  12/01/23 - Cam WardrSr/2025, Miami, 6-2, 219 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward became the latest big name quarterback to announce plans to enter the transfer portal on Friday. Ward posted on social media that he will be evaluating his prospects for the NFL draft while also entering his name in the portal as a grad transfer. Ward was fourth in the country throwing for for 3,736 yards and 25 touchdowns this season for the Cougars. But it was a tumultuous season for Washington State that started with the school being left out in the latest round of conference realignment, included a 4-0 start and was followed by a six-game losing streak.

Ward was at the center of praise for Washington State's hot start but also criticism for the losing streak that cost the Cougars a chance at a bowl game. Washington State's season ended last week with a 24-21 loss to rival Washington. If Ward stays in college this will be his second transfer. He started his career at FCS school Incarnate Word, where he threw for 4,648 yards and 47 touchdowns in the 2021 season. Ward arrived in Pullman before the 2022 season and threw for 3,232 yards and 23 touchdowns in his first season with the Cougars. - AP College Football

  11/30/23 - Rueben Bain Jr.Jr/2027, Miami, 6-3, 270 (DS#3 DE) + More +

2023 ACC DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Rueben Bain, Jr., Miami,...Bain recorded at least one tackle in 11 games through the regular season for the Hurricanes. In back-to-back weeks in October, Bain recorded 15 total tackles and four sacks in ACC play, including a career-high eight stops against Clemson. One week later, Bain logged a career-high 2.5 tackles-for-loss in the Canes' win over Virginia. The freshman earned back-to-back ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for the strong showings.

Bain is one of just 11 players and the only freshman in the nation to have multiple individual performances of at least two sacks this year. Throughout his freshman campaign, Bain has totaled a team-best 7.5 sacks, good for a fourth-place tie in the ACC, and 9.5 tackles-for-loss. His 7.5 sacks are tied for the most among all freshmen in FBS. Bain is also tied for the Miami lead with a pair of forced fumbles. Bain helped anchor the stingy front line for the Hurricanes, which has given up the second-fewest rushing yards among ACC teams. Miami finished the regular season ranked 12th nationally in run defense, allowing just 97.1 yards per game on the ground. - ACC Football

  02/14/23 - Carson BeckrSr/2026, Miami, 6-4, 225 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Mike Bobo reclaimed the offensive coordinator job at Georgia on Tuesday, with Todd Monken leaving the two-time defending national champions for the NFL. Bobo, a former Bulldogs quarterback and longtime assistant coach at his alma mater, also served as offensive coordinator under former coach Mark Richt. The 48-year-old Bobo has some big shoes to fill. Monken accepted the offensive coordinator job with the Baltimore Ravens after serving on a staff that guided Georgia to back-to-back national titles. The Bulldogs averaged 38.6 points per game in 2021 and 41.1 this past season while finishing 15-0, capped by a record-breaking 65-7 blowout of TCU in the national championship game.

Monken's three-season stint with the Bulldogs will be remembered for the stunning rise of quarterback Stetson Bennett from walk-on to Heisman Trophy finalist. "We are extremely thankful and appreciative of the three years Todd and his wife, Terri, have spent with our UGA family," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. "We wish them the best as he moves on to the Ravens organization." Bobo, who had head coaching stints at Colorado State and South Carolina after leaving Georgia following the 2014 season, returned to his alma mater a year ago as a quality control analyst for the offense. "Mike was an excellent addition to our staff last year as an analyst, and we are looking forward to his expanded leadership on the offensive side of the ball," Smart said. Bobo takes over an offense with some major holes to fill, most notably at quarterback with Bennett's departure. Carson Beck, who got limited playing time the last two years as a backup, is expected to take over the job. But he'll have to beat out Brock Vandagriff, one of the top-rated QBs in the 2021 recruiting class, and Gunner Stockton, another touted prospect who has yet to play at the college level. - AP College Football

  01/18/23 - Cam McCormickrSr/2025, Miami, 6-5, 248 (DS#58 TE) + More +

Former Oregon Ducks tight end Cam McCormick is reuniting with coach Mario Cristobal. McCormick, who entered the transfer portal last week, announced his commitment to Miami on Sunday. McCormick finished with 10 catches for 66 yards and three touchdowns last season, his first without injury since 2017. He will be entering his eighth season and have two years of eligibility remaining.

The winner of this year's Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award, McCormick endured a series of injuries during his career at UO, where he was the longest-tenured football player of all-time. He was one of three UO players hospitalized with rhabdomyolysis following overly strenuous workouts in January 2017, then missed nearly all of the 2018-21 seasons with a broken left ankle that required three surgeries and a torn right Achilles. He graduated with his bachelor's and master's degrees. - The Oregonian

  01/16/23 - Tyler HarrellrSr/2024, Miami, 6-0, 193 (DS#55 WR) + More +

Alabama wide receiver Tyler Harrell entered the NCAA transfer portal on Saturday, he announced on Twitter. Harrell has a sixth season of eligibility available for 2023 after transferring last year to Alabama from Louisville, where he played his first four seasons from 2018-21. Billed for his speed after averaging 29.1 yards and scoring six touchdowns on his 18 catches in 2021, Harrell arrived at Alabama with high expectations similar to the other four players the Tide added through the transfer portal last offseason. But Harrell never materialized into the explosive receiving option Alabama desired. He suffered a foot injury during preseason camp that lingered into October and impacted his ability to see the field.

