Bowman, beginning his seventh year of eligibility at age 24, completed 24 of 33 passes for 265 yards in the opener for both teams. He threw scoring passes of 6 yards to Brennan Presley, 22 yards to Ollie Gordon II and 58 yards to Rashod Owens. South Dakota State answered behind quarterback Mark Gronowski, the reigning Walter Payton Award winner as the top offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. He took the Jackrabbits 75 yards in three plays, capping the drive with a 21-yard scoring pass to Grahm Goering to make it 24-13. Oklahoma State responded with 17 straight points to make it 31-13. - AP College Football

UNT returns several defensive linemen who contributed in 2022 and could take another step forward next season. Vailea posted 44 tackles last season, when Brown added 40 tackles and 4.0 sacks. Johnson finished with 3.5 sacks. Each of those players should benefit from an additional year in UNT's strength and conditioning program. UNT needs those players to make a significant jump as it prepares to move from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference. The challenge for most programs that move to a higher-level league is competing in the trenches. - Denton Record

In the same week in which the Oklahoma State football program learned that three of its top five wide receivers were, in fact, transferring elsewhere, the Cowboys received a commitment from one of the top wideouts in the transfer portal. After nearly six weeks in the transfer portal, former Iowa wide receiver Arland Bruce IV, a former four-star prospect out of both Ankeny (Iowa) and Olathe North (Kansas), shared via Twitter on Saturday afternoon that he's headed to Stillwater.

The 5-foot-10, 198-pound pass catcher chose the Cowboys over offers from Tulane and Fresno State. He had 44 catches for 396 yards and four touchdowns in 25 games during his two years with the Hawkeyes. Bruce's limited action at Iowa came as a surprise after a high school career that included two all-state honors at running back in his junior and senior years - and, as a sophomore, second-team all-state honors at quarterback. - Stillwater Press

Elijah Collins has found a new home at a Power Five school. The former Michigan State football and U-D Jesuit High running back plans to transfer to Oklahoma State of the Big 12, he revealed Saturday night on Twitter. Collins entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month and has one season of eligibility remaining thanks to the NCAA's waiver for the 2020 season.

Collins tied with Jalen Berger to lead the Spartans with six touchdowns on the ground in 2022 and was second on the roster with 329 yards and 70 carries. He also had 14 catches for 93 yards. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Collins played in 41 games and finished with 1,506 rushing yards on 353 carries, one of just 46 Spartans to run for more than 1,000 yards and the 28th in school history with 300-plus rushing attempts. He finished with 11 touchdowns and four 100-yard games. - Lansing State Journal

  01/15/23 - Tanner BrownrSr/2023, Oklahoma State, 6-1, 177 (DS#10 K) + More +

Oklahoma State kicker Tanner Brown nailed a 27-yard field goal with 1:55 remaining in Saturday's Hula Bowl to lift Team Kai over Team Aina 16-13 in the college football all-star game at UCF's FBC Mortgage Stadium. More than 100 players from across the country participated in the Hula Bowl, which has been traditionally held at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, but took place in Orlando for the second straight year.

"It was great for the kids," Team Kai head coach Brian Billick told the Orlando Sentinel."The way it should be - a close-fought game. They worked through it and had a great week. Turnovers as usual dictate the outcome of the game." Brown's game-winning kick was set up by an interception from Arizona edge rusher Jalen Harris, who deflected and caught a pass from Fordham quarterback Tim DeMorat. DeMorat, who played high school football at Viera, finished 2 of 4 passing for 80 yards with the interception and 1 touchdown - a 75-yard pass to UAB wideout Trea Shropshire as the third quarter came to a close. - Orlando Sentinel

  01/12/23 - Alan BowmanrSr/2025, Oklahoma State, 6-3, 220 (DS#60 QB) + More +

Oklahoma State's newest quarterback is quite familiar with the Big 12. In fact, he's had a good bit of success at Boone Pickens Stadium. The Cowboys landed a commitment from former Texas Tech gunslinger Alan Bowman, who spent the last two seasons at Michigan before entering the transfer portal in December.

Bowman, who has one year of eligibility remaining, announced his decision on Twitter on Monday afternoon. Originally from Grapevine, Texas, Bowman made 16 starts and threw for more than 5,000 yards over three seasons at Texas Tech from 2018-20. He appeared in seven games and attempted 11 passes the last two years as a backup at Michigan. Bowman has a career completion percentage of 67.1%, throwing for 5,329 yards with 34 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. - Daily Oklahoman

Two more Oklahoma State players will test the NFL Draft waters. On Saturday afternoon, safety Jason Taylor II and wide receiver Braydon Johnson announced their intentions to enter the NFL Draft pool, joining a handful of other players attempting to make an NFL roster. "I want to thank my coaches for trusting in me and giving me the opportunities to succeed," Taylor wrote in a statement. While still having one year of eligibility remaining, Taylor's move is one many expected following OSU's 24-17 loss to Wisconsin in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

After taking over the starting safety role last season when Tre Sterling suffered a wrist injury, Taylor recorded two interceptions and forced a fumble in 14 games. He broke out this season, starting 13 games and recording 99 tackles and six interceptions - a statistic he led the Big 12 in this year. He also tallied 3.5 tackles for loss and was named to the All-Big 12 Defensive First Team. - Tulsa World

It appears Elijah Collins' career at Michigan State has come to an end. The running back from University of Detroit-Jesuit, who was the Spartans' leading rusher as a redshirt freshman in 2019 before COVID-19 and injuries slowed his progress, has entered the transfer portal, a team spokesman confirmed on Wednesday. It's a move Collins has been contemplating since late in the season, saying before Michigan State's final home game against Indiana that he had not yet made a decision on his future, one that includes one season of eligibility remaining because of the extra season the NCAA offered to players affected by COVID in 2020.

With the return of Jalen Berger, as well veterans Harold Joiner, Jordon Simmons and Davion Primm, it will be a crowded running back room, especially adding in the arrival of Nathan Carter and Jaren Mangham as transfers. It all likely played a part in Collins' decision to play one final season elsewhere. It's a bittersweet ending for a longtime fan favorite. After playing in three games and preserving his redshirt in 2018, Collins burst onto the scene in 2019, rushing for 192 yards in Week 2 against Western Michigan before finishing the season with 988 yards and five touchdowns. - Detroit News

It's unclear if the former Carl Albert star will return for his extra year of eligibility or enter the NFL Draft. So, this could be his final game with the Cowboys. If so, Taylor has had quite a run of making plays and providing steady leadership. And don't forget his remarkable one-handed catch on an onside kick in last season's Fiesta Bowl. This could be another game where he makes another tremendous play to end things right. - Daily Oklahoman
