  10/15/22 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers threw for three touchdowns, linebacker Jaylan Ford produced two turnovers, and No. 22 Texas rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Iowa State 24-21 on Saturday. Ewers' third touchdown, a 3-yard pass to Xavier Worthy, put Texas up for good with 4:43 remaining. Ford ended Iowa State's chance to re-take the lead, recovering a fumble by Cyclones quarterback Hunter Dekkers deep in Texas territory with 2:28 to play. Moments earlier, it looked like Iowa State might move back in front, but spectacular receiver Xavier Hutchinson dropped a pass at the Longhorns 9-yard line.

Bijan Robinson rushed for 135 yards, his fifth straight game exceeding 100 for Texas (5-2, 3-1 Big 12). The Longhorns snapped snapped a three-game losing streak against the Iowa State. The Cyclones (3-4, 0-4) have lost four straight. Iowa State, whose offense has struggled to score this season, had an opportunity to go up 14-0 six minutes into the second quarter. But Dekkers' pass was intercepted in the end zone by Ford. The Longhorns then moved 80 yards to tie the game on a 15-yard pass from Ewers to Worthy. Less than six minutes later, Ewers then connected with Jordan Whittington for a 5-yard touchdown. Texas added a field goal in the third quarter but could not put Iowa State away. First, Dekkers found sophomore Jaylin Noel over the middle for a 54-yard touchdown, his second of the game. The Cyclones took their last lead, 21-17, on Dekkers' 11-yard run up the middle with 10:58 remaining. - Texas/AP College Football

  10/13/22 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers made his return this past weekend after leaving the Alabama game with an injury. Ewers tore apart Oklahoma’s reeling defense, delivering a 49-0 win in the Red River Rivalry and finishing with four touchdowns while completing 67% of his passes for 289 yards. He also had a busy few days in the NIL space. Over the course of eight days, he announced five partnerships. First was a seven-figure NFT deal with Metabillia. Then he inked a partnership with Lucchese Bootmaker, gifting travel bags to his offensive line. And on Monday was a Sonic social media ad with his wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Now toting a $1.2 million On3 NIL Valuation, Ewers has Texas positioned for a late-season run. And all this could just be setting the table for a major 2023 campaign. - On3.com

  10/10/22 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

The Texas Longhorns overwhelmed rival Oklahoma by a historic margin Saturday, rolling to their largest win in the Red River Showdown's 118-year history with a 49-0 win at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Longhorns' first shutout against the Sooners since 1965 that also handed Oklahoma its first shutout since 1998 earned Texas (4-2) the Cheez-It Bowl National Team of the Week honor for games of the weekend of Oct. 8, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America. It was the third straight honor for a Big 12 team following K-State and TCU the past two weeks.

The Longhorns had 585 total yards - 296 of it on the ground - while their defense held the Sooners to just 195 toal yards with two fourth-down stops, the first early in the game that set the tone in front of the sellout crowd of 92,100. The shutout was Texas' first against Oklahoma since a 19-0 win in 1965 and snapped a four-year losing streak in the series. This is the fourth time for Texas to earn this honor from the FWAA and its first since 2018. It also earned the weekly award in 2015 and 2013 - all four awards have come after defeating Oklahoma. All Division I FBS and FCS schools are eligible to be selected. - Big 12 Football

  10/08/22 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in his return to the Texas lineup and the Longhorns handed Oklahoma its most-lopsided shutout loss ever, 49-0 on Saturday in the first meeting between the Red River rivals since 1998 with neither ranked. Bijan Robinson ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns for the Longhorns (4-2, 2-1 Big 12), who snapped a four-game losing streak in the series that dates to 1900 - a skid that began with the 2018 Big 12 championship game in the only of their 118 meetings outside the regular season. Tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders had two TD catches. While Ewers was back after missing three games, the Sooners (3-3, 0-3) were without starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who warmed up but didn't play a week after getting hit in the head and knocked out of the TCU game because of a concussion. Pitt transfer Davis Beville got the start, but Oklahoma opted for numerous wildcat plays without the quarterback and finished with only 39 yards passing and 195 overall.

