After three years playing for an FBS program at Kansas, defensive back Corione Harris plans to finish his college career at the FCS level. The former KU cornerback and safety announced Monday his decision to commit to McNeese, which plays in the Southland Conference. Harris, who signed with Kansas in 2018 as a four-star prospect from Louisiana, entered the NCAA's transfer portal in early January following a 2020 season in which he played exclusively as a reserve. Formerly a starting cornerback as a freshman and sophomore, Harris moved to safety ahead of what would become his last year in the program. An offseason suspension tied to an arrest was lifted by KU head coach Les Miles just before the season began, and Miles and the staff moved Harris to a position group where they hoped he could fill a need. Harris appeared in seven games as a backup, made 11 total tackles, and was credited with a forced fumble. - Lawrence Journal World

When Corione Harris makes his return to the Kansas football lineup - likely as soon as this Saturday at Baylor - the recently reinstated junior will do so at a new position. KU head coach Les Miles, who just before the season opener brought Harris back from an eight-month suspension, said Monday that the junior defensive back from New Orleans began practicing this past week and has moved to safety. "I think safety becomes the easier place to enter," Miles said of Harris' return, after an offseason arrest and indefinite suspension kept him away from the program until his court matters were settled in early September. "And I think we're better at corner than when Corione left," Miles said. "It's likely he'll start in there at safety and give us another coverage hand at that spot."

In the Jayhawks' season-opening loss to Coastal Carolina, senior Kyle Mayberry and freshman Karon Prunty started at cornerback, while Elijah Jones played as a reserve. Now listed at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, Harris spent time as a starting cornerback for KU each of the previous two seasons, after arriving in Lawrence as a touted four-star prospect in the class of 2018. Harris intercepted a pass versus Rutgers in his third career game, but has not recorded another since. - Lawrence Journal World

A former Auburn wide receiver has decided on a transfer destination. Marquis McClain has committed to Southern, he told AL.com. While McClain created some buzz during the 2017, 2018 and 2019 offseasons with the Tigers, he was strictly a backup throughout his time with Auburn and went into the NCAA transfer portal in December in a search of a school that would give him an opportunity to be a bigger factor at receiver. He'll now get that chance at Southern, which finished last year 8-5 and placed first in the SWAC's West division. - Birmingham News

Within a few weeks of entering the NCAA transfer portal, Marquis McClain was already on the verge of picking a new school. Tulane. The former Auburn wide receiver liked what he was hearing from Tulane coaches, enjoyed his visit to the campus and was all set to commit and become a member of the Green Wave. It didn't work out, though. Issues getting accepted into graduate school at Tulane contributed to that opportunity falling through and led to McClain instead needing to find a different transfer destination. It's a process he's still going through now - several months later.

While the 6-foot-2, 225-pound McClain created some buzz last spring at Auburn, the Florida native ended up receiving just limited playing time for a third straight year and finished his redshirt junior season with only one catch. So he left, hoping and expecting to find a place where he would be in position to be a much bigger factor on offense. That hasn't gone as smoothly as expected, as has been the case for many players going through the transfer portal process. In addition to Tulane, McClain was also intrigued early on with FAU, but that fell through when Lane Kiffin left FAU for Ole Miss. - Birmingham News
