  11/26/22 - J.J. McCarthyJr/2024, Michigan, 6-3, 219 (DS#4 QB) + More +

J.J. McCarthy threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score, Donovan Edwards busted the game open with two long fourth-quarter TD runs and No. 3 Michigan beat No. 2 Ohio State 45-23 Saturday, taking down the Buckeyes with stunning ease for the second straight season. Playing almost the whole game without injured star running back Blake Corum, Michigan (12-0, 9-0, No. 3 CFP) was still able to beat Ohio State (11-1, 8-1, No. 2 CFP) in Columbus for the first time since 2000. The Wolverines advance to the Big Ten championship next Saturday, with hopes for a second straight playoff appearance firmly in their control. As for the Buckeyes, they'll have to hope they can back into the CFP after again crumbling in their biggest game of the season. Jim Harbaugh and Michigan snapped an eight-game losing streak against their fiercest rivals last year. Now they have a two-game winning streak in The Game for the first time in 22 years. McCarthy, the second-year quarterback who won the starting job from incumbent Cade McNamara early in the season, played the game of his career when Michigan needed it most.

His previous longest pass completion was 42 yards, but against the Buckeyes he threw three touchdown passes of at least 45 yards, the most scoring passes of 45 or more in the history of the rivalry game. He connected on scoring passes of 69 and 75 yards to Cornelius Johnson in the first half, then hooked up with Colston Loveland in the second half for 45 yards and the freshman tight end's first career touchdown reception. Then on third-and-10 on the Ohio State 13 early in the fourth quarter, McCarthy was on the run from Zach Harrison when he lofted a pass to the end zone toward Ronnie Bell, who drew a pass interference call on safety Ronnie Hickman. That put the ball on the Ohio State 2, and three plays later the 19-year-old quarterback from suburban Chicago bowled over a tackler for another touchdown and a 31-20 Michigan lead. The Buckeyes were forced to settle for a Noah Ruggles field goal to get the score to 31-23. Edwards put the game away for Michigan. Corum's backup, who was playing with a heavily wrapped and an injured hand, raced through a hole in the right side and went 75 yards for a touchdown with 7:11 left. - Michigan/AP College Football

  11/19/22 - Jake MoodyrSr/2023, Michigan, 6-1, 209 (DS#1 K) + More +

Jake Moody made a go-ahead, 35-yard field goal with nine seconds left, lifting No. 3 Michigan to a 19-17 win over Illinois on Saturday. The Wolverines (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten, No. 3 CFP) played much of the second half without star running back Blake Corum, who grabbed his left knee after being tackled just before halftime. Michigan will now turn all its attention to playing rival and second-ranked Ohio State on the road, where they have not won since 2000 with a spot in the Big Ten champinship game and likely in the College Football Playoff at stake. The Fighting Illini (7-4, 5-3) took a 17-10 lead late in the third quarter on Chase Brown's 37-yard touchdown run.

With a chance to run out the clock, they had to punt to Michigan late in the game and failed to hold on and beat a top-three team for the first time since knocking off top-ranked Ohio State in 2007. Brown finished with 140 yards rushing and two scores on 29 carries. With Corum out and the passing game off, the Wolverines had to settle for Moody making four field goals in the second half. J.J. McCarthy was 18 of 34 for 208 yards, missing some throws and having some dropped. Corum had 108 yards rushing and his 19th touchdown this season on 18 carries with only one rushing attempt in the second half. The Heisman Trophy hopeful has 100 yards rushing in eight straight games, tying the school record with current running backs coach Mike Hart, who set the mark in 2007. - Michigan/AP College Football

  11/12/22 - Blake CorumSr/2024, Michigan, 5-08, 205 (DS#4 RB) + More +

Blake Corum ran for 162 yards and a touchdown, helping No. 3 Michigan stay undefeated with a 34-3 win over Nebraska on Saturday. The Wolverines (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten, No. 3 CFP) have won their first 10 games for the first time since 2006, when they closed the regular season as the second-ranked team with a loss to rival and top-ranked Ohio State. In two weeks, Michigan will play the Buckeyes on the road with the Big Ten East Division title and likely spot in the College Football Playoff at stake. Michigan was in control from the start against the Cornhuskers (3-7, 2-5) and opened with a 12-play, 80-yard drive that Corum capped with a 2-yard run for his 18th touchdown.

