DEC 2 SUN BELT SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Blake Grupe, Arkansas State (Sophomore, K, Sedalis, Mo.),...Arkansas State sophomore kicker Blake Grupe tied his career high with three field goals made, was a perfect 3-of-3 on extra points and scored 12 points during Arkansas State's road game at South Alabama. The Sedalia, Mo., native made all three of his attempts covering 40, 23 and 20 yards. His 12 points were only one shy of his career-high 13 and made him just the second Arkansas State player to ever post 100 points in a season. Not only did he take over second place for most points by kicking in a season at A-State, he increased his field goals made total to 17 to tie the third most in school history. He has now made 43 consecutive extra points to tie the fourth longest streak in A-State history. His career numbers increased to move him into sixth and seventh place at Arkansas State for points by kicking and field goals made, respectively. - Sun Belt Football

  11/30/19 - Ian BookrSr/2021, Notre Dame, 6-0, 211 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Ian Book threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns and No. 15 Notre Dame reached double-digit wins for the third straight season by beating Stanford 45-24 on Saturday. Book threw two TD passes to Chase Claypool and also connected with Tony Jones Jr. and Tommy Tremble to help the Fighting Irish (10-2, No. 16 CFP) snap a five-game losing streak at Stanford Stadium. Notre Dame also put together three straight seasons of at least 10 wins for the second time in school history, having previously done it under Lou Holtz from 1991-93.

Davis Mills threw two TD passes for the Cardinal (4-8), who have lost four straight for the first time since 2007. Stanford also finished with its first losing record since 2008, ending a streak of 10 straight bowl bids. Notre Dame fell into a 17-7 hole before scoring two TDs in the final 3:01 of the first half to take a 21-17 lead at the break. Book threw a 6-yard TD to Tremble after Isaiah Foskey blocked a punt and then capped a three-play, 76-yard drive with a 41-yard strike to Claypool. Book then had a 26-yard scramble on fourth-and-2 to set up an 8-yard TD pass to Claypool that made it 28-17 in the third quarter, putting the Irish in control. - Notre Dame/AP College Football

  11/23/19 - Ian BookrSr/2021, Notre Dame, 6-0, 211 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Ian Book threw three touchdown passes and No. 15 Notre Dame corralled Boston College star running back AJ Dillon in a 40-7 victory Saturday. The fourth straight victory by the Fighting Irish (9-2, No. 15 CFP) completed their second straight unbeaten season (7-0) at Notre Dame Stadium, where they have won 18 straight. But for the second straight week, the stadium was not filled after a streak of 273 sellouts since 1973. The announced crowd of 71,827 was 5,795 short of capacity. "We controlled the line of scrimmage," Irish coach Brian Kelly said. "We were a little uneven early on. To go undefeated at home two years in a row says everything about what these seniors mean to this program."

A total of 29 players, some with eligibility remaining, were introduced before the final home game. The group is 31-6 in three seasons since a 4-8 freshman year in 2016. One of the players taking a pre-game bow was Book, who could return next fall after not playing his freshman campaign. He now has 29 touchdown passes for the season, 14 in the four-game winning streak. "We'll see," Book said when asked if it was going to be his final home game. "You never know what can happen." - Notre Dame/AP College Football

  11/07/19 - Nick McCloudrSr/2021, Notre Dame, 6-0, 193 (DS#47 CB) + More +

Finally, some good news on the injury front for the NC State football team.

At least, potentially.

Coach Dave Doeren floated the possibility that senior cornerback Nick McCloud, who has been sidelined with a knee injury during the Wolfpack's season opening victory against East Carolina on Aug. 31, will be ready to play in Saturday's homecoming game against defending national champion Clemson. - SI.com

  11/16/19 - Chase ClaypoolSr/2020, Notre Dame, 6-4, 238 (DS#10 WR) + More +

Chase Claypool caught four touchdown passes to match a school record and No. 16 Notre Dame shut down Navy's triple-option in a 52-20 rout on the 21st-ranked Midshipmen on Saturday. The 17th straight home victory for Brian Kelly's Fighting Irish did not sell out Notre Dame Stadium. It was the first time since 1973 Thanksgiving Day against Air Force, a string of 273 sold-out games. A crowd of 74,080, 3,542 below capacity, saw Notre Dame win for the 79th time in the 93-game series that has been played continuously since 1927. "We executed flawlessly in the first half against a really good Navy team," Kelly said. "Chase was outstanding, and the defense stopped a very difficult offense."

Ian Book completed 14 of 20 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns before exiting midway through the third quarter and the Irish (8-2, No. 16 CFP) up 45-3. It was his third game with five touchdown passes this season and followed a 38-7 victory at Duke in which he rushed for 139 yards and threw for four touchdowns, a Notre Dame first. "I think we can safely assume he is the guy we thought he would be," Kelly said. "He started slowly but has now found himself. He is the leader of our offense and our offense is playing at a high level now." But Book turned the high praise toward his wide receiver, who had seven receptions for 117 yards and now has 49 for 768 yards this season. "Chase is having an awesome year," Book said. "It's starting to show on Saturdays by how hard he's working in practice." Claypool had scoring receptions of 7, 47 and 3 yards from Book to give the Irish a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter. - Notre Dame/AP College Football

  11/10/19 - Ian BookrSr/2021, Notre Dame, 6-0, 211 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Ian Book trusted his legs to pick up chunks of yardage for No. 15 Notre Dame. The touchdowns came from his arm. Book rushed for a career-best 139 yards and threw four touchdown passes and the Fighting Irish routed Duke 38-7 on Saturday night. Book finished 18 of 32 for 181 yards passing, Chris Finke caught touchdown passes of 18 and 6 yards, and Chase Claypool and George Takacs also had short scoring catches. C'Bo Flemister rushed 2 yards for a TD for the Fighting Irish (7-2, No. 15 CFP). In winning their second straight and fifth in six games, they rolled up 469 total yards, led 21-0 before the Blue Devils picked up their second first down and kept them at bay the rest of the way. "It's hard to win in November," Book said. "You want to win every single game in November. It's huge...We're still playing for a lot of things here."

