  Pete Guerriero ran for 220 yards and three touchdowns and Monmouth defeated Holy Cross 44-27 on Saturday for the program's first FCS playoff victory. The Hawks (11-2), the Big South champions, will play at No. 2 seed James Madison next Saturday after speeding to a 23-0 lead en route to their ninth straight win. Guerriero, coming in as the FCS rushing leader at 139.0 yards per game, had 31 carries including touchdowns of 68, 24 and 1 yards. He set a Monmouth season rushing record, with 1,888 yards, passing David Sinisi, who had 1,674 in 2008. Kenji Bahar added 249 yards passing, completing 19 of 32 throws with a touchdown. Matt Considine threw for 196 yards with three scores and an interception for the Crusaders (7-6), the Patriot League champs.   2019 BIG SOUTH OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Kenji Bahar, QB, R-Sr., Monmouth,...Bahar is Monmouth's first Big South Offensive Player of the Year honoree since the Hawks joined the conference in 2014. He was the league's top passer during the regular-season with 3,262 yards (fourth-most in Big South history) and 28 touchdowns, and paced the conference in total offense with 3,454 yards and 287.8 per game. Bahar completed 254-of-384 passing attempts for a 66.1 completion percentage, had a league-high five 300-yard passing games and six 300 total offense games, and threw multiple touchdowns in a game eight times.

A finalist for the Walter Payton Award, Bahar was a three-time Big South Offensive Player of the Week honoree in 2019 and leads the conference in 11 offensive categories. He threw a touchdown pass in every game this year, and his 28 scoring strikes are the second-most in a season in league history. Bahar threw for five touchdowns against North Alabama on Nov. 9 and had four in the regular-season finale against Hampton. In six Big South games in 2019, Bahar was 104-of-153 passing (68.0 percent) for 1,655 yards and 15 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Bahar was a near-unanimous selection as he received 22 of the 23 first-place votes cast in the Offensive Player of the Year voting to finish ahead of runner-up Jadakis Bonds of Hampton. - Big South Football

  Monmouth redshirt-senior quarterback Kenji Bahar (Baltimore, Md.) has been voted the 2019 Big South Football Offensive Player of the Year, while Kennesaw State redshirt-junior linebacker Bryson Armstrong (Marietta, Ga.) has been voted the Defensive Player of the Year by the conference's head coaches and media panel, it was announced today. In addition, Campbell quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams (Atlanta, Ga.) is the Offensive Freshman of the Year, while Charleston Southern defensive back Cody Cline (Concord, N.C.) is the Defensive Freshman of the Year honoree. The Big South also announced its All-Conference first and second teams. The squads are comprised of 12 offensive and defensive players and five special teams players, plus any ties. Monmouth led the way with 17 total selections (nine first team), while Charleston Southern was second with 11 honorees (eight first team). Kennesaw State was next with eight, followed by Campbell (seven), Gardner-Webb (seven), Hampton (three), North Alabama (three) and Presbyterian (two). - Big South Football

  NOV 25 BIG SOUTH FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Monmouth running back Pete Guerriero (Lyndhurst, N.J.) recorded 306 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in the Hawks' 48-13 win over Hampton to clinch the outright Big South championship. He rushed for a career-high 240 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns, and caught two passes for 66 yards and a score. Guerriero, now just the third player in Big South history with consecutive 200-yard rushing games, scored on a career-long 81-yard run in addition to a 38-yarder, and averaged 17.0 yards per touch on the afternoon.   Monmouth University's football team, ranked 12th in the nation and Big South Conference champions, will host Holy Cross in the 2019 NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs at 12 PM on Saturday, November 30, the NCAA committee announced live on ESPNU on Sunday. "We are really excited about the fact that we will be at home at Kessler Stadium against a team we have a little bit of knowledge about because they are in our region and we have played them a number of times," said Monmouth Head Coach Kevin Callahan. "I know the team is excited about being able to play at home."

The Hawks, winners of eight straight, closed out the 2019 season with an 10-2 record and a perfect 6-0 Big South Conference mark. Over that eight-game winning streak the Hawks have outscored opponents 334-137 and is averaging 41.8 points per game. Monmouth won its first outright Big South Conference title after going 6-0 in league play. The Monmouth offense features two of the top players in the country in fifth-year senior quarterback Kenji Bahar (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) and junior running back Pete Guerriero (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) who are both on the Walter Payton Award Watch List. It will be the second time in the 27-year history of the program that Monmouth will play in the playoffs, the first coming in the 2017 season when the Hawks were selected as an at-large team.   Kenji Bahar passed for 364 yards and four touchdowns, Pete Guerriero added 240 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and Monmouth completed an undefeated league season with a 48-13 victory over Hampton on Saturday. Guerriero, the current STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week, increased his career high by three yards. He scored on runs of 81 and 38 yards and added a third touchdown on a 7-yard pass from Bahar. The Hawks (10-2, 6-0 Big South) rolled up 696 yards on offense. Bahar's four TD passes went to four teammates. Deondre Francois threw two touchdown passes for the Pirates (5-7, 1-5) but completed only three other passes in 17 total attempts.   Pete Guerriero rushed for 237 yards and three touchdowns and he added three catches for 66 yards and a score as Monmouth overpowered Campbell 47-10 on Saturday. Campbell jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Bryant Barr's 7-yard TD run, but it was all Hawks (9-2, 5-0 Big South Conference) after that. Guerriero put Monmouth ahead for good when he raced 57 yards for a score on first down, giving the Hawks a 10-7 lead. Kenji Bahar hit Lonnie Moore IV for a 36-yard score and a 17-7 lead. Colin Gary's 37-yard field goal pulled the Fighting Camels (6-4, 3-2) within 17-10 at halftime.

Guerriero didn't let up in the second half - scoring on runs of 2 and 75 yards - and adding a 50-yard TD catch from Bahar as the Hawks put the game out of reach. Behar finished 11-of-20 passing for 205 yards and two scores. Monmouth piled up 538 yards of offense, while holding Campbell to 277.   2019 WALTER PAYTON AWARD WATCHLIST ADDITION: RB Pete Guerriero, Monmouth,...Guerriero is currently second in the NCAA in total rushing yards with an already career-high 1,099 through nine games. He has churned out five 100-yard performances and his 122.1 rushing yards per game is fourth in the NCAA. Guerriero ranks in the top 20 in a number of categories including rushing touchdowns, yards per carry and all-purpose yards. The Lyndhurst, NJ native currently ranks second in Monmouth history in rushing with 3,078 yards while his 26 career touchdowns is sixth all-time.

  Kenji Bahar threw five touchdown passes and became Monmouth's all-time TD passing leader in a 49-38 win over North Alabama on Saturday. Bahar threw for 319 yards and completed 27-of-36 passing attempts. Quentin Parham and Lonnie Moore IV each caught a pair of touchdowns and Terrance Greene Jr. caught one to go along with 125 receiving yards with nine receptions. Bahar entered the game with 57 scoring passes and was one behind previous record holder Brian Boland. Bahar owns six Monmouth passing records, and with his next game played will tie Boland in that department with 44.

The Hawks (8-2, 4-0 Big South) led 14-7 at halftime and took control in the third. Devell Jones scored on 3-yard TD run to open the second half. Following a North Alabama (3-6 Independent) field goal, Bahar connected with Parham on a 61-yard scoring pass and Moore on a 21-yarder.