"It was definitely a learning experience for me, coming from the SEC from the ACC," Harrell said in the locker room after last month's Sugar Bowl, the only time he was available to speak to reporters while at Alabama. "My expectation was high hopes, but unfortunately when I injured myself, it kind of set me back a little bit, and kind of lingered throughout the season. I tried to play through it. It just wasn't clicking, for real." Harrell made his debut late in a blowout Oct. 22 win over Mississippi State, then appeared briefly in four other regular-season games. At one point in November, Nick Saban said Harrell was healthy and expressed how Alabama needed to find ways to use his speed. But that never happened, and Harrell finished with two catches for 18 yards. - Birmingham News

  01/14/23 - Tyler HarrellrSr/2024, Miami, 6-0, 193 (DS#55 WR) + More +

Alabama football receiver Tyler Harrell has entered the transfer portal, he announced Saturday. Harrell transferred to the Crimson Tide from Louisville ahead of the 2022 season but played sparingly as he dealt with a foot injury at times during the season. He is the fifth Alabama receiver to enter the transfer portal this season.

Harrell didn't see the field until the Mississippi State game in late October. In that game, he saw six snaps and caught one pass for 12 yards. Over the course of the season, he received 33 snaps per Pro Football Focus. Harrell finished the year with two receptions for 18 yards. Harrell's addition was met with optimism considering the speed he was known to bring. At the Louisville Pro Day, he was hand-timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.19 seconds and officially clocked at 4.24. The record at the NFL Combine is 4.22. - The Tuscaloosa News

  01/12/23 - Cam McCormickrSr/2025, Miami, 6-5, 248 (DS#58 TE) + More +

Cam McCormick's career at Oregon is over after seven seasons. The tight end isn't done playing college football, however. McCormick, whose injury-plagued career as a Duck has made him eligible for two more seasons, announced Tuesday on social media that he is entering the transfer portal. "I came to Eugene at 17 years old and grew up in front of you all," McCormick wrote. "It's time for me to spread my wings and continue my journey elsewhere."

McCormick came to Oregon from Summit High School in Bend in 2016. He had 10 catches for 66 yards and three touchdowns this season - his first full year without injury since 2017. He missed all or part of the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons after needing three surgeries to repair an injured ankle. He played two games in 2021 before an injury at Ohio State ended his season. - Register Guard

The Hurricanes added crucial depth on the offensive line through the transfer portal on Sunday evening. After visiting Coral Gables over the weekend, Matt Lee, a center from Central Florida, announced his commitment to Miami on Twitter. Lee, an Oviedo native, chose the Hurricanes over Oklahoma. Lee, who posted on Twitter that he had two years of eligibility remaining, was not a highly touted prospect coming out of high school. He was rated a three-star prospect and the No. 171 tackle in the 2019 class in 247Sports' composite rankings. - Sun Sentinel

In the age of the NCAA transfer portal essentially serving as college football's free agency, expectations will be high any time a team pursues and adds a player from outside of its program. That was the case last offseason when Alabama picked up Louisville wide receiver Tyler Harrell and LSU cornerback Eli Ricks from the portal, signaling both could play big roles in 2022. For both players and especially Harrell, it never fully came together. Harrell suffered a foot injury in the preseason that kept him out until midseason, and his playing time was scarce after that. Ricks remained on the sideline until he earned a starting role in October, then missed time in November because of a concussion.

Ricks, a junior, and Harrell, a fifth-year senior, both addressed their futures after Saturday's Sugar Bowl, which requires its postgame locker room to be open to reporters. It was the first time either had been allowed to speak to reporters since arriving at Alabama. The question was posed to both: will they return in 2023? "Still debating," Harrell responded. "We're gonna see." "I'm gonna speak to my coach first. I'm about to speak to him right now actually," Ricks answered. "So we'll know pretty soon. We'll know by the next coming days - today or tomorrow, probably." - Birmingham News

  12/19/22 - Cam McCormickrSr/2025, Miami, 6-5, 248 (DS#58 TE) + More +

The longest-tenured Oregon Ducks player might return for an eighth season. Tight end Cam McCormick, who has nine catches for 64 yards and three touchdowns entering the Holiday Bowl, said he's undecided about whether to return to UO or pursue the NFL. He also acknowledged being granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA due to his torn right Achilles in 2021. "I've thought about it; it's a tough decision," McCormick said after Friday's practice. "I'm not totally keen on what my decision is going to be yet. I'm going to continue to enjoy this game with my teammates and make the decision after the game...I couldn't imagine doing nine. If anything, I applied for it just to have it after Ohio State last year. I tore my Achilles and thankfully was able to get it. The option's there, I do have it. Whether I use it, it's in the air. Thinking about returning for a year eight." If McCormick pursues a pro career now, he is unlikely to receive an invite to this year's NFL combine and would most likely be an undrafted free agent.

If not on an active roster, NFL players signed to practice squads will earn $12,000 per week in 2023. It's possible for players to earn more from name, image and likeness compensation while in college. If he returns to UO, McCormick, who has already earned his bachelor's and master's degrees, said he'd likely take classes in business or yoga or pursue internships to fulfill the academic requirements. He acknowledged the financial, practical and academic realities that will factor into his decision. "Coach (Dan) Lanning is doing a lot of great things, bringing in a lot of great people," McCormick said. "The guys here are great. It's a lot on my mind. It's stressing me out. But it's a good decision to have, that I at least have a decision to make." - The Oregonian
