Isaiah Newell ran for the go-ahead touchdown with 8:11 remaining, and No. 22 Oregon State took advantage of critical mistakes in the fourth quarter by No. 10 Oregon to rally for a 38-34 victory on Saturday. The Beavers (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12, No 21 CFP) trailed 31-10 late in the third quarter and 34-17 early in the fourth, but the Ducks (9-3, 7-2, No. 9 CFP) gave their rivals a short field on three consecutive possessions, leading to touchdowns. First, Oregon gave up a 48-yard kickoff return by Silas Bolden, and a facemask penalty set up Oregon State at the Ducks 36. Newell ran for a 15-yard touchdown to make it 34-24. Next, Oregon punter Alex Bales dropped the snap and fell on the ball at his own 2. Two plays later, Ben Gulbranson pounded it in from 1 yard to get Oregon State within 34-31.

Oregon then went for it on fourth-and-1 at its own 29, and quarterback Bo Nix was stopped for a 1-yard loss on the Ducks' only called QB run of the game. Newell scored four plays later, with a convoy of blockers helping to push him into the end zone from 6 yards out. The Ducks can still make the Pac-12 championship game but needed Washington State to beat rival Washington later Saturday. If Washington wins, No. 14 Utah would advance to the title game against No. 5 Southern California. Oregon State ran for 268 yards and five touchdowns, overcoming its lack of a passing game. Damien Martinez led the way with 103 yards on 15 carries. Ben Gulbanson was just 6 of 13 for 60 yard with two interceptions, but he ran for two scores. Newell scored on his only two carries of the game. Nix passed for 327 yards and two touchdowns and Oregon finished with 470 total yards, but Nix's inability to run was a major factor. - Oregon State/AP College Football

Damien Martinez ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns in No. 25 Oregon State's 31-7 win over Arizona State on Saturday. The Beavers (8-3, 5-3 Pac-12) won for just the second time at ASU since 1972; they were 1-19 on the road against the Sun Devils going into the game. The Sun Devils (3-8, 2-6) played their final home game of the season, falling to 2-6 under interim coach Shaun Aguano, who replaced Herm Edwards on Sept. 20. The Beavers dominated, especially in the second half. They had 28 first downs to Arizona State's 13. Oregon State quarterback Ben Gulbrandson threw a touchdown pass and was 15 of 21 for 188 yards passing. His 8-yard touchdown run on a quarterback draw on third-and goal made it 28-7 Oregon State with 10 seconds left in the third quarter.

Arizona State went 67 yards in seven plays, keyed by Xazavian Valladay's 39-yard run. Valladay ran 11 yards 1:53 to play in the first half to make it 7-7. Valladay finished with 109 yards in 13 carries. But Gulbrandson connected with tight end Jack Velling for a 21-yard touchdown with 1:06 to go in the first half to put Oregon State ahead 14-7. The 75-yard drive took 45 seconds and four plays, two of them to a wide-open Velling. Martinez ran for a 12-yard touchdown to cap a 10-play drive to start the second half for Oregon State. Gulbranson has thrown for 1,005 yards and eight TDs with one interception and two rushing touchdowns since replacing injured starter Chance Nolan (neck) for the Beavers' last six games. Trent Bourguet, who came out of last week's loss at Washington State with a leg injury, started for the Sun Devils and was 20 of 32 for 122 yards. He ran eight times for 26 yards. - Oregon State/AP College Football

2022 ALL-PSAC EASTERN DIVISION SECOND TEAM: DL David Blay, West Chester, R-Fr.,...Blay is one of the young defensive linemen up front that Zwaan is very excited about. He makes his initial appearance on an all-league team. However, the coaching staff believes there are many more accolades coming his way in the near future. He finished sixth on the team in tackles with 38. He recorded 13 tackles for a loss, including five sacks. He was credited with four QB hurries and also forced a fumble.   Miami's Kamren Kinchens intercepted three passes against Georgia Tech, making him the fourth FBS player with at least three picks in a game. He ran back the third one 99 yards for a touchdown, the second-longest pick-6 of the season behind John Torchio's 100-yarder for Wisconsin against Illinois State on Sept. 3. - AP College Football

Kamren Kinchens had three of Miami's four interceptions and scored on a 99-yard pick-six, freshman quarterback Jacurri Brown filled in for Tyler Van Dyke and passed for three touchdowns, and the Hurricanes routed Georgia Tech 35-14 on Saturday. Jaylan Knighton ran 16 times for 118 yards and Brown added 87 yards rushing for Miami (5-5, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), which broke out of its recent offensive doldrums to net 362 yards, 262 on the ground. Freshman quarterback Zach Pyron, starting in Jeff Sims' spot for the second straight game, was 12 of 21 passing for Georgia Tech (4-6, 3-4). Zach Gibson, a transfer from Akron, took charge of the offense on the first drive of the fourth quarter with Pyron injured late in the third and quickly threw a deep interception to Kinchens on his second pass that all but ended any remaining suspense in the game.

