  09/01/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers has reportedly agreed to a deal worth more than $1 million with a company that arranges autograph signings. Darren Rovell of The Action Network said Ewers' representatives negotiated the arrangement with GT Sports Marketing. The deal was later confirmed by ESPN's Tom VanHaaren, who more specifically put the numbers at three years and $1.4 million. Ewers announced earlier this month that he was skipping his senior season of high school in order to enroll early at OSU. At the time, Ewers said it was "not just a financial decision," and he joined the Buckeyes a little over a week after the team started fall camp.

The decision by the 6-2, 200-pound Southlake, Texas, native was unusual, but not unprecedented. Due at least in part to his late start, when head coach Ryan Day discussed the backup quarterback position this week, he mentioned only Jack Miller and Kyle McCord as the candidates to take snaps after starter C.J. Stroud for the season opener Thursday against Minnesota. - The Columbus Dispatch

  08/22/21 - Jermayne LolerSr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 315 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Arizona State's season opener is three weeks away but the Sun Devils have already suffered a major setback with senior defensive tackle Jermayne Lole sidelined with a triceps injury that will require surgery and is likely season ending. After today's practice, ASU coach Herm Edwards confirmed the injury which occurred during Monday's practice. Lole has been at practice as a spectator the last two days with his right arm in a sling. "It doesn't look good," the coach said. The 6-foot-2, 305-pounder would have been a four-year starter, having earned a spot in 2018 as a true freshman. He was an All-Pac 12 honorable mention last season with 24 total tackles including five for a loss and 1.5 sacks and the four-game 2020 season. In his career, Lole had registered 147 tackles in 32 games. Much was expected of Lole this season. He was a first-team All-preseason Pac-12 pick by the media. - Arizona Republic

  08/22/21 - Derek KerstetterrSr/2022, Texas, 6-5, 305 (DS#7 C) + More +

Derek Kerstetter could have left and thrown his hat into the NFL draft ring earlier this year, but there was work that needed to be done. Besides, he had zero interest in leaving college with a final image of him being carted off the field. So Texas' senior center is back for a fifth season after a gruesome ankle injury at Kansas State cut his 2020 season short in Week 9. Eight months of resolve-testing rehabilitation have fueled Kerstetter's desire to finish out his college career, and he's eager to lead this offensive line into the latest new era of Longhorns football.

Tough people overcome, and Kerstetter, a hard-nosed sort who doesn't back down from a fight, didn't take long to make the obvious decision, even if he will be playing in front of an inexperienced quarterback for his final year. "They've been hectic," Kerstetter said of the weeks of recovery followed by the months of rehab. "It's been just a pleasure to be able to come out here to be with my teammates again. What I went through was a blessing because it taught me so many different things, but it was also one of the hardest things I've ever faced in my life." - Austin American Statesman

  08/22/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers has finally touched down in Columbus and joined the Ohio State football program. A university spokesperson confirmed that the five-star quarterback is enrolled in classes and will continue wearing the No. 3 he wore at Southlake Carroll High School in Texas. In two seasons as the Dragons' starter, he threw for 6,445 yards and 73 touchdowns while leading them to last season's 6A Division I Texas State Championship game. Carroll lost to Westlake High School, led by Clemson commit Cade Klubnik. Ewers was the top player in the 2022 recruiting class with a perfect star rating but elected to reclassify to cash in on Name, Image and Likeness deals. He still kept that perfect rating after joining the second-ranked 2021 class giving the group four of the top 10 players and seven players rated as five stars. His addition also made Ohio State the first program to sign two five-star quarterbacks in the same cycle. Ewers is joining a quarterback room in the midst of a battle for the starting job between Kyle McCord, Jack Miller and C.J. Stroud. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  08/18/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers, the top quarterback prospect in 2022 who was going to show up at OSU next spring, reclassified and announced he would be enrolling at OSU for this fall instead. The reason was so he could take advantage of name, image and likeness opportunities to make what his family calculated could be as much as a million dollars. Ewers already has released his first endorsement, Holy Beverages, even before showing up in Columbus. Enrolling early gives him a fast start on learning the Buckeyes' offense. Plus, he gets to bank all the endorsement money he wouldn't have made staying in high school. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

