  07/08/22 - DT Keondre CoburnrSr/2023, Texas

Big 12 reporters covering the league believe Texas will have a bounce-back season. But they're not picking the Longhorns to steamroll the competition, either. UT was picked to finish fourth in the preseason Big 12 media poll announced Thursday by the league office. A fourth-place finish would equate to a 9-3 or 8-4 type of season. That would represent a solid move in the right direction after coach Steve Sarkisian's first campaign finished 5-7. Long-term recruiting is also on the upswing with quarterback Arch Manning's commitment.

The class of 2023 is now projected to be easily a top-five haul. The Longhorns' arrow is pointed up. But Sarkisian must win in the here and now. In the writers' preseason poll, Baylor collected 17 first-place votes while Oklahoma was second with 12 first-place votes. Oklahoma State was third, and Texas was fourth. Two writers picked the Horns to win the Big 12 while nine thought the Cowboys could win it all. - Austin American Statesman
