  11/16/19 - *Andre CiscoJr/2021, Syracuse, 6-0, 216 (DS#4 FS) + More +

Syracuse's quarterback stayed upright and its running backs ran free. The Orange's new-look defense kept its opponent out of the end zone. They only needed one win to avoid being 0-for-the-ACC - and did they ever get it. Syracuse routed Duke 49-6 on Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak, with Tommy DeVito throwing for two touchdowns and running for another. "It's just one game - that's all it is, one football game - but how important a football game it was to us was extreme based on things that have gone on the past two weeks," coach Dino Babers said.

Andre Cisco returned an interception 48 yards for a TD to help the Orange (4-6, 1-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) earn their first win against a power-conference team. Syracuse, a 10-point underdog, pulled away by turning three second-half takeaways into touchdowns and outscored Duke 35-0 after halftime. "I'm really excited that they have the experience of winning again," Babers said. Moe Neal rushed for 115 yards and a 2-yard score, Jarveon Howard also finished with 115 yards rushing with a 28-yard TD and the Orange had a season-best 286 yards on the ground. Syracuse had only one 100-yard rusher in its first nine games, with Neal gaining 123 in the victory over Western Michigan on Sept. 21. - Syracuse/AP College Football

  11/05/19 - Christopher BleichrSr/2024, Syracuse, 6-6, 312 (DS#67 OG) + More +

Florida guard Chris Bleich, who started eight of the team's first nine games this season, has decided to transfer. Bleich entered the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday, three days after getting benched in a 24-17 loss to Georgia. Gators offensive line coach John Hevesy confirmed the redshirt freshman's exit following practice, saying "we support Chris and everything he's doing." Bleich emerged from fall camp as Florida's youngest starting offensive lineman. The 6-foot-6, 330-pounder showed his inexperience weekly, becoming a popular subject of fan criticism. He started splitting time with Richard Gouraige, who seemingly supplanted Bleich against the Bulldogs. The 10th-ranked Gators (7-2, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) host Vanderbilt on Saturday. With Gouraige now a starter, Florida's primary backups are true freshmen Ethan White and Michael Tarquin. - AP College Football

  11/04/19 - *Andre CiscoJr/2021, Syracuse, 6-0, 216 (DS#4 FS) + More +

Syracuse coach Dino Babers has fired defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Brian Ward, effective immediately. Babers says in a release Sunday from the university that he felt "a change needed to be made at this time." Defensive ends coach Steve Stanard has been promoted to defensive coordinator on an interim basis. The move came a day after the Syracuse defense allowed a school-record 496 yards rushing in a humiliating 58-27 home loss to Boston College, which set a school record of its own with 691 yards offensively.

BC tailbacks AJ Dillon and David Bailey combined to rush for 414 yards and five touchdowns and quarterback Dennis Grosel had three scoring passes in only 10 throws. Stanard, who joined the Syracuse staff in 2017, has spent 20 seasons as a defensive coordinator, most recently at Wyoming where he served as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 2014-16. He's also worked as the defensive coordinator at five other schools. The Orange (3-6, 0-5 Atlantic Coast Conference), who are in a bye week, are the only team in the conference without a league win. - AP College Football

Syracuse punter Sterling Hofrichter was named a captain last week and has done his share to help the Orange. He leads the ACC with 19 punts downed inside the 20 this season, is tied with Virginia Tech's Oscar Bradburn for the league lead with 16 punts of 50 or more yards, and ranks 15th nationally with a gross punting average of 45.3 yards. Hofrichter's booming kicks have produced a few turnovers, too. "We're just going to come out and try to play our best game of the season," Hofrichter said as he prepared for Florida State. "I've just got to focus on what I can do to help the team." - AP College Football