Brown took charge from there, directing an eight-play, 51-yard drive that ended with Colbie Young catching an 8-yard TD that made it 21-7 with 7:52 remaining. Brown finished 14 of 19 passing for 136 yards. Kinchens, a sophomore cornerback, ran back a pick of Gibson the distance late in the fourth to make it 35-7. It hardly mattered that the Hurricanes were without Van Dyke, the reigning ACC offensive rookie of the year who missed the game with a shoulder injury, and starting running back Henry Parrish Jr., who was didn't play because of an undisclosed injury. Miami had plenty of firepower to handle Georgia Tech. Making his first career collegiate start, Brown connected with Will Mallory on the right side for a 22-yard touchdown that made it 7-0 on the opening possession. It was the Hurricanes' first touchdown in nine-plus quarters, a span of 138 minutes. Tyrique Stevenson intercepted Pyron on a deep ball at the Miami 9 late in the third. Kinchens picked off Pyron at the Miami 3 midway through the first and one possession later, Jaleel Skinner caught a 4-yard pass on the right side to make it 14-0 with 9:26 to go in the second and end a 14-play, 93-yard drive that consumed 7:31. - Miami/AP College Football

  11/05/22 - Cam WardrSr/2025, Miami + More +

Cameron Ward threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third, Nakia Watson rushed for 166 yards and a score and Washington State snapped a three-game losing streak with a 52-14 victory against Stanford on Saturday. The Cougars (5-4, 2-4 Pac-12) scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and then put the game away with two more TDs in the final 2:09 of the first half. Jaden Hicks also returned a fumble 17 yards for a score in the second quarter as Washington State used four takeaways and 306 yards rushing to get over the frustration of the losing streak. Ward threw for 176 yards with a 7-yard TD pass to Anderson Grover and a 9-yarder to Donovan Ollie on fourth-and-3. Ward also had a 15-yard TD run.

Tanner McKee threw for 236 yards and backup QB Ashton Daniels ran for two scores but Stanford (3-6, 1-6) kept giving the ball away and lost for the sixth straight time to the Cougars. Watson set the tone for Washington State, rushing for 65 yards on the second play from scrimmage to set up Leyton Smithson 3-yard TD run and then scoring on a 41-yard run on the Cougars final play of the half following a fumble by Benjamin Yurosek that made it 42-7. The Cardinal lost six of their first seven conference games for the first time since 2006 - the year before Jim Harbaugh arrived on The Farm to turn Stanford into a contender. But after a long run of success under Harbaugh and current coach David Shaw, things have turned in recent years and Stanford hasn't won more than four games in a season since going 9-4 in 2018. - Washington State/AP College Football

The long-awaited debut of Tyler Harrell with Alabama football didn't come with much fanfare. He checked into the Mississippi State game late in the second half with the Crimson Tide holding a sizable lead. Harrell saw six snaps and caught one pass for 12 yards. Harrell, the transfer receiver from Louisville, started the season dealing with a lower-body injury. "It's unfortunate the guy missed a lot of time because of an injury," Nick Saban said Monday at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club. "He is making a lot of progress. He does offer something with his speed. That is always something that can benefit you on offense. Want him to continue to improve and hopefully we can create roles for him down the road here that is going to be effective for him and for us."

His debut has been anticipated because of the speed Saban mentioned. Harrell averaged a whopping 29.1 yards per catch in 2021 with Louisville as he caught 18 passes for 523 yards and six touchdowns. The speed was on full display when Harrell ran a 4.24 40-yard dash at Louisville's pro day. That's not far off the NFL Combine record, which is 4.22. This year, Alabama hasn't had a player scare defenses with speed like Jameson Williams did a year ago as he caught 79 receptions for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns. - Montgomery Advertiser

OCT 24 PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Damien Martinez, Fr., RB, Oregon State (Lewisville, Texas),...Topped 100 yards for the second consecutive game, totaling 178 rushing with 3 touchdowns to lead Oregon State to a win over Colorado, and giving the Beavers bowl eligibility. 178 yards mark the 3rd-best single-game total by a Pac-12 running back this season. Per PFF, 60 of his 178 yards came after contact. The 3 touchdowns, meanwhile, are tied for the single-game high in the conference in 2022. Had 3 carries of 20 or more yards, including a game-high 40-yard rush. Of his 22 carries in the game, 3 went for touchdowns and additional 10 went for first downs. Martinez has 372 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns over his last 3 games. He's carried the ball 41 times over that stretch, averaging 9.07 yards per carry. The freshman now has an OSU-best 517 rush yards on 79 carries this season, an average of 6.54 per rush. He's also scored five rushing touchdowns. Only the 2nd Oregon State player to win this award since it was created in 2019. LB Omar Speights brought it home in Week 10 of 2019. Also nominated: Ernest Cooper, EDGE, Stanford; Jordan James, RB, Oregon. - Pac-12 Football
