  06/19/22 - Seth KellerrSr/2024, Kansas, 5-08, 167 (DS#22 K) + More +

Highlighted by kicker Seth Keller on the first team, five Bobcats were named to the Phil Steele 2022 Preseason All-Sun Belt Teams as the publication released its all-conference honors ahead of the upcoming season. In addition to Keller on the first team, offensive linemen Dalton Cooper and Kyle Hergel were named to the second team, wide receiver Javen Banks to the third team, and quarterback Layne Hatcher to the fourth team. Keller, an All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention last season, enters 2022 sixth in school history in field goals made with 23. The Colleyville, Texas product was 15-of-18 in field goals last year and set the program record for field goals made in a single season. He was also third in the Sun Belt in field goal success rate (83.3 percent). - San Marcos Corridor News

  06/11/22 - Caleb TaylorrSr/2025, Kansas, 6-3, 315 (DS#200 DT) + More +

There will be something a bit different about Caleb Taylor the next time he plays in a college football game for Kansas. The 6-foot-2 defensive tackle has put on nearly 40 pounds since early last season, and he believes that extra weight will leave him better prepared for the rigors of the game come this fall. Taylor weighed 258 pounds prior to a loss at Duke on Sept. 25 - the third of four games he started as a redshirt freshman. By late March, he had weighed in at 297 pounds, the result of several weeks of proper dieting and a strength and conditioning program meant to help him better play his position.

"It took a lot of work, honestly," Taylor said. "Going into the weight room after practice, getting extra reps in, getting extra sets, being more conscientious of everything that I was putting into my body - but really the biggest part of it was the weight room, and since I did it like that, I was able to gain that much weight but not lose any strength, speed, anything. So, it's good weight. I feel good. I feel great, actually, and I'm glad I got it. I feel way better with it." Taylor, who finished with 14 tackles, played in every game for the Jayhawks last season but did not start again after a loss at Iowa State on Oct. 2 as the team tried to determine the best way to rotate its defensive tackles. He only played football for three years before enrolling at Kansas - and even then only played defensive end - so he found the move to the inside of the line to be a different type of challenge. - Lawrence Journal World

  06/01/22 - Kenny Logan Jr.rSr/2024, Kansas, 5-11, 209 (DS#21 SS) + More +

Devin Neal and Kenny Logan Jr. each had reasons to be excited about this week. The two Kansas football players, Neal a running back and Logan a safety, were able to enjoy a bit of a break ahead of returning to campus. Logan said there was a team meeting Monday, and both said workouts were set to start up Tuesday. Both expressed an eagerness to get back to work, ahead of Neal's second season with the Jayhawks and Logan's fourth. Logan acknowledged the confidence boost that comes with the various transfer commitments Kansas has earned, especially in the secondary. And those newcomers join a group that already has athletes Logan thinks people should be keeping an eye on, like a safety in O.J. Burroughs who'll be a sophomore this fall, and others. But, off the field Monday, there was another reason for Neal and Logan to be excited.

They were at the 5K Home Run supporting Family Promise of Lawrence, which is an organization that assists families in Douglas County experiencing a housing crisis. Their participation represented an intersection of the name, image and likeness (NIL) space and work with a charitable organization - an intersection that the two of them would like to see continue moving forward. "I definitely see this could lead to future charitable things, and just doing some good for the community," said Neal, who was also joined by other fellow Jayhawks teammates. "And I sure hope that other organizations come to me and a few other football guys, because I think we could be great representation for their programs." Logan added: "I was definitely excited about this opportunity, but if more opportunities come up for me to be a part of, and me to help out, I'm definitely going to accept them." - Topeka Capital Journal

  05/20/22 - Marvin GrantrSr/2025, Kansas, 6-2, 210 (DS#60 SS) + More +

Marvin Grant, a highly regarded safety in the Class of 2019 who was a starter at Purdue last season, became the latest player to commit to transfer to Kansas when he did so on Thursday. Grant, who is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, was the No. 138 prospect in his high school class, according to Rivals.com. He started all 13 games for the Boilermakers last season and finished second on the team with 52 tackles.

