All three quarterbacks who passed for 400 yards Saturday were on Alabama's roster last year, Al.com first reported. Layne Hatcher threw for 440 yards and four touchdowns against Troy in his first start for Arkansas State. He was granted immediate eligibility this season because he was a walk-on at Alabama. The Crimson Tide's Tua Tagovailoa passed for 418 yards and six TDs against Mississippi. Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts threw for 415 yards and three TDs against Texas Tech. - AP College Football

Oklahoma receivers CeeDee Lamb and Charleston Rambo had envisioned how Saturday's game against Texas Tech would go for them. With help from Jalen Hurts, those thoughts became reality. Hurts passed for 415 yards and three touchdowns, Lamb had career highs of 185 yards receiving and three touchdowns, and No. 6 Oklahoma rolled past the Red Raiders 55-16. Rambo entered the day with the team lead in receptions, yards and touchdowns, but Lamb got the best of their friendly competition on Saturday. "That's my roommate, so Thursday we were talking about stuff we were going to do on Saturday and he did it," Rambo said. "That's my dog, so I'm happy for him."

Rambo had 122 yards receiving on just two catches in the first quarter, and Lamb took it from there. "It's exciting when you see one of your closest friends doing the things that he wanted to do and it was all planned," Lamb said. "He's doing a good job, and I just hope he keeps getting better." Hurts also ran for 70 yards and another score for the Sooners (4-0, 1-0 Big 12). His 485 yards of total offense ranks eighth in Oklahoma history. It was the first 400-yard passing game for the senior transfer from Alabama. "He's seeing the field really well," Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley said. "He's understanding how we want to attack people. He was a little more confident today, a little bit more steady." - Oklahoma/AP College Football

Hurts threw his first interception of the season on a tipped ball in the third quarter. Nick Basquine couldn't quite get to it, and Douglas Coleman III picked it off. "We could have sat there and dwelled on it, pouted, whatever, but that's not the culture we have as a team," Hurts said. "We learn from it and move forward and keep the main thing the main thing." - AP College Football

Jalen Hurts continues to do things unprecedented by an Oklahoma quarterback. Against UCLA, he became the first to rush for 100 yards or more in the opening quarter of a game (103) and the first to record at least 200 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a first half. His 141 yards rushing in the half were the most by an OU quarterback through two quarters. - AP College Football

Lincoln Riley and Jalen Hurts sent the Big 12 a message in fifth-ranked Oklahoma's 48-14 victory over UCLA on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl. Despite 611 yards of offense - including 439 coming courtesy of Hurts - the Oklahoma coach and quarterback are far from satisfied going into an off week before opening conference play. "I think we're headed in the right direction," said Hurts, who became the first Oklahoma quarterback to pass for 200 yards and rush for 100 in the first half. "The intent for us is coming out and playing a complete game. I don't think we did it tonight. We can improve."

The graduate transfer from Alabama led the Sooners to six touchdowns and a pair of field goals in 10 drives. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns and ran 14 times for 150 yards and a score. "He played pretty good. He made the majority of plays that he was supposed to make and then a few where he made a couple off script that were important plays," Riley said of Hurts. "He took some steps from the last couple of weeks. It's a laundry list of things to get better at, and that is how I will approach it with him." CeeDee Lamb and Charleston Rambo each had two touchdowns to help the Sooners (3-0) win their 21st straight true road game. That is tied with Alabama (1970-75) the second-longest away streak after World War II. UCLA drops to 0-3 for the second straight year. Dorian Thompson-Robinson passed for 201 yards and two touchdowns. - Oklahoma/AP College Football

Jalen Hurts passed for 259 yards and three touchdowns in just over two quarters and No. 4 Oklahoma rolled past South Dakota 70-14 on Saturday night. It was Oklahoma's highest points total since scoring 79 in a victory over North Texas in 2007. CeeDee Lamb had six catches for 144 yards and a touchdown, and Rhamondre Stevenson ran for 104 yards and a score for the Sooners (2-0), who gained 733 yards against the FCS Coyotes (0-2). "They're just so multiple," South Dakota coach Bob Nielson said. "You've got a tremendously deep group of really good wide receivers, you've got a couple of NFL-caliber running backs and a really talented quarterback who can make big plays with his feet and throw it. Put that together with a good offensive line, and I'm not sure there's going to be a lot of teams that do a good job defending them throughout the course of the year."

