  The NCAA approved Liberty's two-year Football Bowl Subdivision reclassification process this week, making the Flames the 130th full-fledged member of college football's top tier. The process was finalized when the NCAA Division I Strategic Vision and Planning Committee approved Liberty's annual report and updated strategic plan.

Liberty had to meet several requirements for approval to play as an independent, unaffiliated with any conference, at the FBS level, which included financial commitment, scholarship increase, facility improvements and minimum attendance. The football program is offering the maximum 85 scholarships allowed at the FBS level, an increase of 22 scholarships from when it was a member of the second-tier Football Championship Subdivision. The Flames had 85 scholarship players on the roster last season. - Lynchburg News and Advance

  2019 PRESEASON BILETNIKOFF AWARD WATCH LIST: Antonio Gandy-Golden, Liberty,...Last year, Gandy-Golden was added to the 2018 Biletnikoff Award Watch List in November and remained on the list for the final voting. Gandy-Golden became the second player in program history to post back-to-back 1,000 yard receiving seasons, finishing his junior year with a team-best 1,037 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. The native of Dallas, Ga., would have ranked No. 14 in the country in receiving yards per game in 2018 (94.3), if Liberty was eligible for the national statistics rankings (not eligible due to NCAA FBS reclassification process). - Liberty Football

  Former Auburn backup quarterback Malik Willis will transfer to Liberty, a source told AL.com. It was Ben Wolk that first reported the news of Willis' destination. Willis spent two years at Auburn as a backup to Jarrett Stidham, playing in 15 games, while running for two touchdowns and throwing for one more - including one against Liberty last season. The dual-threat QB has two years of eligibility remaining.

Willis was a part of a three-person race for the starting QB spot at Auburn to start the spring, but he was the odd man out entering the summer, and elected to transfer shortly thereafter. He will now play for Hugh Freeze, the first-year head coach for the Flames. He threw for 69 yards over two years and ran for 309 yards. - AL.com