A graduate of Martin Luther King High in Detroit, Grant was a high school classmate of Kansas linebacker Rich Miller, who originally enrolled to play for coach Lance Leipold at Buffalo before following Leipold and several assistants to Kansas prior to last season. He is the second safety who has decided to transfer to Kansas in the past two days. Jarrett Paul, who spent last season at Eastern Michigan after starting at Rutgers, committed to play for the Jayhawks at the end of his official visit on Wednesday. Grant decided to transfer earlier this month and made an official visit to Kansas last week. - Lawrence Journal World

  05/08/22 - Dre DoironrJr/2025, Kansas, 6-4, 300 (DS#141 OG) + More +

Deondre Doiron knows how it looks. Doiron, who on Friday decided to transfer from Buffalo to Kansas, is aware of the perception that he's yet another player following head coach Lance Leipold and some of his assistants from the Northeast to the Midwest. And while Doiron does acknowledge that's technically true, he said his decision was made more so because of what he heard about Kansas from the others who have taken that path. "When I entered the portal, it wasn't predetermined or anything like that that Kansas would offer," Doiron said Friday afternoon, not long after offering his commitment to the Jayhawks. "I didn't think that they would have a spot for me, if I'm being completely honest. I got in the portal and I got some offers ... and I thought it was a great opportunity for me. "Obviously, I love those guys and I know what they're building and I know what Mike Ford and (Mike) Novitsky have told me about what they're building over there, so it was perfect for me." A right tackle who will be a redshirt sophomore in the fall, Doiron will be the eighth player to make the move from Buffalo to Kansas once the transfer is completed. - Lawrence Journal World

  05/06/22 - Doug EmilienrSr/2026, Kansas, 6-0, 190 (DS#999 WR) + More +

Kansas' newest wide receiver, Doug Emilien, said Tuesday that he had decided to join the Jayhawks after transferring from Minnesota because of the relationships he had built with the coaching staff over the past month. Emilien committed to play for Kansas on Monday, his 21st birthday. He said his connections with head coach Lance Leipold and wide receivers coach Terrance Samuel played a large role in that decision.

But it was his relationship with running back Ky Thomas, a Topeka native who transferred to Kansas from Minnesota in January, that made the Jayhawks more appealing. Thomas was not just a former teammate but was Emilien's former roommate. "It was my decision, but he told me that we're trying to build something, and I want that," Emilien said. He called the ability to play with Thomas again "a blessing, for real, because we know what it's like to be at the bottom and we know what it's like to be humbled. We're coming out of the same situation." Emilien, who is 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, graduated from American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida, in 2020. Despite being one of Minnesota's top-rated recruits, he was also one of six players it added at the position that offseason. - Lawrence Journal World

With Boye Made and Esezi Otomewo taken in the NFL draft this weekend, the U's current defensive end Austin Booker showed the cupboard isn't bare. The second-year player from Greenwood, Ind., had game-highs in sacks (2) and tackles (7). "He is definitely going to do some big things," said linebacker Derik LeCaptain. - Pioneer Press

  05/05/22 - Doug EmilienrSr/2026, Kansas, 6-0, 190 (DS#999 WR) + More +

The Kansas football team received a commitment Monday morning from former Minnesota wide receiver Douglas Emilien, whose addition will address what had been an emerging need. Emilien enrolled at Minnesota in 2020, redshirted his first season and appeared in just two games last season. He has four seasons of eligibility remaining because of the redshirt and the extra year granted by the NCAA to players at the start of the pandemic.

Three wide receivers have left Kansas in the last month - Kyler Pearson, Tristan Golightly and Majik Rector - and a fourth, Lawrence Arnold, had decided to leave before he was convinced to stay. Emilien, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, wrote on his social media platforms on April 12 that he had decided to transfer from Minnesota, and he took a recruiting visit to Kansas the weekend of April 23. A consensus three-star recruit in the Class of 2020, Emilien earned scholarship offers from nearly two dozen schools. - Lawrence Journal World

  05/04/22 - Dylan McDuffierSr/2024, Kansas, 5-10, 218 (DS#42 RB) + More +

Dylan McDuffie had an official visit set up for Oklahoma State after his trip to Georgia Tech earlier this month. The interest that both teams had in the 1,000-yard rusher from Buffalo was understandable, and the appeal to McDuffie of a Cowboys team that has been ranked consistently in the Top 25 and was losing its leading rusher similarly made sense. But he never made it to Stillwater, Okla. "I actually had a visit set up to go to the spring game," McDuffie told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "But I knew after going to visit at GT that that was where I wanted to be, so I didn't even wait." In committing to Tech on April 17 after his visit, McDuffie has added further credentials to Tech's assembly of running backs.