Austin Simmons passed for 244 yards and two touchdowns for South Dakota, but he threw two interceptions. Kody Case had six catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. The Sooners led 28-0 at halftime. Oklahoma's defense got into the act early in the third quarter when Brendan Radley-Hiles scored on a 30-yard interception return. Radley-Hiles also had a fumble recovery. Oklahoma forced three turnovers after failing to force any in its season-opening victory over Houston. The Sooners held the Coyotes to 348 yards. It was a step forward in Oklahoma's second game under defensive coordinator Alex Grinch. - AP College Football

Even one of the best nights ever for an Oklahoma player wasn't good enough for Jalen Hurts. The new Sooners quarterback passed for three touchdowns and ran for three more, and No. 4 Oklahoma rolled past Houston 49-31 on Sunday night. It was Hurts' first game for the Sooners since he transferred from Alabama. He put on a show as his predecessor, 2018 Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, watched. He posted 508 total yards, the fifth-most in school history. Hurts was not impressed. And at a school that has produced back-to-back Heisman-winning quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield and Murray, nitpicking has become the norm at that position. "We did some really good things out there tonight, but there are a lot of things we can improve on," he said. "We've got to take that next step."

Hurts started at Alabama for two years before losing the job to Tua Tagovailoa. He stayed as a backup at Alabama last season, then transferred to Oklahoma and won the starting job in preseason camp. He looked at home in the opener - he completed 20 of 23 passes for 332, ran for 176 yards on 16 carries and helped the Sooners gain 686 total yards. Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley liked how Hurts handled the situation. "He played good," Riley said. "There were things he could do better, but I thought he handled the moment good. You could tell out there that he'd been in it, certainly. I'm sure he had some nerves, but he did a good job managing them." - AP College Football

  08/28/19 - *CeeDee LambJr/2020, Oklahoma, 6-2, 198 (DS#1 WR) + More +

It's CeeDee Lamb's turn to be Oklahoma's big-name receiver. The past two years, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown garnered much of the attention with his blazing speed and highlight-reel plays before leaving for the NFL. Now, Lamb is in position to garner the attention and accolades. The 6-foot-2 junior said he will not be complacent now that he is the main man. "I'm just trying to go out there and be great," he said. "Show everybody what I can do for the most part, that I've gotten better, that I've gotten bigger, faster, stronger. I just want to do all I can on my part, on my end, to help the team win."

Oklahoma has a history of players stepping up to become star receivers in recent years. In 2015, Dede Westbrook was the No. 2 option behind Sterling Shepard. The next year, he won the Biletnikoff Award winner for the nation's top receiver. In 2017, after Westbrook went to the NFL, Brown emerged. Last season, Brown was a first-team Associated Press All-American. Lamb has been a co-star at times. He has 111 catches for 1,965 yards and 18 touchdowns in his career, with yardage and touchdown totals that sit at 10th place in school history. Last season, he caught 65 passes for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had 160 yards and two touchdowns against Kansas State, 167 yards and a score against Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game and 109 yards and a touchdown in the College Football Playoff loss to Alabama. "I've just got to keep it rolling, man," he said. "That's my motto going into this season, is keep it rolling." - AP College Football

  08/20/19 - Jalen HurtsSr/2020, Oklahoma, 6-1, 222 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Jalen Hurts' rise to the starting quarterback position at Oklahoma wasn't a foregone conclusion, despite his wealth of championship experience at Alabama. Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley took his time before naming Hurts the starter for the fourth-ranked Sooners' Sept. 1 season opener against Houston. Though Hurts played in three national championship games for Alabama and helped the Crimson Tide win the 2017 national title, Riley said he wanted to see how Hurts would adjust to a new system after he transferred to Oklahoma in January .

Hurts barely won the job over redshirt freshman Tanner Mordecai and true freshman Spencer Rattler. Hurts didn't clinch the job until Riley reviewed a recent scrimmage. Riley spent two years as Oklahoma's offensive coordinator and is entering his third as the Sooners' head coach, yet this might have been his toughest call. "I just thought he was just slightly better here as it went on, and it was slightly," Riley said. "Probably the closest one (quarterback race) that we've had since I've been at Oklahoma." - AP College Football

No. 4 Oklahoma has named Jalen Hurts its starting quarterback for the Sept. 1 season opener against Houston. Hurts played in three national championship games for Alabama and helped the Crimson Tide win the 2017 national title. He transferred to Oklahoma in January and has won the job over redshirt freshman Tanner Mordecai and true freshman Spencer Rattler. Hurts started the 2016 and 2017 seasons and led Alabama to a 26-2 record. He lost the starting job to Tua Tagovailoa in 2018 but still played in 13 games. He replaced the injured Tagovailoa in the fourth quarter of the 2018 SEC championship game and rallied the Crimson Tide to a 35-28 win over Georgia. Oklahoma made the announcement Monday. - AP College Football
