  09/29/19 - *Jeffrey Okudah, Jr/2020, Ohio State, 6-1, 205 (DS#1 CB) + More +

It's been pounded into the heads of Ohio State players since the winter, how losses to unranked opponents from the Big Ten West ended bids for the College Football Playoff the last two years. The Buckeyes seem to have received the message. Their domination of Nebraska in a 48-7 win on Saturday night showed as much. "If you look in the past, we've been here before," cornerback Jeff Okudah said. "We've been 4-0 and 5-0 before, so I think the goal now is to have a complete season and don't make any slip-ups. If we take it week-by-week and don't look ahead past anybody, I think that we'll be just fine."

The Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) might be more than just fine. They moved from No. 5 to No. 4 in The Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday, received a season-high seven first-place votes and are coming off a performance suggesting this might be the most complete Ohio State team since the 2014 national championship season. Up next is another Saturday game in prime time, this one at home against No. 25 Michigan State (4-1, 2-0). Ohio State remains in prove-it mode despite having outscored its first five opponents by a combined 262-43. The Spartans will be the Buckeyes' first ranked opponent. - AP College Football

  09/29/19 - *Justin Fields, Jr/2021, Ohio State, 6-3, 227 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Ohio State was supposed to get its first big test of the season at Nebraska. It hardly turned out that way. Justin Fields threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez was intercepted on three of the Cornhuskers' first four series, and the No. 5 Buckeyes turned in their most impressive performance of the season in a 48-7 victory Saturday night. Ohio State (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) scored on its first six possessions and led 38-0 after a dizzying first half. By the time Nebraska finally scored, the Buckeyes had rolled off 124 straight points since trailing Miami (Ohio) 5-0 last week. "I think we're very confident right now," Fields said. "We came into Lincoln - the crowd is amazing here - and it was loud at the beginning. We handled it well, jumped on them early and didn't let up."

Nebraska (3-2, 1-1) didn't go over 100 yards of total offense until late in the third quarter, just before its only TD, and it was obvious early that second-year coach Scott Frost's program is still a ways from returning to national prominence. "We're all disappointed," Frost said. "I thought we had a puncher's chance if we came out and played a really good game, and we didn't, so that's the end result. I told the team we can't doubt for a second where this is going, what we're doing to get it there, the improvement we've made. I want the guys to go to bed tonight and put this behind them." The Buckeyes had come to Lincoln off four straight lopsided wins but the question remained: just how good are they? Based on this performance, they're really good. - Ohio State/AP College Football

Jeff Okudah had interceptions on two of Nebraska's first three series. He made a diving pick to set up Fields' 15-yard run up the middle for the Buckeyes' first touchdown. Okudah was on his back at his own 4 when he snagged a ball tipped by Wan'Dale Robinson, and that led to the first of Blake Haubeil's two field goals. - Ohio State/AP College Football

  09/14/19 - *J.K. Dobbins, Jr/2020, Ohio State, 5-09, 209 (DS#1 RB) + More +

J.K. Dobbins ran for 193 yards and scored twice Saturday while Justin Fields threw three touchdown passes to lead No. 6 Ohio State to a 51-10 rout at Indiana. The Buckeyes (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) have won each of their first three games by at least 24 points and extended their winning streak in the series to 24, dating to a tie in 1990. Ohio State hasn't lost to Indiana since 1988. And with Peyton Ramsey starting at quarterback in place of the injured Michael Penix Jr., the Hoosiers (2-1, 0-1) never had a chance. It might not have mattered with Dobbins and Fields gashing Indiana's defense.

Fields opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run, and then hooked up with Chris Olave for a 37-yard TD pass early in the second quarter to make it 14-3. On the ensuing Indiana series, Olave blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety, and Dobbins' slicing 56-yard run set up a 9-yard TD pass from Fields to K.J. Hill Jr. for a 23-3 lead. Dobbins reached the end zone by breaking a handful of tackles on a 26-yard run to make it 30-3. Indiana finally answered when Ramsey threw to Donovan Hale, who turned and found Peyton Hendershot wide open for a 49-yard TD pass. It was the first touchdown allowed in the first half this season by Ohio State. - AP College Football

  09/14/19 - Damon Arnette, rSr/2020, Ohio State, 6-0, 195 (DS#7 CB) + More +

The Buckeyes were everything they're cracked up to be. Fields was efficient, Dobbins proficient and the defense almost impenetrable. Ohio State scored in all three phases including a 96-yard interception return by Damon Arnette Jr. - the fifth-longest in school history. It could be an unbeatable combination. - AP College Football

  09/07/19 - *Justin Fields, Jr/2021, Ohio State, 6-3, 227 (DS#4 QB) + More +

The hopes for a shocking upset that Luke Fickell and Cincinnati carried with them up Interstate 71 didn't take long to dissipate into the late summer air at Ohio Stadium on Saturday. The long afternoon started when quarterback Justin Fields dashed up the middle for a 7-yard touchdown run on Ohio State's second drive of the day. And it got worse for the Bearcats from there. Fields, the Georgia transfer in his first year starting for the Buckeyes, was prolific the rest of the day with help from tailback J.K. Dobbins and an angry Ohio State defense in the 42-0 rout of Cincinnati, which last beat the Buckeyes in football 122 years ago. "We got our absolute butts whipped," said Fickell, the third-year Bearcats coach who played and coached for years at Ohio State.

