Maryland junior running back Javon Leake declared for the NFL Draft Wednesday, forgoing his final year of eligibility. "From the day I stepped foot on campus and into the Maryland locker room, I knew something special was in my future," said Leake. "The friendships I have created along my journey with my teammates is something I will cherish forever. Thank you Terp Nation, you all mean the world to me. Now it's time for me to begin a new chapter!" Leake was a prolific rusher and kick returner during his time in College Park, tallying 1,487 kick return yards and 1,144 rushing yards, reaching the end zone 20 times over three seasons. His 1,487 kick return yards are the fifth-most in program history, passing Maryland legend Stefon Diggs in his last game as a Terp.

"Javon proved to be one of our most talented and hardest working players this season," said head coach Michael Locksley. "He has big play ability and is smart, tough and reliable. I'm excited to see him showcase his talents in the NFL." This season, Leake was named the Rodgers-Dwight Big Ten Return Specialist of the Year after he led the conference in kick return yards (804), kick return average (26.8) and kick return touchdowns (two). The junior's three career kick return touchdowns are tied with Torrey Smith ('10) for the most in program history. As a rusher, Leake posted 736 yards on 102 carries, a 7.22 yards per carry average, the third-highest among all FBS running backs, while also scoring eight touchdowns. A Big Ten Honorable Mention selection as a rusher, Leake recorded 100-yard games against Syracuse and Indiana, scoring four touchdowns in those two games. - Maryland Football

Maryland sophomore running back Anthony McFarland Jr. will forgo his remaining eligibility and enter his name in the NFL Draft, he announced on Tuesday. "I can't thank everyone at Maryland enough for the last three years," said McFarland. "The future is bright under Coach Locks. I know my brothers are going to do some special things in the coming years for our amazing fans in College Park. Terp For Life!" McFarland tallied 1,648 rushing yards in just two seasons as a Terp, the 21st most in program history. The DMV product averaged 6.7 yards per carry on 245 attempts, good for the third-best average in Maryland ranks, trailing only Chet Hanulak ('53) and Ty Johnson ('18). The two-year back tallied 12 rushing touchdowns over 23 games and six 100-yard games, tied for the ninth-most in program history.

A 2018 Second Team All-Big Ten selection, McFarland starred in his redshirt freshman season in College Park, setting Maryland freshman records for rushing yards (1,034), most rushing yards in a game (298 vs. Ohio State) and most 100-yard rushing games (four). His 1,034 rushing yards in 2018 ranked as the ninth-most in a season in program history and his yards per carry mark ranked fifth in the nation. With the 298 yard game vs. Ohio State and a 210 yard game the week before at Indiana, McFarland became only the second Maryland player ever to record back-to-back 200-yard games. - Maryland Football

Maryland running back Anthony McFarland Jr. will forgo his remaining two seasons of eligibility to declare for the NFL draft, he announced Tuesday. "I want to start by thanking the great coaching staff and amazing fans at this wonderful University," McFarland wrote in a statement he posted on Twitter. "In addition, thank you to my teammates. You are my brothers and I am blessed to have made deep relationships with many of you that will last a lifetime."

McFarland, a redshirt sophomore, struggled with a nagging ankle injury all season, but still showed his ability to generate explosive plays.