He made a splash with seven catches for 105 yards and a touchdown in Georgia's spring game. With the Bulldogs facing questions at receiver, he could get a real shot early because some ahead of him on the depth chart are nursing injuries. LSU transfer Arik Gilbert, a former tight end, is not currently with the team. - AP College Football

  08/15/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Top quarterback prospect Quinn Ewers reclassified to the 2021 class and announced he will join Ohio State football a year early expressly to capitalize on name, image and likeness revenue opportunities. Turns out he did not even officially need to the join the Buckeyes before cashing in. Ewers on Monday released his first endorsement for Holy Beverages on his Twitter page. In the ad, Ewers takes a shotgun snap of a can of the beverage and says he and his family have been drinking Holy Kombucha for a long time. "I may be leaving soon to take it to the next level but I made sure to take the best Texas drink company with me," Ewers wrote in his Twitter post. Ewers said he was signing with Holy Beverages and Hope Squad, which is described as a "school-based peer-to-peer suicide prevention program." - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  08/14/21 - Jahleel BillingsleySr/2023, Texas, 6-4, 223 (DS#31 TE) + More +

A day after Alabama football coach Nick Saban said he hoped tight end Jahleel Billingsley would "be back out there with us in a few days," Billinglsey practiced on Monday. During the media viewing period, Billinglsey worked with the tight ends in the far left corner. Saban, on Sunday, didn't specify why Billingsley wasn't practicing. He brought it up when asked how Billingsley might fit what they want to do on offense and how he wants to see Billingsley grow. "I think that has a lot to do with his level of commitment that I talked about before, in terms of doing the right things, developing as a player," Saban said. "He does have a lot of ability. He can be a positive contributor on the team. But he's also got to buy into the principles and values of the team and be a good teammate. Do the things that everyone else in the organization does so that he has the respect of his teammates. We're certainly trying to help him do that." - Montgomery Advertiser

  08/12/21 - Jahleel BillingsleySr/2023, Texas, 6-4, 223 (DS#31 TE) + More +

Alabama coach Nick Saban revealed Sunday that junior tight end Jahleel Billingsley is not currently practicing for a reason he did not disclose. Saban's first news conference of fall camp, which came after practices Friday and Saturday, ended with a general question about Billingsley's development in which Saban offered some detail about Billingsley's situation. "I think [his growth] has a lot to do with his level of commitment that I talked about before, in terms of doing the right things, developing as a player," Saban responded. "He does have a lot of ability. He can be a positive contributor on the team. "But he's also got to buy into the principles and values of the team and be a good teammate. Do the things that everyone else in the organization does so that he has the respect of his teammates. "We're certainly trying to help him do that and hopefully he'll be back out there with us in a few days. We'll see how that all develops." Saban did not include Billingsley in his injury update at the beginning of his news conference. - Birmingham News

  08/09/21 - Jermayne LolerSr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 315 (DS#999 DT) + More +

One player expecting to have a prominent role on the defense is senior 3-technique tackle Jermayne Lole. The 6-foot-2, 305-pounder has been a starter since arriving as a freshman in 2018 and he is being lauded as an NFL draft prospect. But Lole is looking to make up for some lost time after missing all of spring practice after the unexpected deaths of his father and an older brother, both from COVID-19.

Both were staunch supporters of Jermayne's and line coach Robert Rodriguez said he had already talked to them about Jermayne coming back for his senior year to increase his draft stock. "They made that decision as a family, and called me and told me 'Coach, we decided we want one more year with you and (defensive coordinator) Antonio Pierce, so we were a part of that decision and I'm grateful to his father, his brother, his mother and all of them that they believed in me, and (head coach) Herm (Edwards) and (special adviser to the head coach) Marvin (Lewis), all of us to do right by him. So I told him that, that it means something to me personally." - Arizona Republic

  08/06/21 - Ben DavisrSr/2022, Texas, 6-4, 237 (DS#50 OLB) + More +

The Longhorns have added that big-game experience in the form of three transfer linebackers. Alabama's Ben Davis won two national championships with the Crimson Tide. Ray Thornton earned a championship ring at LSU. Ovie Oghoufo played on last year's Notre Dame team that made the College Football Playoff semifinals. "They come from places that have won championships," Coburn, in his fourth season, said of the newcomers. "All they did was bring that and brought it to Texas and showed us ways of how to be a champion."

