SEPT 30 LONE STAR OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zimari Manning, Tarleton State, SR, Kinesiology, WR, Long Beach, Calif., LB Wilson HS,...Manning was unstoppable for the #4 Tarleton Texans as the senior wide receiver set a new school record with 257 receiving yards on seven catches with three touchdowns in Tarleton's 49-7 rout of UT Permian Basin Saturday night. Manning sparked the offense with a mammoth first quarter as he hauled in three passes - all touchdowns - for 199 yards in the opening quarter of the game. He broke Tarleton's record for receiving yards in a game, previously held since 1994 by Colin Yocom and became the first Texan since 2010 with over 200 yards in a game. Manning broke off a 33-yard catch-and-run on the third play of the game and then struck for touchdown runs of 77 and 74 yards later in the quarter. - Lone Star Conference Football

SEPT 23 LONE STAR DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: B.J. Jefferson, Tarleton State, SR, Sociology, DE, Acres Home, Texas, Eisenhower HS,...Jefferson led the Texans defense for the second straight week as the senior boasted 12 tackles, including 2.0 for a loss. Jefferson's 12 tackles led the team in a 58-28 rout of West Texas A&M, most of which came in a 51-0 first-half shutout. With Jefferson leading the way, WT compiled only 117 yards of total offense, including just 12 yards of offense at the half and only one positive yard after one quarter. - Lone Star Conference Football

SEPT 9 LONE STAR OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Daniel McCants, Tarleton State, SR, Kinesiology, RB, Killeen, Texas, Killeen HS,...In his debut as the lead running back in the Tarleton offense, McCants did not disappoint. The senior from Killeen took his first carry of the season 48 yards for a touchdown to spark a record-setting night for the Texan offense in a 37-26 road win at FCS Stephen F. Austin Saturday night.

McCants followed up his big run with an even bigger one later in the quarter as he broke free for a 99-yard touchdown run for his second score of the night. For the game, McCants totaled 179 yards on 11 carries, averaging 16.3 yards per trip. With his efforts on the ground, Tarleton set a new school record with 667 total yards - topping the previous record of 665 yards on Nov. 8, 2014 against Texas A&M-Commerce. McCants' 99-yard touchdown run also set a new Tarleton record for longest run, which broke Collin Strahan's five-year record of 89 yards. Gaej Walker ran for a touchdown, Steven Duncan passed for another and the Western Kentucky defense made a big goal-line stand as the Hilltoppers defeated Florida International 20-14 in a Conference USA opener on Saturday. Late in the fourth quarter with WKU leading 20-14, FIU had 2nd-and-goal from the 2-yard line. WKU defensive back Dionte Ruffin hit Panthers quarterback Kaylan Wiggins in the backfield, forcing a fumble. Wiggins recovered the ball at the 16 but was attended to on the field after the play and was removed from the game. James Morgan, who had started the game, then threw incomplete on third and fourth downs. Western Kentucky took over and was able to run out the clock after gaining one first down.

Duncan threw 8 yards to Jahcour Pearson for a touchdown to open the scoring. FIU tied it later in the first quarter when Richard Dames scored on an 80-yard return after interception of a Duncan pass. Walker, who gained 100 yards on 27 carries, ran 2 yards for a touchdown and WKU led 14-7 at halftime. The Hilltoppers allowed just 14 first downs, 217 yards and one offensive touchdown, a 15-yard run by Napoleon Maxwell in the third quarter that made the score 17-14 in favor of Western Kentucky. Cory Munson added his second field goal of the game, a 44-yarder early in the fourth quarter. Duncan completed 19 of 33 passes for 241 yards with the one touchdown and two interceptions. Tarleton was selected to repeat as the Lone Star Conference football champions according to the 2019 LSC preseason poll announced Monday. The league's preseason poll reflects the opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region. TSU earned first place votes on 19 of the 25 ballots for 217 total points.

The Texans, who went undefeated in the regular season to win the LSC title before falling in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals, were 12-1 overall and 8-0 in league play in 2018. Midwestern State received two first-place nods to finish second with 185 points following an 8-2 season last year. Texas A&M-Commerce ranked third with 169 points and one top vote in front of Eastern New Mexico (130) and Angelo State (122 with a pair of first-place nods). West Texas A&M (119), Texas A&M-Kingsville (88), UT Permian Basin (67 with one first-place vote) and Western New Mexico (28) rounded out the poll. - Lone Star Conference Football

2019 PRESEASON ALL-SWAC FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES/SIDS): WR DeJuan Miller, Arkansas-Pine Bluff,...Miller (6-2, 184; So; Belle Glade, Fla./ Glades Central / Health & Wellness major) caught 56 passes for 801 yards and six touchdowns in earning SWAC Freshman of the Year honors. Miller had four 100-yard receiving games over the last five weeks of the season, including three straight against Miss. Valley St. (7-112-2), Grambling (10-142-2), and Alabama A&M (6-106).