Book became the first Notre Dame quarterback with 100 yards both rushing and passing since Brandon Wimbush did it two years ago against Wake Forest. "He's just a heck of a football player," Duke coach David Cutcliffe said. Book has accounted for seven touchdowns in his last two games, both victories over Atlantic Coast Conference schools. He threw for two TDs last week against Virginia Tech, then rushed for the winning score with 29 seconds left to beat the Hokies. The Blue Devils kept him from crossing the goal line in this one, prompting Book to quip that "I need to get faster. "I need to get in the end zone," he said. "I'm kind of upset about it. But fast DBs, they caught me...I was able to get the first downs...but I want to get in the end zone." - Notre Dame/AP College Football

  11/08/19 - Ian BookrSr/2021, Notre Dame, 6-0, 211 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Kelly says QB Ian Book has maintained a high level of confidence despite an up-and-down season. Book shrugged off two interceptions last week and led an 18-play, 87-yard drive that he capped with a 7-yard touchdown run with 29 seconds left to beat the Hokies. "If you lose your confidence here as a quarterback you can't play quarterback at Notre Dame," Kelly said. "There is just so much noise...Although it's difficult for everybody when you don't play particularly well, when you don't play particularly well, we felt like he had what it took to stand up to that. You know, he did, and he's come out on the other end and should be better for it." - AP College Football

NOV 4 SUN BELT SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Blake Grupe, Arkansas State (Sophomore, Kicker, Sedalia, Mo.),...Arkansas State sophomore kicker, Blake Grupe, made both of his field goal attempts and scored 12 points in Arkansas State's seven-point road win at ULM. The Sedalia, Mo., native connected on attempts from 43 and 31 yards out and was a perfect 6-of-6 on extra point attempts to finish one point shy of his career-high total. In the process, he moved into a tie for both the eighth most field goals made and points by kicking in a career at A-State. Grupe has now made 13-of-14 field goals this year with his only miss coming from 50 yards out against Georgia. - Sun Belt Football

  11/02/19 - Ian BookrSr/2021, Notre Dame, 6-0, 211 (DS#11 QB) + More +

Ian Book ran 7 yards for a touchdown with 29 seconds left in the fourth quarter to cap an 18-play, 87-yard drive and No. 16 Notre Dame pulled out a 21-20 victory against Virginia Tech on Saturday. The Fighting Irish (6-2) had committed three turnovers deep in Virginia Tech territory, including a fumble at the goal line that Divine Deablo returned for a 98-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14 with 9 seconds left in the first half. The Hokies (5-3) added a couple of field goals in the second half and the Irish missed one, leaving Notre Dame trailing by six with 3:19 remaining and the ball at its 13.

Book led a methodical drive, converting two fourth downs, including a fourth-and-10 from the Tech 33 for 26 yards to Chase Claypool that gave the Irish first-and-goal from the 7. After two incomplete passes, Notre Dame caught Virginia Tech in a blitz. Book ran away from it and darted into the end zone. Jonathan Doerer booted through the PAT for the lead, Kyle Hamilton picked off a long pass by Quincy Patterson around midfield to end the Hokies' final possession and the Irish averted a two-game losing streak. Book passed for 341 yards and two touchdown. Patterson got the start for Virginia Tech at quarterback in place of Hendon Hooker, who had started the three previous victories but suffered a knee injury in Virginia Tech's 43-41 six-overtime victory over North Carolina two Saturdays ago. Patterson ran for 77 yards on 19 carries and completed 9 of 28 passes for 139 yards and an 8-yard touchdown to Damon Hazelton in the second quarter. - Notre Dame/AP College Football

  10/13/19 - Tony Jones JrrJr/2020, Notre Dame, 5-10, 220 (DS#40 RB) + More +

Tony Jones Jr. rushed for a career-high 176 yards and Jonathan Doerer kicked three long field goals as No. 9 Notre Dame held off longtime rival Southern California 30-27 Saturday night. The Fighting Irish (5-1), who rushed for a season-high 308 yards, clinched their third straight victory over the Trojans (3-3) on Ian Book's 8-yard run with 3:33 left. Book's touchdown ended a 14-play, 75-yard drive that took 6:54 off the clock after USC had drawn within 23-20. The Trojans' Markese Stepp, who ran for 82 yards, scored from the 2 with 1:04 left to make it 30-27. But Notre Dame's Brock Wright recovered the onside kick, and the Irish ran out the clock.

Jones' fourth 100-yard game of the season came on 25 carries. He had 12 runs for 120 yards in the first half. The Irish led 17-3 at half after Book threw a 10-yard TD pass to Cole Kmet, wide receiver Braden Lenzy ran 51 yards on a reverse and Doerer kicked a 43-yard field goal. The half ended with the teams engaging in some pushing and shoving before they headed to their locker rooms. Doerer added field goals of 52 and 43 yards in the second half to keep the Irish ahead. USC freshman Kedon Slovis completed 24 of 35 passes for 255 yards in his first game back from a concussion three weeks ago. Slovis threw touchdown passes of 38 yards to Amon-Ra St. Brown in the third quarter and 5 yards to Tyler Vaughns in the fourth. - Notre Dame/AP College Football