After Steve Sarkisian's hire in January, Texas added only four high school prospects to its 2021 recruiting class on national signing day in February. He instead used the transfer portal to solidify the depth chart. Thornton transferred in January. Later that month, Oghoufo announced that he'd join the Longhorns as a grad transfer. Davis transferred in April. None of the three were stars at their previous schools. Thornton recorded five tackles last season. Davis totaled three. Oghoufo had 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks over his last two years with the Fighting Irish. - Austin American Statesman

  08/04/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Ohio State football has found a fourth quarterback for its 2021 roster in Quinn Ewers, who has elected to arrive six months early. The five-star recruit from the Class of 2022 was supposed to be preparing for his senior season at Southlake Carroll High School in Texas, but will instead enroll a year early. Ewers is the nation's top player in the class and the highest-rated player Ohio State has ever signed, with a perfect star rating. He's long been viewed as the best high school quarterback prospect since Trevor Lawrence, with expectations of one day being the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. In two years as the Dragons' starting quarterback, he threw for 6,445 yards and 73 touchdowns while leading them to last season's 6A Division I Texas State Championship game, where Carroll lost to Westlake High School led by Clemson commit Cade Klubnik.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 206 pounds, Ewers has the ideal size for a quarterback while having a frame that could still put on weight working with OSU strength coach Mickey Marotti. Ewers has all the tools and can make all the throws. That includes 70-yard passes down the field, making it look easy in the process. That's what stands out about him. Everything he does looks easy and often like he's not trying. His talent level and potential ceiling are why he walked into the Elite 11 competition in July as the favorite to win MVP. But it's also why it was nearly impossible for him to live up to that. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

People who say money drove Quinn Ewers' decision to join Ohio State football one year ahead of schedule are wrong. It is not about money - it's about wealth. There is a difference, and it is one the Ewers family already recognizes. "We don't need the money," Ewers told Yahoo's Pete Thamel last week. "It's just the principle of it." Ewers is the first major prospect whose path to college was influenced by name, image and likeness income. According to Thamel's reporting - informed by conversations with the family - Ewers could earn around a million dollars in the coming year.

That isn't a few dollars here or there to play video games with fans, or for a quick Twitter post shouting out some snack delivery service. Ewers' reported figure would mean real endorsement opportunities. That kind of income may only be accessible if you are the No. 1 college football prospect in the country, with a previously perfect recruiting ranking, and you play in the most football-mad state in the nation. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  08/02/21 - Quinn EwersrJr/2025, Texas, 6-2, 214 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Quinn Ewers, considered the top quarterback prospect in the class of 2022, said he is skipping his senior year of high school in Texas and plans to enroll at Ohio State for the upcoming semester. In a Twitter post, Ewers explained he would soon be completing the course necessary to graduate from Southlake Carroll High School outside Dallas. The five-star recruit said his decision was influenced by Texas rules which prohibit high school athletes from earning money from endorsement and sponsorship deals. Last month, the NCAA lifted its long-time ban on athletes being compensated for their names, images and likenesses.

Ewers said his preference would be to “complete my senior season at Southlake Carroll along with teammates and friends I've taken the field alongside the past three years." "However, following conversations with my family and those I know have my best interests in mind, I've decided it's time for me to enroll at Ohio State and begin my career as a Buckeye," he wrote. Ewers' parents told Yahoo! Sports that their son has several potential deals lined up, including one that could land him equity in a company that makes kombucha, but a Texas law aimed at giving college athletes NIL rights prevents high school athletes from doing so. - AP College Football

Bijan Robinson is expected to be one of the top college football players nationally in 2021, so it's no surprise the Texas Longhorns star and Tucson native was named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list Wednesday morning. Robinson, a 6-foot, 215-pound sophomore, was also named to the Maxwell Award watch list, which is given to the best player in college football.
