Louisville says kicker Blanton Creque will miss the remainder of the season with a torn left anterior cruciate ligament. Creque's injury, sustained while attempting a tackle late in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 28-21 victory against Virginia, also ends the collegiate career of the Cardinals' most accurate kicker (82.3%). The senior will undergo surgery in the next couple of weeks. Creque made 8 of 11 field goals and all 33 extra-point attempts for 57 points this season. His 51 field goals on 62 attempts and 310 career points both rank third in program history. Creque's 41-yard field goal that helped Louisville edge Boston College 41-39 on Oct. 5 was one of two game-winners with the Cardinals. With Heisman Trophy-winning predecessor Lamar Jackson observing, Louisville quarterback Micale Cunningham showed his own ability for creating excitement with his arm and feet. Cardinals running back Javian Hawkins and an opportunistic defense also made their marks in a hard-earned victory over Virginia. Cunningham and Hawkins accounted for two touchdowns apiece, including one each in the fourth quarter, and Louisville made a final defensive stand to hold off the Cavaliers 28-21 on Saturday.

Getting there required rallying twice, including a 14-7 halftime deficit in which the Cardinals (5-3, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) started Cunningham for one quarter before switching to freshman Evan Conley in the second for a different pace. Cunningham was back in the pocket after halftime and delivered a Jackson-like clutch performance. The sophomore completed 6 of 10 passes for 126 yards, most coming on a shovel pass to Tutu Atwell for a 77-yard touchdown that marked career bests for both players and a season high for Louisville. Kevin Perkins ran for his first two touchdowns as a Golden Eagle and the Southern Miss defense smothered Rice 20-6 on Saturday. Perkins gave Southern Miss a 10-0 halftime lead with a 2-yard run to cap a 10-play, 67-yard drive. He added a 38-yarder up the middle with 32 seconds left in the game. The Owls (0-8, 0-4 Conference USA) managed only 8 yards rushing and 131 in the air. The Golden Eagles (5-3, 3-1) had a season-high eight sacks, led by Jacques Turner with 3 1/2. Andrew Stein kicked field goals of 23 and 34 yards, improving to 12 of 14 this season. Jack Abraham was 23-of-36 passing for 207 yards with an interception. Ten completions went to Tim Jones for 96 yards. Evan Conley ran 41 yards for a critical touchdown with 2:15 remaining, and Louisville held off Wake Forest's late rally to upset the 19th-ranked Demon Deacons 62-59 on Saturday night in the second-highest-scoring game in Atlantic Coast Conference history. Conley also threw two touchdown passes to Dez Fitzpatrick and Hassan Hall returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score to help the Cardinals (4-2, 2-1) spoil Wake Forest's first national ranking in 11 years. The combined 121 points was second only to the 137 scored in Pittsburgh's 76-61 victory over Syracuse in 2016. The teams combined for 1,188 total yards in this one. Wake Forest (5-1, 1-1) trailed 52-31 with less than 6 1/2 minutes remaining before rallying, with backup Sam Hartman - the starter for most of 2018 - throwing two touchdown passes in 35 seconds.

He hit Scotty Washington from 22 yards before his 21-yarder with 3:37 left to Jack Freudenthal - who recovered the onside kick that set up his scoring catch. Conley took a fourth-and-1 keeper 41 yards for a touchdown to give the Cardinals a 62-52 lead with 2:52 remaining - plenty of time for the Demon Deacons to counter, with Hartman leading them 92 yards in seven plays and scoring on a 1-yard keeper with 1:10 remaining. The onside kick squirted downfield, Tutu Atwell came away with it in a pileup with 1:05 left and the Cardinals ran out the clock to seal their first big victory under new coach Scott Satterfield. Micale Cunningham threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Seth Dawkins and a 9-yarder to Atwell before leaving in the second quarter with an injury. Conley took over and finished 12 of 18 for 196 yards with touchdowns of 15 and 50 yards to Dez Fitzpatrick. Jack Plummer threw for 420 yards and three touchdowns and Cory Trice returned an interception for a score to break open the game just before halftime, helping Purdue roll past Maryland 40-14. The Boilermakers (2-4, 1-2 Big Ten) snapped a three-game losing streak with their most lopsided win since upsetting No. 2 Ohio State last October. Maryland (3-3, 1-2) still hasn't won consecutive conference road games since 2014 and never had a chance after Trice picked off Tyrrell Pigrome and scored on a 37-yard interception return with 18 seconds left in the first half to make it 30-14.

Plummer was 33 of 41, hooking up with David Bell nine times for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Brycen Hopkins caught 10 passes for 140 yards, both career bests. And all that came after coach Jeff Brohm inserted three new starters on the offensive line — Mark Stickford at left guard, Sam Garvin at center and Eric Miller at right tackle. It couldn't have worked out better. King Doerue was effective on the ground and Plummer took advantage of his protection right from the start. Blanton Creque's 41-yard field goal with 1:02 remaining edged Louisville past Boston College for a wild 41-39 victory on Saturday that ended a nine-game Atlantic Coast Conference losing streak. Shortly after Aaron Boumerhi's 45-yard field goal with 3:32 left put the Eagles ahead 39-38, the Cardinals (3-2, 1-1) drove 52 yards in eight plays for Creque's line drive that sailed through the uprights. BC (3-3, 1-2) drove to its 42 before turning the ball over on downs with two seconds left, sparking a celebration as Louisville emerged from the shootout with its first conference win since beating Syracuse in November 2017.

The schools combined for 1,227 yards, most of it passing in a contest that matched the ACC's top two rushing attacks. Louisville gained the edge 664-563, helped by those final yards ending with Creque's second field goal. Cardinals freshman Evan Conley completed 10 of 16 passes for 140 yards and a 23-yard TD to Dez Fitzpatrick for 38-29 lead early in the fourth quarter. He alternated with Micale Cunningham, who was 13 of 18 passing for 288 yards and 59-yard TD. No starting quarterback, no problem for the Louisville Cardinals in their 38-21 victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday in a neutral-site nonconference game at Nissan Stadium. Louisville announced prior to kickoff that starting quarterback Jawon Pass would miss the game due to a foot injury. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Malik Cunningham directed four first-half scoring drives before leaving in the third quarter following a hit to the head. True freshman Evan Conley finished up and threw a 62-yard touchdown pass on his second throw of the game as the Cardinals (2-1) dominated the Hilltoppers (1-2). In fact, Louisville coach Steve Satterfield hinted after the game that he would be fine playing any of the Cardinals' top three quarterbacks so long as whoever is under center moves the offense. - AP College Football
