Kaiya Sheron started at quarterback for No. 13 Kentucky in Saturday night's Southeastern Conference game against South Carolina, replacing injured senior Will Levis. Levis entered Kroger Field with a boot on his left foot and did not participate in pregame warmups. Wildcats coach Mark Stoops earlier this week referred to a finger injury Levis sustained in last week's 22-19 loss at No. 9 Mississippi, but didn't mention a foot injury. Stoops remained mum on Levis' status on Thursday.

Levis was dressed in a warm-up suit with a hoodie pulled over his head as teammates went through final preparations. Sheron, a redshirt freshman, was announced on the video board as the starter for the Wildcats (4-1, 1-1 SEC) just before kickoff. Levis has been mentioned as a possible first-round NFL draft choice after breaking out for 2,827 yards passing and 24 touchdowns last season. He has started all 18 games for Kentucky since transferring from Penn State, and this season has completed 68% of his passes for 1,405 yards and 12 touchdowns with just four interceptions. Levis completed 18 of 24 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns last week at Ole Miss, but fumbled twice inside the 20 late in the 22-19 loss. - AP College Football

Alabama will be down a linebacker after an injury in the win over Arkansas. Junior Demouy Kennedy's injury is season ending, Nick Saban said Wednesday morning without specifying the diagnosis. Kennedy got hurt covering a punt in the fourth quarter of the 49-26 win over the Razorbacks. He went down clutching his knee and was walked gingerly straight to the locker room. A Theodore, Alabama product, Kennedy had seen action in all three phases for the Crimson Tide. Along with his special teams and defensive work, Kennedy was called into action as an emergency running back when a run of knee injuries decimated the depth chart last fall. He carried the ball seven times for 16 yards last November in a win over New Mexico State. Alabama coaches selected him as a special teams player of the week four times last year when he finished with seven total tackles. - Birmingham News

Arkansas has been playing without defensive back Myles Slusher, who has not seen the field since he suffered an apparent upper-body injury during the first quarter of the season opener. Slusher is expected to return soon. Slusher is a difference maker who should improve the back end upon his return to the nickel back position. That might allow the Razorbacks to reshuffle the rest of the secondary as they look to plug the massive hole left by safety Jalen Catalon's season-ending injury in Week 1. - Northwest Arkansas Times