The 92,100-seat Cotton Bowl Stadium was full for the start of the annual meeting at the State Fair of Texas, with fans in crimson and burnt orange split at the 50-yard line as usual. But long before this game was over, the Sooners side was emptying while Texas fans stayed to relish every moment. After a 3-0 start with new coach Brent Venables, Oklahoma has its first three-game losing streak since 1998. The Sooners lost five in a row that season, including an 0-4 start in Big 12 play before a 29-0 loss to Texas A&M that was their last shutout until Saturday. Their largest shutout loss had been 47-0 to Oklahoma State in 1945. Ewers completed 14 of his first 16 passes and finished 21 of 31 in his first action since a collarbone injury he sustained in the first quarter against top-ranked Alabama four weeks ago. The strong-armed freshman from nearby Southlake, who spent last season at Ohio State, was 9 of 12 for 134 yards against the Crimson Tide before getting hurt. Texas had two 90-yard scoring drives in the first quarter, capped by Robinson's 2-yard run and Xavier Worthy's 10-yard catch. In between those touchdowns, Oklahoma converted a fake field goal, only to get stopped on fourth-and-2 inside the 10 four plays later. - Texas/AP College Football

  10/01/22 - Xavier WorthyJr/2024, Texas, 5-11, 165 (DS#6 WR) + More +

Hudson Card passed for three touchdowns, including two to Xavier Worthy, to lead Texas to a 38-20 win over West Virginia on Saturday night. Card, who has started three straight games but may be replaced next week week if freshman Quinn Ewers returns from a clavicle injury, finished with 303 yards passing. His 15-yard scoring pass to Worthy just before he took a hard shot to his midsection opened the scoring. Those two connected again early in third quarter when a leaping West Virginia defender let a deep pass slip through his hands and tipped it to Worthy as the Longhorns receiver was falling down.

Worthy also threw a touchdown pass to Ja'Tavion Sanders on a trick play in the second quarter. Worthy finished with 119 yards receiving. Texas (3-2, 1-1) avoided its first 0-2 start in the Big 12 since 2016 heading into next week's rivalry game with Oklahoma. JT Daniels passed for 253 yards for West Virginia (2-3, 0-2). The Mountaineers got a scare in the third quarter when freshman running back CJ Donaldson was carted off on a stretcher after taking a blow to the head. His helmet and shoulder pads were removed, but he appeared to give a "thumbs up" signal with his right hand as he was taken off the field. - Texas/AP College Football

Bijan Robinson ran for 183 yards and three touchdowns, Jahdae Barron returned an interception 44 yards for a score in the third quarter and No. 21 Texas beat UTSA 41-20 on Saturday night. Texas trailed 17-7 in the second quarter then rallied to tie it by halftime. Robinson's 78-yard touchdown run gave Texas the lead, and Barron's interception return put the Longhorns up by 11 to snuff the Roadrunners' bid for an upset that would have been the biggest win in the history of a rising program that has only been playing football since 2011.

Hudson Card got the start at quarterback for Texas (2-1) in place of the injured Quinn Ewers. Card had his own struggles with an ankle sprain during the week and wasn't announced as the starter until game time. He still finished with 161 yards passing and even scampered for a 32-yard run in the fourth quarter. Texas jumped into the national rankings on the strength of its close loss a week earlier to then-No. 1 Alabama, but found itself quickly down by 10 as UTSA (1-2) followed a surprise onside kick with a trick play touchdown pass to Zakhari Franklin. Texas eventually wore down the Roadrunners, last season's C-USA champions behind a rushing attack that rolled up 298 yards. Robinson put the game out of reach with a 41-yard touchdown run with 9:36 left that made it 38-20. - Texas/AP College Football

  09/03/22 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns in his debut at quarterback for Texas and the Longhorns rolled over Louisiana-Monroe 52-10 Saturday night in the season-opener for both programs. The win against an overmatched opponent was still a much-needed one for second-year coach Steve Sarkisian after the Longhorns went 5-7 in 2021. Texas next week hosts No. 1 Alabama, where Sarkisian was offensive coordinator when the Crimson Tide won the national championship in 2020. Ewers was one of the top recruits in the country out of high school near Dallas but skipped his senior season and enrolled at Ohio State. He was buried on the Buckeyes' depth chart and took just two snaps last season before transferring. He won the starting job over Hudson Card, who was the Texas starter to open the 2021 season.

Ewers said he was surprisingly calm in his first college start. "I didn't have any butterflies going into today. A little bit on the first play, but not even as much as I did in high school," Ewers said. "I liked it. I enjoyed the game." Ewers had a solid night despite some struggles to hit deep throws and his biggest plays came on catch-and-run hookups his receivers turned into long gains. His favorite target on the night was tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders, who caught six passes for 85 yards and a first-quarter touchdown. Bijan Robinson finished with 111 total yards on 13 touches, and two third-quarter touchdowns on a 16-yard catch and a 9-yard run. The third-year running back has a touchdown in 12 of his last 13 games. "It's a lot of fun," Ewers said of the Texas offensive and its multiple playmakers. "Especially when things are clicking on all levels." - Texas/AP College Football
