  Jaylon Coleman had a touchdown reception and a 9-yard rushing TD to help Liberty beat Kennesaw State 34-6 on Thursday night. Kennesaw State (1-6, 0-3 Conference USA) has lost six in a row since a season-opening 47-0 win over West Georgia. Liberty (6-1, 3-1) went 85 yards in 11 plays on its opening drive to take a 7-0 lead when Kam Davis rushed for a 1-yard touchdown with 7:11 left in the first quarter. After the teams traded three-and-outs, Elijah Hopkins broke up a fourth-and-4 pass that gave Liberty possession at its own 26. Three plays later Deshawn Purdie hit Coleman for a 56-yard catch-and-run touchdown that made it 14-0 with 53 seconds until the second quarter. Daniel Kinney kicked a 37-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the first half and a 28-yarder that capped the scoring with 1:11 to play. An interception by Derrell Farrar gave Liberty possession at the Owls 12 and set up a 30-yard field goal by Chase Reeves that made it 17-3 early in the third quarter and Coleman scored a 9-yard rushing touchdown about 9 minutes later to give the Flames a 21-point lead. After Farrar and Micah Pollard stopped Boogie Woods III for no gain on a fourth-and-1, Reeves made a 49-yarder with 14:05 left in the game and Terron Kellman's 2-yard touchdown run made it 34-3 with 5:26 to play. - Liberty/AP College Football

  10/12 WEEK 6 CUSA OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: D.J. Geth, Liberty - Sr. - LT - Spartanburg, S.C.,...Geth helped the Flames (5-1, 2-0 CUSA) rack up a season-high 297 yards on 39 carries in a 35-3 win over Sam Houston. He was the top-ranked offensive lineman in CUSA during week six with a PFF grade of 80.9, topping his season-best grade of 79.7 from the Coastal Carolina win. Geth also ranked second in CUSA in PFF run-block grade (77.9). He has been a pivotal blocker for Deshawn Purdie, who is one of just four FBS quarterbacks without an interception on at least 125 attempts. - CUSA Football

  Deshawn Purdie threw a touchdown pass before Ethan Vasko scored two of Liberty's four rushing touchdowns and the Flames spoiled Sam Houston's Conference USA opener with a 35-3 victory on Thursday night. Purdie completed 10 of 14 passes for 114 yards to help Liberty (5-1, 2-0) extend its winning streak to five. He added 57 yards on seven rushes as the Flames piled up 297 on the ground. Jaylon Coleman led Liberty with 92 yards rushing on seven carries and Kam Davis added 67 yards and a touchdown on 10 rushes. Purdie had a 15-yard scoring toss to Bryce Randolph at the end of an eight-play, 75-yard drive and Liberty took a 7-0 lead on the game's opening possession.

Vasko ran it in from a yard out for a 14-0 advantage 45 seconds into the second quarter, and Sam Carpenter kicked a 36-yard field goal with 15 seconds left in the half for Sam Houston (1-4, 0-1). Coleman and Purdie combined for 50 yards on back-to-back rushes before Vasko scored on a 3-yard run two plays later and Liberty took a 21-3 lead to start the third. Davis had a 3-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth, and Terron Kellman capped the scoring with a 9-yard run as the Flames improved to 26-1 in conference home games under Jeff Traylor - in his seventh season. He finished the game with a career-high nine tackles, marking his third game this season with seven or more stops, and logged the third-highest tackling grade for a CUSA defender from PFF (82.9). Vaughan helped Liberty shut out the Fightin' Blue Hens through the first three quarters, allowing the Flames to build a 30-0 lead.   Deshawn Purdie threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns, Kam Davis rushed for 166 yards and a touchdown, and Liberty scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to beat Coastal Carolina 34-17 on Thursday night. Liberty scored on its opening three drives of the second half to go ahead 27-17 on backup QB Ethan Vasko’s 8-yard sneak on fourth-and-1 that was set up by Purdie’s 15-yard scramble on third-and-16. The Liberty defense has not allowed a fourth-quarter touchdown in four games this season. Purdie was 11-of-16 passing. His first touchdown went to Makai Jackson, who caught a pass over the middle and broke a tackle enroute to a 58-yard touchdown for a 10-3 lead.

Jackson finished with 149 yards receiving and two touchdowns for Liberty (3-1), which has won three straight games since losing to James Madison in an opener. Freshman Deuce Bailey threw for 213 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for Coastal Carolina (1-3). Bailey threw his first interception of the season on his second throw of the game. Coastal Carolina had three points after its first three drives of the game and then scored 14 points on the last two before the break to take a 17-10 lead on Tristian Gardner’s diving catch in the end zone with 24 seconds left. - AP College Football

It was also the first kickoff returned for a touchdown since Shedro Louis' 97-yarder against Virginia Tech, Nov. 19, 2022, and the second of Gray's career – surpassing an 82-yard return for a touchdown at NC State (against VMI in 2023).   Terron Kellman's 28-yard scoring rush with 40 seconds remaining completed Wyoming's fourth-quarter comeback and the Cowboys defeated San Jose State 35-28 on Saturday night. Brayden Johnson returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown to begin the rally for the Cowboys (3-3, 1-1 Mountain West Conference), and a 45-yard touchdown catch by Charlie Coenen on a throw from Kaden Anderson tied the game at 28-28.

Anderson was 23-for-39 passing for 304 yards and two touchdowns, topping 300 yards for the second time in his career. Eleven different receivers caught passes for the Cowboys. Danny Scudero set a program record with four touchdown receptions for the Spartans (2-4, 1-1), breaking the previous record of three that had stood since 1978 and was shared by 16 players. Scudero caught 10 passes for 180 yards, his fifth time this season with 130 or more receiving yards. Walker Eget threw for 295 yards on 23-for-36 passing, but was removed from the game early in the third after a big hit.