Fields ran for a second score and passed for two as No. 5 Ohio State (2-0) dismantled Cincinnati in Fickell's return to Ohio Stadium. "They just ruined any sentimental thought you had," he said. "I'm disappointed we couldn't give them a real game." The Bearcats (1-1) came in with confidence after an opening week home win over UCLA but couldn't get it together. By halftime it was 28-0. The Ohio State defense held down Cincinnati and shut the door with a blocked field goal, an interception and, late in the game, a fumble for a touchback on the only occasions the Bearcats threatened. The Buckeyes sacked quarterback Desmond Ritter five times. - AP College Football

  08/31/19 - *Justin Fields, Jr/2021, Ohio State, 6-3, 227 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Justin Fields put together a game's worth of highlights in half a quarter for Ohio State against FAU. The much-anticipated debut of Fields as the Buckeyes' starting quarterback resulted in four touchdowns in the first four drives. The rest of the game was kind of sleepy for Fields and the Buckeyes, who will get a better test next week when Cincinnati comes to the Horseshoe. Fields, the former five-star prospect who was a backup to Jake Fromm at Georgia last season, has immense potential. He is the type of player who could make Ohio State a threat to the Alabama-Clemson reign atop college football. - AP College Football

Justin Fields made some mistakes that quarterbacks make when they haven't played much. The much-ballyhooed Georgia transfer also showed flashes of how good he might be and why he was a five-star recruit. Fields, who saw limited action as a freshman last season sitting behind Jake Fromm, threw four touchdown passes and ran for a score in his first game for Ohio State, leading the fifth-ranked Buckeyes over Florida Atlantic 45-21 on Saturday in the season opener.

Fields made it look easy early, engineering touchdown on Ohio State's first four drives, including his 51-yard scoring run on the Buckeyes' first possession. The Buckeyes' offense sputtered in the second and third quarters behind its relatively inexperienced leader. Fields stayed in the game for all but the last offensive series, finishing 18 for 25 for 234 yards. "We jumped on them early, but we just got to keep that tempo up and just be able to score all game long," Fields said. Tight end Jeremy Ruckert caught two touchdown passes, and Binjimen Victor and Chris Olave also had scoring grabs. J.K. Dobbins had 91 rushing yards and a touchdown. - AP College Football

  08/27/19 - *Chase Young, Jr/2020, Ohio State, 6-5, 264 (DS#1 DE) + More +

Chase Young is one chatty Buckeye, and he has the game to back up the big talk. Young is No. 5 Ohio State 's best player and was named to the preseason Associated Press All-America team presented by Regions Bank. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end with startling quickness and a mean streak rarely stops cheering, cajoling and trash-talking. "Every day we're expected to have the most juice," Young said of the defensive front. Last year, after star defensive end Nick Bosa went down with an injury in the third game, Young carried the flag for the Buckeyes' "Rushmen," piling up 10 sacks, 15.5 tackles for a loss and 77 quarterback pressures and establishing himself as one of the most dynamic linemen in the country. The Maryland native did it a lot of the time with sore ankles.

Young became only the eighth player in Ohio State history to record double-digit sacks in a season. If he can do it again in this, his junior year and likely his last in Columbus, he will become only the second to have double-digits sacks in a season. Mike Vrabel, now head coach of the NFL's Tennessee Titans, did it in 1994 and '95. Rated as the seventh overall prospect nationally coming out of high school in 2017, Young is bright on the national radar now, and is set up for monster year as the Buckeyes featured pass rusher. "I feel like looking at the film from last year, I can use my hands a lot better," Young said. "I feel like I can get off the ball better. It's just a lot of stuff where I'm really nitpicky about." - AP College Football

As in past years, this list will remain open and subject to change throughout the season. The final version of the Watch List will be issued prior to our first ballot in late November. We plan on announcing our 2019 recipient on December 11th. - Ted Hendricks Foundation

  08/18/19 - *J.K. Dobbins, Jr/2020, Ohio State, 5-09, 209 (DS#1 RB) + More +

Despite running for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns, J.K. Dobbins says last season was a frustrating personal failure. "I didn't make defenses fear me as I should," the Ohio State tailback said while vowing to bounce back in 2019. After he set a freshman school rushing record in 2017 with 1,403 yards, his numbers dropped off last season. Platooning with Mike Weber, Dobbins averaged 4.6 yards per carry, compared with 7.2 per carry the previous year as the passing game behind record-breaking quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. took center stage. After logging six 100-yard rushing games as a freshman, he did it just three times last season and the Buckeyes' running game failed to find consistency.

"I don't know if he struggled as much as we could just do a better job of calling (plays) up and putting him in good places and getting the blocking a little better," offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said. "To me, running is a group effort, and our group was good, just not as good as it needs to be." The pieces are falling into place for a productive year for Dobbins, and his wide smile is the first indication. "I just feel like I'm the best running back in the nation, and I want to prove that," the 20-year-old junior said. "I didn't last year, and I have a chip on my shoulder because I know I can do better." - AP College Football
