  Zach Smith threw a career-high five touchdown passes, Shamari Brooks ran for a career-high 202 yards and Tulsa beat East Carolina 49-24 on Saturday. Brooks, a junior, finished the season with 1,086 yards rushing. The Pirates led for 36 seconds when Jake Verity kicked a 51-yard field goal with 1:42 left in the first quarter. With 66 seconds left in the first, Smith threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Sam Crawford Jr. Smith followed with two more TD passes, one to Keylon Stokes for 29 yards and the other to Keenen Johnson for 4 yards and the Golden Hurricane (4-8, 2-6 American Athletic Conference) led 21-3 at intermission. T.K. Wilkerson's 10-yard scoring run 3½ minutes into the third made it 28-3. Holton Ahlers led East Carolina (4-8, 2-6) with 308 yards passing and three touchdowns. C.J.   Seth Boomer led Tulsa to 17 second-half points as the Golden Hurricane captured a 34-31 victory over the UCF Knights (7-3, 4-2 AAC) Friday night in front of 16,331 fans at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Tulsa overcame an 11-point deficit twice for its 12th comeback victory in the past 5 seasons. Tulsa (3-7, 1-5 AAC) outscored the Knights, 17-3, in the second half as Boomer replaced an injured Zach Smith at quarterback and led Tulsa on scoring drives of 50, 63 and 12 yards for those 17 points.

Boomer completed 6-of-10 passes for 87 yards and one touchdown, and before leaving the game late in the first half Zach Smith had connected on 10-of-14 passes for 127 yards and one TD. The Tulsa run game behind Shamari Brooks, Corey Taylor and TK Wilkerson totaled 139 yard and 2 TDs. The Tulsa defense was bend-but-don't-break in the first half and dominant in the second 30 minutes. The Hurricane held the nation's 2nd-ranked UCF offense to 94 yards less than its season average and also limited the 5th-ranked scoring offense to 15.3 points under its average. In the second half, Tulsa limited the Knights to 171 yards and forced 3 turnovers, 2 of which led to 10 points. - Tulsa Football

  Jacob Rainey kicked a 23-yard game-winning field goal late in the fourth quarter and Tulsa rallied past UCF, knocking off the two-time defending American Athletic Conference champs 34-31 Friday night. The win was Tulsa's first in conference play. The Golden Hurricanes (3-7, 1-5) stopped UCF on downs on the ensuing possession -- a big third-down sack resulting in an incomplete pass by Dillon Gabriel on fourth-and-12. Tulsa ran out the final 87 seconds.

Dillon threw for 290 yards but was picked off twice and sacked six times for a loss of 36 yards. Still, UCF (7-3, 4-2) led by as many as 11 points and was ahead 31-24 heading into the fourth quarter. Tulsa put together a 63-yard drive early in the final period, knotting the score on a Seth Boomer 17-yard TD pass to Sam Crawford Jr. Reggie Robinson II intercepted Gabriel and returned it 23 yards to the 18, setting up Rainey's winning kick. Tulsa was outgained in both passing and rushing yards but scored 10 points off turnovers. - AP College Football
