  Purdue added more depth to the defensive line Monday when Penn State transfer Cole Brevard committed to the Boilermakers. Brevard was with the Nittany Lions' program for two seasons, redshirting in 2020 and appearing in one game in 2021. Brevard was a three-year letterman and two-time team captain at Carmel. Brevard picked Penn State over offers from Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State, among others. He entered the transfer portal in late April.

Although the Boilermakers lost end George Karlaftis to the NFL Draft, a solid group of frontline players, including Branson Deen and Lawrence Johnson at the tackle positions, return. Damarjhe Lewis and Prince Boyd gained experience last season that should carry over into next season. "I think we can be deeper than we were last year," defensive line coach Mark Hagen said during spring practice. The 6-foot-3, 317-pound Brevard adds to the options on the defensive line. - Journal and Courier

  Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Joshua Moore will not enroll at SMU, as previously expected, according to Dallas Morning News reporter Joseph Hoyt. "Been hinting at it in some previous stories, but multiple sources indicate former Texas WR Joshua Moore is not expected to come to SMU," Hoyt tweeted. "Helps explain why SMU added two transfer WRs this week in former Texas WR Kelvontay Dixon and former Miss. State WR Teddy Knox."

The Yoakum, Texas, native originally committed to Texas Tech, then changed his mind and announced he would play for new Mustangs head coach Rhett Lashlee. Moore came into the 2021 season as the leading returning receiver for Texas and was waiting to explode under new head coach Steve Sarkisian. He was able to haul in 24 catches for 265 receiving yards and three touchdown catches on the year. Moore was a top 100 recruit coming out of high school, being ranked the No. 96 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 16 player at the wide receiver position and No. 9 within the state of Texas. - Dallas Morning News

  Poised for a 2022 standout season: Quarterback will drive the narrative for the Longhorns, but junior running back Bijan Robinson will drive the offense. He was one of the top backs in the country in 2021 before his season was cut short by a dislocated elbow in a loss to Kansas. Robinson had 1,422 yards from scrimmage and 16 TDs last season and will likely be mentioned in some early Heisman Trophy conversations.   Ohio State football already had a shortage of experienced defensive backs, and it has one fewer after redshirt freshman Ryan Watts entered the transfer portal on Friday. Bucknuts first reported the departure, which is OSU's fourth outgoing transfer since the end of the regular season. For Watts, the big, talented defensive back faced an uncertain role heading into 2022. "I will always continue to push and challenge myself to achieve my goals, even if that means leaving a good thing," Watts wrote in a Twitter post announcing his decision. The 6-3, 205-pound Watts, who redshirted in 2020, played 49 snaps in a season-opening victory over Minnesota.   Former five-star recruit Quinn Ewers, who skipped his senior year of high school to enroll at Ohio State in the hopes of cashing in on endorsement deals, has committed to transfer to Texas. A person familiar with Ewers' decision told The Associated Press on Sunday the quarterback had informed Texas coaches he would return to his home state and play for the school he originally committed to before his junior year at Southlake Carroll High School, outside Dallas. The person spoke on condition on anonymity because NCAA rules prohibited Texas from immediately announcing Ewers' decision. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian tweeted his "All Gas, No Brakes" slogan 10 minutes before Ewers' post. The Longhorns went 5-7 this season, their first under Sarkisian. Ewers announced Dec. 3 he was entering the transfer portal. Yahoo! Sports first reported Ewers had decided to transfer to Texas. - AP College Football

