  05/04/22 - Henry ChibuezeSr/2023, Maryland, 6-3, 324 (DS#131 DT) + More +

The Liberty football program has thrived in finding players in the transfer portal who can make immediate impacts. The likes of Anthony Butler, Storey Jackson and others immediately come to mind. The Flames felt the impact of losing key pieces to the transfer portal Wednesday afternoon. Nose guard Henry Chibueze, running back Troy Henderson and defensive tackle Karsen Perkins announced in social media posts they each were entering the transfer portal. Chibueze is the biggest loss for the Flames. He was projected to start at nose guard this upcoming season after being in the defensive line rotation in 2021 and finishing with 18 tackles (six solo), 2.5 tackles for a loss and two sacks. - Lynchburg News and Advance

  04/28/22 - Quashon FullerrSr/2025, Maryland, 6-3, 245 (DS#61 DE) + More +

Florida State defensive end Quashon Fuller has entered the transfer portal, becoming the latest player to leave the program since the end of spring football camp. The redshirt sophomore was one of nine four-star prospects to sign as part of FSU's 2019 recruiting class, ranking No. 19 according to 247Sports composite rankings. He's not listed on the team's roster page. Fuller is the 10th signee from that 2019 class to leave the program and the sixth overall player since the spring semester joining running back Corey Wren, receiver Jordan Young, tight end Koby Gross, linebacker Jadarius Green-McKnight and cornerbacks Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and Hunter Washington. He appeared in 17 games for the Seminoles, totaling 11 career tackles, including 3 tackles for loss and a sack. He had a career-high 3 tackles in each of the losses to Notre Dame and Florida; this last season and his only sack came in the season opener against the Fighting Irish. - Orlando Sentinel

  04/21/22 - Jacob CopelandrSr/2023, Maryland, 5-11, 201 (DS#35 WR) + More +

In 2018, wide receiver Jacob Copeland was thrown into the spotlight before playing a single snap at the college level. During his commitment ceremony at Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida, when he chose Florida over Alabama and Tennessee, his mother, Betty, promptly walked away from the table in apparent displeasure with her son's decision. The moment became a viral sensation on social media. Copeland, who transferred to Maryland after four seasons at Florida, is still remembered for that moment, though he admitted he tries not to think about it. Copeland knows it was just miscommunication between him and his mother, and he leaves it at that. "There were rumors about certain things, but there was never any bad blood between me and my momma," he said. "I was raised by my momma in a house with my six brothers. The internet is going to talk, but the inside people know what really went on." Even though Copeland, a junior, garnered attention early, he is not the type of person who wants to be the center of it.

When he entered the transfer portal in December, he could've gone to a school where he would have been a No. 1 wideout. Instead, he came to College Park, hoping to fit in and add to Maryland's already talented wide receivers room, which has the potential to be one of the best in the Big Ten Conference. "Why go somewhere and be just the guy?" said Copeland, a former four-star recruit. "I can go somewhere and be with the guys, and when we go against defenses, they're like, 'How are we going to pick our poison?" Copeland had 84 catches for 1,331 yards and nine touchdowns at Florida, including a team-high 642 yards and four touchdowns on 41 receptions in 11 starts last season. - Baltimore Sun

  12/29/22 - Taulia TagovailoarSr/2024, Maryland, 5-11, 185 (DS#12 QB) + More +

Taulia Tagovailoa raised the MVP trophy over his head as confetti fluttered around him and could only think, not of his near-flawless dominance in the Bronx, but of the words of his Maryland coach. The best is ahead. Tagovailoa threw touchdown passes of 70 and 32 yards to Darryl Jones, Tarheeb Still returned a punt 92 yards for a touchdown, and the sudden scores sparked Maryland to a 54-10 rout of Virginia Tech in the Pinstripe Bowl on Wednesday.

The game belonged to Tagovailoa, an Alabama transfer and the younger brother of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He was 20 of 24 for 265 yards, and the two TD passes brought his season total to 26, which tied Maryland's single-season record. "I hope it quiets some of the critics and he gets some of the respect he deserves as a quarterback," coach Mike Locksley said. "We wouldn't be in this situation we're in with a winning season without Taulia." Locksley preached patience in the form of his mantra, the best is ahead. Tagovailoa, who had already announced he would return to the Terps next season, showed enough flashes of greatness in New York to hint the future may be bright. The game's MVP, Tagovailoa helped the Terrapins (7-6) get the better of the Hokies at Yankee Stadium - and even on TV. - Maryland/AP College Football
