  As Arkansas football welcomed a new recruiting class Wednesday, several Razorbacks on the 2021 roster are in search of new opportunities. Three players are entering the NCAA transfer portal - defensive lineman Andy Boykin, defensive back Jermaine Hamilton-Jordan and linebacker J.T. Towers. Boykin, a 6-4, 290-pounder from Lagrange, Ga., intends to transfer after two seasons at Arkansas. He appeared in one game during the 2020 season and did not record any statistics. A former 3-star prospect, Boykin was rated the No. 37 strong-side defensive end in the country in the 2020 class by 247Sports and the No. 51 prospect in Georgia, according to ESPN. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  Luke Jackson kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired to lift Southern to a 38-35 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday night. Alcorn State's Felix Harper tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to CJ Bolar that tied the game 35-35 with about a minute left. On the ensuing series, Glendon McDaniel completed 4 of 5 passes to set up Jackson's game-winning kick. McDaniel was 20-of-34 passing for 258 yards and threw one touchdown pass. Jerodd Sims added 74 yards rushing on 22 carries that included three short-yardage touchdown runs for Southern (4-4, 3-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Harper threw for 206 yards and four touchdown passes to lead Alcorn State (5-3, 4-1). Each of Bolar's two catches were for scores.   Kobe Dillon set a school record with 267 yards rushing, on just 14 carries, and scored three touchdowns as Southern ran away from Arkansas-Pine Bluff 34-7 on Saturday. After Southern (3-3, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) came up with an interception on the third play of the game, Dillon took his first carry 40 yards for a touchdown. Early in the second quarter, he ran 45 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead. Arkansas-Pine Bluff coughed it up on the ensuing kickoff and the Jaguars recovered. Ladarius Skelton threw an 11-yard scoring pass to Jamar Washington for a three-score lead. On the first play after halftime, Dillon ran for a 75-yard score. He averaged 53.3 yards per carry on his three scoring runs. Those three rushing touchdowns produced 60% of his total rushing yardage. Xzavier Vaughn's 13-yard touchdown for UAPB (1-5, 0-4) occurred with 1:54 remaining. - AP College Football

  Glendon McDaniel threw for a touchdown and ran for two more, Devon Benn also had two rushing TDs, and Southern beat Division II Miles College 41-24 on Saturday night. Jason Collins, in his first year as Southern's head coach, got his first career win. Donte Edwards scored on a 22-yard run gave Miles College a 24-20 with 1:24 left in the third quarter but, two plays from scrimmage later, Craig Nelson took a handoff and ran 68 yards for a score to put Southern (1-1) in front for good. McDaniel hit Marquis McClain for a 39-yard touchdown early in the fourth and then scored on a 5-yard run to cap the scoring with 7:25 remaining.   Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Stephon Wright has entered the transfer portal. The 6-foot-4, 287-pounder will have four years of eligibility at his new school. Wright, a product of Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, has not seen much playing time due to injuries. Last season he served a a backup to junior Jermayne Lole at 3-technique tackle. He played in two games in the shortened season but did not record a tackle. He had shoulder surgery during the offseason that prevented him from going through spring drills in March. Wright was one of ASU's most prized recruits in 2019. He boasted a four-star ranking and had been pegged the No. 18 strong side defensive end and No. 255 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite ranking. - Arizona Republic

  MARCH 1 SWAC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK: Southern's Cesar Barajas (Arcadia, Fla.) made a game-winning 41-yard field goal during the Jaguars 24-21 victory over Alabama State. Barajas was one-for-one in field goals during the game. He was also perfect in extra point attempts against the Hornets making all three of his attempts. Barajas also punted the ball four times for an average of 45.8 yards including a 52-yard punt and placed three punts inside the Alabama State 20-yard line. - Southwestern Athletic Conference Football

  MARCH 1 SWAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Southern's Jordan Lewis (Ocala, Fla.) had a career game during Southern's 24-21 victory over Alabama State. He had a career-high 11 tackles highlighted by eight solo stops and four sacks against the Hornets. Lewis forced a fumble at the 14-yard line that was later recovered by Southern setting up first and goal.   Ladarius Skelton passed for a touchdown and ran for another, Chase Foster scored on a 14-yard interception return and Southern held on to beat Alabama State 24-21 on Friday night in the opener for both teams in a season delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Skelton was 10-of-22 passing for 135 yards and had 72 yards rushing. On a play-action pass, Skelton hit a wide-open Gregory Perkins who raced 40 more yards for a 59-yard score to make it 21-all on the second play of the fourth quarter. Alabama State then went three-and-out and Cesar Barajas made a 41-yard field goal to cap the scoring with 12:29 to play. The Hornets missed a 44-yard field-goal attempt with four seconds left. Ryan Nettles was 16-of-27 passing for 149 yards and two touchdowns the Hornets. He threw one interception and was sacked six times.   2021 ALL-SWAC PRESEASON FIRST TEAM (COACHES): RB Devon Benn, Redshirt Senior, Southern,...Benn, redshirt senior running back from New Orleans, LA was voted All-SWAC First Team after racking up 806 yards rushing off 153 carries with seven touchdowns finishing in the top 10 in the SWAC in rushing yards. Averaging 5.3 yards per carry and 62.0 yards per game. He started all 13 games for the Jaguars in 2019. On November 9th Devon rushed for a season-high 120 yards off 16 carries for two touchdowns.