The Heisman Trophy candidate had 100-plus yards rushing - in the first half - for the seventh straight game and pulled within a game of the school record set by current running backs coach Mike Hart. J.J. McCarthy was 8 of 17 for 129 yards with two touchdown passes. McCarthy also ran for a 3-yard score late in the third, putting Michigan ahead 24-3. Nebraska started quarterback Chubba Purdy in place of Casey Thompson, who missed a second straight game with an elbow injury, and he left the game in the second quarter after appearing to injure his right ankle. Logan Smothers filled in and after fumbling a snap, the Cornhuskers settled for a field goal and 14-3 score. Purdy was 6 of 12 for 56 yards and ran for a team-high 39 yards. Smothers was 4 of 8 for 15 yards for the Cornuskers, who finished with just 146 yards of offense. - Michigan/AP College Football

  11/05/22 - J.J. McCarthyJr/2024, Michigan, 6-3, 219 (DS#4 QB) + More +

J.J. McCarthy threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and No. 4 Michigan rallied from its first halftime deficit of the season to beat Rutgers 52-17 on Saturday night. Running back Blake Corum had two short TD runs and linebacker Michael Barrett intercepted two passes in a big third quarter, returning the second one 31 yards for a touchdown as Michigan (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten, No. 5 CFP) matched its best start since 2016. The Wolverines' defense played a major role in the comeback, picking off Rutgers freshman quarterback Gavin Wimsatt three times in third quarter while holding the Scarlet Knights (4-5, 1-5) scoreless.

Timmy Ward scored on a 7-yard return of a blocked punt, Jude McAtamney kicked a 32-yard field goal and Wimsatt threw a 3-yard TD pass to Sean Ryan to give the 25-point underdog Scarlet Knights a 17-14 halftime edge. It didn't prevent Rutgers from losing its 36th straight game to a ranked opponent, and eighth in a row to Michigan. The Wolverines wiped out the lead with a 21-point blitz early in the third quarter fueled by Barrett, who had never had an interception at Michigan. McCarthy hit Donovan Edwards with a go-ahead, 14-yard TD pass with 8:24 left in the quarter. On the second play from scrimmage after that, Barrett stepped in front of Wimsatt's pass to Ryan and returned it to the 10-yard line. Corum scored from 2 yards out for a 28-17 lead with 6:53 left. Nine seconds later, Barrett scored on his interception return and the game was all but over. The finish was delayed a few minutes while medical personnel attended to a member of the chain crew who became ill. He was taken off the field in a wheelchair. - Michigan/AP College Football

  11/05/22 - Mikey KeenerSr/2026, Michigan, 5-11, 200 (DS#33 QB) + More +

Mikey Keene passed for 219 yards and three touchdowns and RJ Harvey rushed for 151 yards and a score to lead No. 25 UCF to a 35-28 win over Memphis on Saturday. UCF (7-2, 4-1 American Athletic Conference) handed Memphis (4-5, 2-4) its fourth consecutive loss, the Tigers' longest losing streak since 2013. Keene was pressed into his first start of the season after quarterback John Rhys Plumlee suffered an injury in last weekend's upset of nationally ranked Cincinnati. Plumlee sustained a possible concussion in UCF's 25-21 victory over the Bearcats. "I haven't been playing consistently for a little bit, but nonetheless we prevailed," Keene said. "I've been preparing like I was the starter, but it's always a little bit different coming out there. We had to fight through and that's what championship teams do." Keene rallied the Knights, who were held scoreless in the third quarter, by tossing two fourth-quarter touchdowns. The first was a 13-yard pass to Kobe Hudson early in the fourth quarter for a 28-21 UCF lead.

Hudson's second TD reception of the game came after the Knights stopped the Tigers on downs at the UCF 39 in the closing minutes of the third quarter. Keene added his third TD pass - and second of the quarter - with 4:58 left by finding Javon Baker on a perfect strike to the left corner of the end zone for a 35-21 advantage. "Mikey stepped in and handled himself like a champ like we thought he would," said UCF coach Gus Malzahn. Malzahn said Plumlee, an Ole Miss transfer, could have played, but hadn't practiced much until late in the week. "I just felt real strong that we needed to go with Mikey and give (Plumlee) a little more time," Malzahn said. "It was just a gut instinct." Keene, who completed 22 of 28 passes, was aided by a UCF defense that ranks No. 1 nationally in red zone defense. The Knights held Memphis scoreless on three trips inside the UCF 10-yard line in the first half. - UCF/AP College Football

  10/29/22 - Blake CorumSr/2024, Michigan, 5-08, 205 (DS#4 RB) + More +

Blake Corum ran for 177 yards and scored twice, and Jake Moody made five field goals to help No. 4 Michigan remain unbeaten with a 29-7 win over Michigan State on Saturday night. The Wolverines (8-0, 5-0 Big Ten) scored 26 straight points after falling behind briefly late in the first quarter. The Spartans (3-5, 1-4) went 0 for 2 on fourth down in the first half. They turned it over on downs after a review of a spot and after coach Mel Tucker chose to go for it instead of kicking a short field goal to tie the game midway through the second quarter. Michigan led 13-7 at halftime and kept control in the second half, outgaining Michigan State 133-8 in the third quarter.

