  Blanton Creque's 41-yard field goal with 1:02 remaining edged Louisville past Boston College for a wild 41-39 victory on Saturday that ended a nine-game Atlantic Coast Conference losing streak. Shortly after Aaron Boumerhi's 45-yard field goal with 3:32 left put the Eagles ahead 39-38, the Cardinals (3-2, 1-1) drove 52 yards in eight plays for Creque's line drive that sailed through the uprights. BC (3-3, 1-2) drove to its 42 before turning the ball over on downs with two seconds left, sparking a celebration as Louisville emerged from the shootout with its first conference win since beating Syracuse in November 2017.

The schools combined for 1,227 yards, most of it passing in a contest that matched the ACC's top two rushing attacks. Louisville gained the edge 664-563, helped by those final yards ending with Creque's second field goal. Cardinals freshman Evan Conley completed 10 of 16 passes for 140 yards and a 23-yard TD to Dez Fitzpatrick for 38-29 lead early in the fourth quarter. He alternated with Micale Cunningham, who was 13 of 18 passing for 288 yards and 59-yard TD.   No starting quarterback, no problem for the Louisville Cardinals in their 38-21 victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday in a neutral-site nonconference game at Nissan Stadium. Louisville announced prior to kickoff that starting quarterback Jawon Pass would miss the game due to a foot injury. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Malik Cunningham directed four first-half scoring drives before leaving in the third quarter following a hit to the head. True freshman Evan Conley finished up and threw a 62-yard touchdown pass on his second throw of the game as the Cardinals (2-1) dominated the Hilltoppers (1-2). In fact, Louisville coach Steve Satterfield hinted after the game that he would be fine playing any of the Cardinals' top three quarterbacks so long as whoever is under center moves the offense. - AP College Football

  No matter the quarterback, Tutu Atwell proved to be a big-play receiver for Louisville on Saturday. He caught four passes for 141 yards for the Cardinals, with three of the receptions going for touchdowns. Atwell caught touchdown passes of 9, 46 and 62 yards on Saturday.   Mississippi linebacker MoMo Sanogo is expected to miss about 2 1/2 months after injuring an ankle Saturday in a 31-17 victory over Arkansas. Ole Miss coach Matt Luke says Sanogo will undergo surgery Tuesday and is likely out for "roughly 10 weeks." Sanogo, a junior from Plano, Texas, recorded four tackles in the Rebels' first two games. He made 112 tackles last season to tie for fifth place among all Southeastern Conference players.   Shai Werts said the last 10 days have been the most trying of his entire life. Given what he's gone through prior, that's saying something. "It's been difficult," Werts said after a team scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 10, at Paulson Stadium in discussing his July 31 arrest on charges of misdemeanor possession of cocaine and speeding in Saluda County, South Carolina. "I stayed down and I knew that the truth was eventually going to come out. Just didn't know how long it would take. It's definitely been hard to deal with."

The truth - the substance found on the hood of Werts' car that night in Saluda County which tested positive for cocaine on the scene - was actually not cocaine. In fact, it wasn't a controlled substance of any kind, according to the Aug. 8 test results from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). "SLED received the substance and completed the drug analysis," read the official report from The Eleventh Circuit Solicitor's Office. "The forensic scientist determined that no controlled substance was detected." - Savannah Morning News

  Shai Werts, the starting quarterback for LSU's season opening opponent Georgia Southern, is back with the team after being suspended earlier in the week, according to Georgia TV station's report. WSAV-TV says Werts returned to practice on Saturday after submitting to, and passing, a drug test, but school officials say the two-year starter is still suspended for the opener against the Tigers until his case plays out, according to the Georgia Southern Student-Athlete Code of Conduct. Werts could possibly play if his misdemeanor charges are dropped, at which point it is up to the school's athletic director and school staff to determine disciplinary action. Werts was indefinitely suspended after being arrested and charged with speeding and misdemeanor possession of cocaine during a traffic stop in Saluda, South Carolina on Wednesday night. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  Georgia Southern indefinitely suspended quarterback Shai Werts on Friday after it was discovered the two-year starter was arrested for cocaine possession. The Eagles open their season Aug. 31 at LSU. On Wednesday, Werts was pulled over by police in South Carolina for speeding when they noticed a white substance on his car, according to the police report. Werts reportedly told police the substance was bird poop but later tested positive for cocaine, according to The George-Anne, Georgia Southern's student newspaper.

Werts is the Eagles' expected starter heading into the season. He was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team in 2018, when he started in all 13 games for Georgia Southern, which went 10-3 with a 23-21 win over Eastern Michigan in the Camellia Bowl. Werts rushed for 908 yards and 15 touchdowns in Georgia Southern's option offense, and he passed for 987 yards and 10 touchdowns with no interceptions. Head coach Chad Lunsford also announced Friday defensive end Quan Griffin was suspended from a separate arrest. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  A shock was delivered to Georgia Southern fans just minutes before the team officially opened fall football camp on Friday as head coach Chad Lunsford announced the arrests and subsequent suspensions of two Eagle players - most notably starting quarterback Shai Werts. "Shai was arrested Wednesday in Saluda, South Carolina," Lunsford said. "It is our understanding that he was charged with speeding and misdemeanor possession of cocaine after some residue was found on the hood of the car."

Werts came to Georgia Southern in 2016 and sat out his first season before winning the starting quarterback job as a redshirt freshman ahead of the 2017 season opener. He has started all but one game - missed due to injury in 2017 - since then and has become the leader of the Eagle offense. - Statesboro Herald

  2019 PRESEASON BUTKUS AWARD WATCH LIST: Mohamed Sanogo, Mississippi,...Sanogo is one of 51 collegiate players from across the nation to find a place on this year's watch list for the award, which honors the nation's best linebackers at three separate levels. The Plano, Texas, native is coming off a 2018 campaign in which he tallied 112 total tackles and finished third in the SEC with 9.3 tackles per game.

Sanogo joined former linebacker, DeMarquis Gates, as being the only two Rebels in the last 12 years to tally 100 or more tackles in a season. Sanogo, a preseason All-SEC selection, has appeared in 23 games in his two years at Ole Miss, including 12 starts in 2018. He tallied double-digit tackles in six contests last season and was the Rebels' leading tackler in half of the games played. - Mississippi Football
