fourth quarter, giving the Golden Hurricane a first down on the Bulls' 18-yard line. Three plays later Prince scored from a yard out to make it a two-score game. Battie scored on a 21-yard run with 2:49 to play for South Florida. An onside kick was unsuccessful but the Bulls defense forced a three-and-out. USF took over on its own 9-yard line and turned the ball over on downs without gaining a yard. Brown completed 21 of 25 passes for 240 yards for USF. Battie rushed for 169 yards on 19 carries. Brown added 76 yards on the ground. Atkins had eight catches for 115 yards. - Tulsa/AP College Football

Warner, the son of NFL Hall-of-Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, completed 23 of 48 passes for 196 yards with an interception for the Owls.   08/12/22 - Keylon StokesrSr/2023, Tulsa, 5-09, 208 (DS#96 WR) + More +

As the University of Tulsa prepares for the 2022 season, a big lift to the offense will be the return of wide receiver Keylon Stokes. A grad student now, Stokes was the Golden Hurricane's leading receiver for three straight seasons (2018-20) but missed most of last year due to a torn quad injury suffered in the second game of the season. After a lot of hard work rehabbing from the injury, as well as overcoming a difficult personal issue, Stokes is back making plays in "fall camp" again and excited to get started for real. "It feels amazing, body feeling good, feeling real healthy, just ready to get back out there," Stokes said Wednesday at the Hurricane's media day.

The 5-foot-10, 198-pound native of Manvell, Texas, had topped the squad as a sophomore in 2018 with 41 catches for 575 yards, with two touchdowns, while also adding 15 rushes for 104 yards and two TDs, as well as kickoff return duties. "Obviously we missed him," said Golden Hurricane coach Philip Montgomery. "He's been one of our team captains for the last couple of years. He's one of those guys that we've been in a lot of battles with. You know exactly what you're going to get out of Keylon. "He's a very competitive young man, it doesn't matter what I ask him to do - 'Hey, run with the football, go block a defensive end, catch this ball, go across the middle.' He is a true throwback player in my opinion, because no matter what you ask him to do, he's going to do it at his utmost level, and he's always been successful in that. Also returning punts, returning kicks, he's done it all." - Tulsa World

  08/11/22 - Dominic RichardsonrSr/2026, Tulsa, 6-0, 210 (DS#60 RB) + More +

Dominic Richardson showed up to Oklahoma State football media day on Saturday with a new tattoo of leaves around his neck. It symbolizes the laurel wreaths worn throughout history by kings, emperors and gods of ancient Greek mythology. And maybe this is a bit of a stretch, but perhaps it also represents Richardson's position as the crown prince of Oklahoma State's running back room.

He's set to take the throne as the Cowboys' feature back when the season begins on Sept. 1. "He's thick enough and physical enough to do that," head coach Mike Gundy said of Richardson's potential to be an every-down back. "He is physical. He's mature. He's been around a while, which is going to help him. He's a different type of runner. He's more of a slasher, he's gonna drop his pads and try to run through somebody and then take off and go. "I don't worry about his attitude. I don't worry about his toughness. We just need him to be durable and to give us 18 carries a game." - Daily Oklahoman

  08/03/22 - Isaiah EppsrSr/2023, Tulsa, 6-2, 200 (DS#193 WR) + More +

When the University of Tulsa football team opens falls practice Wednesday morning, plenty of new faces will be on the field. This week, the Golden Hurricane announced 11 new transfers. Three additional players had already joined the team for spring practice, so a total of 14 new members will be on hand at Chapman Stadium. Coach Philip Montgomery is happy to add so many key players, particularly after losing eight others to the transfer portal, including six scholarship players who already had graduated but still had eligibility left.

"I know we've lost a few people, but that being said, I think we've got a lot of key guys back and we've been able to add a lot of new faces to our program," Montgomery said Thursday during his AAC media day appearance. "I think those guys have come into our program and really gelled with our guys, and so I think we're going to have a very competitive fall camp." Out of the 14 newcomers, 10 are on offense, including a total of five new offensive linemen and three wide receivers, with two defensive backs on defense. A few of the transfers have local ties. Receiver Isaiah Epps, a Jenks High School graduate who played four years at the University of Kentucky, graduated and transferred to TU in time to participate in spring ball. - Tulsa World
