  12/01/19 - Jayden DanielsrSr/2024, LSU, 6-3, 210 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Arizona State offensive coordinator Rob Likens will not return next season. Sun Devils coach Herm Edwards announced the decision on Sunday, a day after Arizona State beat rival Arizona 24-14. Edwards said receivers coach Charlie Fisher and tight ends coach Donnie Yantis also will not be back. Edwards said the moves were based on offensive philosophy and not wins and losses. He wants the offense to be built around quarterback Jayden Daniels, who had a solid freshman season. Arizona State finished the regular season 7-5 and qualified for a bowl game for the second straight season. The Sun Devils finished 88th in the FBS in total offense at 379.6 yards per game and 94th in scoring at 25.2 points. - AP College Football

  11/30/19 - Joe BurrowrSr/2020, LSU, 6-4, 221 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Joe Burrow padded his Heisman Trophy resume with 352 yards and three touchdowns passing and No.1 LSU beat Texas A&M 50-7 on Saturday night to give the Tigers their first unbeaten regular season since 2011. Burrow's night was highlighted by a deep, pin-point accurate pass on a 78-yard touchdown strike to JaMarr Chase, who had 197 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches. Burrow also hit Justin Jefferson with a 12-yard scoring pass, while his second scoring pass to Chase covered 18 yards. Burrow has 4,366 yards and 44 touchdowns passing this season, smashing LSU single-season records in both categories. Burrow's yards passing total also broke the SEC record, which had stood since 1998, when former Kentucky quarterback Tim Couch passed for 4,275 yards.

Burrow's 44 TDs has tied the SEC's single season mark set by Missouri's Drew Lock in 2017. And LSU (12-0, 8-0 Southeastern Conference, No. 2 CFP) has at least two games - possibly three - still to play. Burrow ceremoniously left the game after opening a possession with his 23rd completion early in the fourth quarter. He raised his arms to salute the Tiger Stadium crowd, which went wild as he jogged to the sideline and embraced coach Ed Orgeron before exchanging more hugs with seemingly every coach and teammate in the bench area. Soon afterward, junior running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was beckoned by coaches to the sideline in a similar manner, finishing his night with 87 yards and a touchdown. - LSU/AP College Football

Undefeated two-time defending national champion North Dakota State is the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Division I Football Championship and will host a second round playoff game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, against the winner of this week's first round game featuring North Dakota at Nicholls. Nicholls (8-4) has won four straight games and went 7-2 in the Southland Conference clinching its second straight conference title with a 28-27 road win over Southeastern Louisiana in the final game of the regular season. NDSU is 2-0 against Nicholls with a 24-14 victory in Thibodaux in 2004 and a 26-13 victory in Fargo in 2005.

North Dakota (7-4) won its final two games of the regular season to earn an at-large berth in the FCS playoffs for the second time in program history. NDSU beat UND 38-7 in Fargo in the second game of the 2019 season and has won both meetings as Division I opponents including a 34-9 home win in 2015. The teams split two Division II playoff meetings with UND winning the 1994 quarterfinal in Grand Forks 14-7 and the Bison winning the 1995 first round game in Grand Forks 41-10. North Dakota State (12-0) is the automatic qualifier from the Missouri Valley Football Conference and as the No. 1 seed will have home-field advantage through the semifinal round. NDSU has a 24-1 playoff record in the Fargodome, where the Bison currently have a 25-game winning streak. This is NDSU's 10th straight postseason appearance. The Bison have a 32-2 in the FCS playoffs over the past nine years including national championships in seven of the past eight seasons. - North Dakota State Football

  11/24/19 - *Clyde Edwards-HelaireJr/2020, LSU, 5-07, 207 (DS#4 RB) + More +

LSU coaches called one last play for running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in hopes of getting him his fourth-straight 100-yard game. Perhaps it was only fitting that Edwards-Helaire, who needed just a yard, would break loose for a career-long 89-yard touchdown run. The top-ranked Tigers' new spread offense has been producing explosive plays all season -- a big reason why they've booked a trip to the Southeastern Conference title game for the first time since 2011. Joe Burrow passed for 327 yards and three touchdowns, Edwards-Helaire rushed for a career-high 188 yards and three TDs and No. 1 LSU remained unbeaten with a 56-20 victory over reeling Arkansas on Saturday night.

LSU (11-0, 7-0) can finish no worse than in a tie for first with Alabama (10-1, 6-1) in the SEC West and owns the tiebreaker with its 46-41 triumph in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 9. "We expected this coming into the year. If we were not 11-0 right now, we would be disappointed," Burrow said. "That's a testament to our hard work, but we've got more ahead of us." Each time Edwards-Helaire broke loose for a score - his other TDs went for 27 and 26 yards - he left at least one defensive back grasping at air. On his 89-yarder, he was about to be caught from behind but used a high-step to slip the tackle before resuming his gallop to the goal line as the Tiger Stadium crowd roared for a Baton Rouge native having a career night. "I went in and it was like, `Get the yard, get out of bounds, shut it down for the rest of the game," said Edwards-Helaire, who has 15 TDs rushing this season. "But that hole parted like the Red Sea." - LSU/AP College Football

  11/24/19 - Jayden DanielsrSr/2024, LSU, 6-3, 210 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Jayden Daniels' big night on a prime-time national stage helped Arizona State stun No. 6 Oregon 31-28 Saturday night, giving the Sun Devils their biggest victory of the season. Daniels, a true freshman, completed 22 of 32 passes for 408 yards and three touchdowns and Arizona State intercepted two of Justin Herbert's passes in the fourth quarter. Arizona State (6-5, 3-5 Pac-12) ended Oregon's College Football Playoff hopes and its nine-game winning streak. The Sun Devils snapped a four-game losing streak with their first victory over a top-five team since Oct. 14, 2017, against then No. 5 Washington.

Oregon (9-2, 7-1) has clinched the Pac-12 North title and a place in the conference championship game. But the Ducks' best-case scenario is likely the Rose Bowl. "There's lot of goals that go into a season. One of them was to have ourselves in a situation coming into this game to be part of every conversation and every kind of championship," Oregon coach Mario Cristobal said. "But right now the only conversation that needs to take place for us as a team is the most logical one, that we get back to our process of being 1-0." The Sun Devils held on after Oregon scored three touchdowns in a 6:38 span in the wild fourth quarter. - Arizona State/AP College Football