Moody, the reigning Lou Groza Award winner given to the nation's top place kicker, made a career-long 54-yarder for his fifth field goal to put the Wolverines ahead 22-7 early in the fourth. Corum, who started the game with an FBS-high 13 touchdowns, scored for a second time on a 4-yard run after Michigan State had trouble with a snap on a punt. With a 29-7 lead in the final minutes, coach Jim Harbaugh showed no mercy against his in-state rival by calling for J.J. McCarthy to throw deep down the field. McCarthy was 15 of 25 for 167 yards with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Corum. Payton Thorne was 17 of 30 for 215 yards with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Keon Coleman that gave the Spartans a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter. Thorne also threw an interception late in the game. Coleman finished with five catches for 155 yards and a score. - Michigan/AP College Football

  10/29/22 - Jake GarciarSr/2026, Michigan, 6-2, 203 (DS#49 QB) + More +

Jake Garcia's two-point scoring run in the fourth overtime - the only play of the day to reach the end zone - gave Miami a 14-12 win over Virginia on Saturday. Neither team scored a touchdown in regulation. Hurricanes kicker Andres Borregales sent the game to overtime with a 20-yard field goal as the fourth quarter ended. Virginia and Miami traded field goals in each of the first two overtimes. Both missed their two-point tries in the third extra period. Then, after an incompletion by the Cavaliers, Garcia ran around the left side and dove for the pylon for the game-winning score. Miami played without quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, who was injured during last week's loss to Duke. Garcia, a redshirt freshman, started in his place and also used speedy, mobile freshman Jacurri Brown, at times. The Hurricanes' offense could not get untracked with either option behind center.

The game remained close throughout because Virginia's attack wasn't any more effective. Miami went up 3-0 at halftime, getting a 38-yard field goal from Borregales on the final play. Before that, the two teams combined for 247 total yards and 10 punts. Tied 3-3 late in the third quarter, UVa failed on four attempts from inside the 5-yard line, turning the ball over on downs when tight end Grant Misch dropped a fourth-down pass in the end zone. The Cavaliers took their first lead of the game on a 24-yard field goal by Will Bettridge with 12:11 left in the game, but Miami tied it on the final play of regulation on a 17-yard field goal to force overtime. The Cavaliers and Hurricanes are both fighting for bowl eligibility in their first seasons under new head coaches, Tony Elliott at UVa and Mario Cristobal at Miami. - AP College Football

  10/17/22 - Jack TuttlerSr/2025, Michigan, 6-3, 211 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Indiana backup quarterback Jack Tuttle announced Monday that he will transfer at the end of this season. Coach Tom Allen confirmed the news at the start of his weekly news conference, explaining the two spoke last week and that Tuttle, a team captain, would remain No. 2 on the depth chart. The 23-year-old Tuttle is in his sixth college season and has one year of eligibility remaining. "We had an open, honest talk about his time here and he has a desire to want to play his final year. I appreciate that," Allen said. "He's been a great leader for us, have a lot of love and respect for Jack. He's earned two degrees here. It's a unique situation, for sure, but I think it (staying this season) speaks to his character and what we’re all about here." The California prep star made four starts with the Hoosiers after transferring from Utah in 2019. He replaced the injured Michael Penix in the sixth game of the eight-game 2020 season and closed out that year as the starter, then started two more games - losses to No. 10 Michigan State and No. 5 Ohio State - last season. Tuttle has completed 95 of 170 passes for 819 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions during his career with the Hoosiers. Indiana (3-4, 1-3 Big Ten) has lost four in a row. The announcement comes one week after Allen fired offensive line coach and run game coordinator Darren Hiller. - AP College Football

  10/08/22 - Cornelius JohnsonrSr/2024, Michigan, 6-3, 212 (DS#35 WR) + More +

Cornelius Johnson's 29-yard touchdown catch midway through the third quarter Saturday gave No. 4 Michigan the lead and the jolt it needed to pull away from Indiana 31-10 in an emotional game in which a Wolverines' coach was taken to a hospital. Michigan improved to 6-0 for the second straight season, the first time they've achieved that feat since 1976-77. Johnson's big play came after assistant coach Mike Hart was carted off the field in the first quarter for an undisclosed medical issue. Hart went down unexpectedly after Indiana tied the score at 7. Many Wolverines players dropped to one knee while coach Jim Harbaugh and other assistants watched trainers tend to Michigan's running game coordinator. The emotional toll appeared to hurt the defending Big Ten champs, who went into the locker room tied at 10 with the Hoosiers (3-3, 1-2).

But after hearing Hart talk to the team at halftime, the Wolverines (3-0 Big Ten) promised to win the game for their coach — and they didn't disappoint. The first of Johnson's two TD receptions capped Michigan's 98-yard drive to open the second-half and the defense only allowed 29 total yards over the final two quarters until Indiana's final drive. Luke Schoonmaker and Johnson caught fourth-quarter TD passes to seal it. J.J. McCarthy was 28 of 36 with 304 yards, three TDs and one interception. Schoonmaker caught nine passes for 67 yards and Blake Corum had 124 yards rushing on 25 carries after picking up 50 on his first run of the day. Corum also scored on a 1-yard run just five plays into the game. - Michigan/AP College Football