  2021 BIG 12 CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Xavier Worthy, Texas, WR,...Worthy, the only freshman among the conference's first- and second-team selections, had a record-breaking year for the Longhorns, establishing top UT freshman single-season marks for receptions (62), receiving yards (981) and receiving touchdowns (12). The Fresno, Calif. native is Texas' first-ever freshman wide receiver to earn first-team All-Big 12 honors. He leads the Big 12 in receiving yards, receiving yards per game (81.1) and receiving touchdowns, ranks second in receptions, fourth in receptions per game (5.2), fifth in total touchdowns (12) and eighth in yards per reception (15.82).   2021 ACC DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR (COACHES/MEDIA): Andrew Mukuba, S, Clemson, 28 votes,...Clemson's Mukuba appeared in all 12 regular-season games for the Tigers this season, including nine starts, while playing 523 snaps. A native of Zimbabwe who now calls Austin, Texas, home, Mukuba became the first true freshman defensive back to start a season opener for Clemson (according to records dating back to 1973) when he took the field versus then-No. 5 Georgia on Sept. 4. Mukuba made eight tackles and broke up a pass versus the Bulldogs and went on to finish the regular season with 52 tackles while breaking up nine passes.   Junior Roschon Johnson ran for a career-best 179 yards, Cameron Dicker kicked three field goals, and Texas summoned some uncommonly strong defense to beat Kansas State 22-17 Friday afternoon. Texas (5-7, 3-6 Big 12) ended the regular season by snapping a six-game losing streak, its longest since 1956. Johnson, who arrived at Texas as a quarterback but quickly converted to running back, started in place of Bijan Robinson, who rushed for 1,127 yards this season but missed the last two games with a dislocated elbow. Johnson carried 31 times. He ran for a 9-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Texas which has performed poorly defending the run this season, stopped star running back Deuce Vaughn on third and one at the Longhorn 17 and backup quarterback Will Howard on fourth down with 4:03 remaining. Kansas State (7-5, 4-5) played without starting quarterback Skylar Thompson, who suffered an ankle injury last week against Baylor. Howard, his replacement, ran for a 71-yard touchdown, untouched by a defender, in the second quarter. But Howard completed just nine of 13 passes for 65 yards. - Texas/AP College Football

  Star Texas running back Bijan Robinson will miss the rest of the season after dislocating his elbow in the Longhorns' loss to Kansas, coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday. Robinson's 1,127 yards rushing this season rank third in the Big 12 and made him the first Texas running back to hit the 1,000-yard mark since 2016. He also had 11 rushing touchdowns, and five more receiving. Robinson was injured in the third quarter of the 57-56 overtime loss that sent Texas to its fifth consecutive defeat, the program's longest skid since 1956. Texas (4-6, 2-5 Big 12) plays Saturday at West Virginia and at home Nov. 27 against Kansas State, and must win both to be eligible for a bowl game.   OCT 4 BIG 12 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bijan Robinson, Texas, RB, So.,...Robinson led Texas to a 32-27 victory at TCU, which was the Longhorns' first win in Fort Worth since 2013. He established career highs with 35 carries and 216 yards (6.2 ypc), scoring two touchdowns and catching two passes for 22 yards. In doing so, the sophomore RB became the first Longhorn to rush for over 200 yards in a game since D'Onta Foreman in 2016. Over his last nine games, Robinson has totaled 1,174 yards on 152 carries (7.72 ypc) with 11 touchdowns, while hauling in 18 receptions for 296 yards (16.44 ypc) and scoring four touchdowns. His season totals include 1,470 yards on 170 plays for 8.64 yards per play and 15 touchdowns. - Big 12 football

The senior went 4-of-4 on field goal attempts to establish a single-game career-high in makes, just one shy of the UT single-game record. He was also 2-for-2 on PATs and is now third all-time in career scoring by a kicker at Texas with 338 points, only one point behind Phil Dawson (1994-97) for second and just 20 shy of the all-time record of 358 held by Dusty Mangum (2001-04).   Bijan Robinson ran six consecutive times to open the final game-cinching drive for Texas, including a first down on a hard third-down run after TCU had called its last timeout. He then added 13 more yards before Casey Thompson got to kneel down on the last three snaps. Robinson ran for a career-high 216 yards on 35 carries with two go-ahead touchdowns and those key late first downs in a 32-27 win Saturday, the first Big 12 road game for the Longhorns since accepting an invitation to join the Southeastern Conference. "I just knew I had to get that first down, for the whole team to keep going forward and end the game," Robinson said. "No. 5 kind of epitomized our football team, the grit. He was exhausted," coach Steve Sarkisian said. "Thirty-five carries later, the last one was the most important one to get one more first down to seal the win...He's earned our trust." Thompson improved to 3-0 as the starting quarterback, even without the Longhorns finding the end zone at the same blistering pace as in his first two starts.

He finished 12-of-22 passing for 142 yards with a touchdown and an interception. TCU (2-2, 0-1) lost its second consecutive home game and had three turnovers, matching its total for the first three games. The Longhorns converted those into only three field goals by Cameron Dicker. Robinson was stopped short on a fourth-and-goal from the 1 with 9 1/2 minutes left. The Horned Frogs then went 99 yards in 13 plays for Kendre Miller's 2-yard TD with 4:23 left, but never got the ball back. - Texas/AP College Football

His three touchdown catches are a UT freshman single-game record and gave him four for the season, which is already third-most by a rookie in program annals. His 100-yard receiving game is the 17th in school history by the 13th different freshman.
