A redshirt freshman offensive lineman on the Michigan football team who announced in December plans to enter the NCAA's transfer portal is leaving. But he's remaining in the Big Ten. Zach Carpenter, who started two games at center this season for the Wolverines, said Thursday night that he plans on transferring to Indiana. "Excited to start a new opportunity as a Hoosier!," the 6-foot-5, 329-pound lineman wrote on Twitter. Carpenter also used the Hoosiers' mantra "LEO" ("love each other") and tagged Indiana head coach Tom Allen and offensive line coach Darren Hiller. - Ann Arbor News

University of Miami junior leading rusher Cam'Ron Harris has reaffirmed his devotion to the Hurricanes and announced Friday on Twitter that he will return for next season rather than enter the NFL Draft. Harris, who started and ended the season strong for the Hurricanes but struggled on and off in between, posted on social media in late October that he was "disrespected" after subpar performance against Clemson, Pittsburgh and Virginia.

But Harris will be back for at least one more year. The NCAA has granted every player an extra year of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic, although Harris still had eligibility remaining. The former consensus four-star prospect was rated the nation's seventh-best running back out of Miami Carol City High and became Miami's featured tailback this season after DeeJay Dallas was drafted in the fourth round by the Seattle Seahawks. Harris has run for 643 yards and a team-leading 10 touchdowns on 126 carries in 11 games this season, averaging 5.1 yards a carry. - Miami Herald

The redshirt junior, who is a finalist for Ray Guy Award honoring nation's top punter, also earned second-team All-ACC recognition this year. The Mandurah, Australia native ranked No. 2 in FBS during the regular season in punting (47.3 yards per punt). Hedley helped lead Miami to an FBS-leading net punting average of 44.98 during the regular season. He had a long punt of 60 yards and posted 19 punts of 50-or-more yards. - Miami Football

Miami quarterback D'Eriq King tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Hurricanes' loss this week in the Cheez-It Bowl. The Hurricanes said Thursday an MRI a day earlier confirmed the tear. King will have surgery in the coming days and the Hurricanes expect him to be ready for training camp - which will begin about seven months after the ligament is repaired. Tennessee senior outside linebacker Deandre Johnson has decided to use his extra year of eligibility allotted by the NCAA amid this coronavirus pandemic, but it won't be in Knoxville. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder from Miami entered the NCAA transfer portal and will play elsewhere in 2021 as a graduate transfer. Johnson earned his degree earlier this month. Johnson racked up 28 tackles, six tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles this season for the Volunteers, who had a disappointing 3-7 record and had to withdraw from the Liberty Bowl due to a spike in COVID cases.