McDuffie, 6-feet and 207 pounds, runs with a combination of vision, quick feet and will. His commitment simultaneously has furnished new running backs coach Mike Daniels with an invaluable endorsement. After he was coached by Daniels last season at Buffalo, McDuffie chose to entrust his career to him again. "Coach Daniels, he's the best coach I've ever had," McDuffie said. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

  04/28/22 - Lawrence ArnoldrSr/2025, Kansas, 6-3, 205 (DS#77 WR) + More +

Despite sharing his intentions to transfer from Kansas last week, wide receiver Lawrence Arnold has decided to remain at the university and on the football team following conversations with coach Lance Leipold. Arnold, who will be a redshirt sophomore in the fall, was among 11 players who at least publicly expressed an interest in transferring once spring practices concluded on April 9.

He started nine games last season and played an integral role in the passing game, and he figured to be one of the Jayhawks' top targets again this season. "I just think he finally had a chance to sit down with Coach and talk to Coach," Claude Mathis, who was Arnold's coach at DeSoto High in Texas when he was a senior, said Monday. "They're on the same page now. I think it had a lot to do with his role and with the offense, and now that they had a chance to sit down and talk now, I think they've kind of worked some things out." - Lawrence Journal World

  04/24/22 - Leshon WilliamsrSr/2026, Kansas, 5-09, 218 (DS#49 RB) + More +

After two years of waiting, Iowa sophomore running back Leshon Williams received his opportunity in the last game of the Hawkeyes' 2021 season. With regular starter Tyler Goodson opting out of the Citrus Bowl to prepare for the NFL Draft and senior backup Ivory Kelly-Martin battling injury, Williams stepped into a feature role for the first time in his career. Williams only had 10 career carries prior to that. He finished the game with 10 carries for 42 yards. Overall, Iowa rushed for 175 yards and 5.8 yards per carry in their 20-17 loss.

He's expecting a lot more work to come his way in 2022. "I processed (Goodson opting out) as an opportunity," Williams said. "Getting a lot more reps help. There's nothing like being in a game and seeing a blitz full speed. Just me getting into the bowl game and getting a lot more experience is going to help because now I have a game under my belt and I got a feel of the speed of the game and how it goes." Williams is squarely in the mix for Iowa's starting running back competition as spring practice nears a close. He and fellow sophomore Gavin Williams are the top two running backs returning this season with redshirt freshman Deavin Hilson behind them. - Iowa City Press-Citizen

  04/22/22 - Lawrence ArnoldrSr/2025, Kansas, 6-3, 205 (DS#77 WR) + More +

Wide receiver Lawrence Arnold, who was expected to be one of the Kansas football team's top targets next season, wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday evening that he intends to transfer. Arnold, who will be a redshirt sophomore in the fall, started nine games last season. He tied for second on the team with 27 catches, matched a team high with three touchdown receptions and was fourth with 316 receiving yards. Eleven players have decided to leave the Jayhawks since Thursday, though he's the only one who was expected to play a significant role. Wide receiver Majik Rector also wrote on Twitter on Tuesday that he was transferring, as did cornerback DeVonte Wilson, who noted shortly thereafter that he had committed to Florida A&M.; Arnold had a season-high eight catches for 68 yards in the 53-32 loss at Duke on Sept. 25 and had a season-high 73 yards on four catches in the 35-23 loss to Oklahoma on Oct. 23. A three-star recruit out of Desoto, Texas, Arnold had scholarship offers from Kansas State, Cal and Northwestern, among others. - Topeka Capital Journal

  04/20/22 - Dylan McDuffierSr/2024, Kansas, 5-10, 218 (DS#42 RB) + More +

Dylan McDuffie will head south to continue his college football career, and he will reunite with a former coach. McDuffie, who played at the University at Buffalo for the last four seasons, announced on his social media accounts that he will transfer to Georgia Tech, which plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Mike Daniels, who coached the Bulls' running backs in 2021, holds the same position on the Yellow Jackets' staff.

McDuffie, a running back who played at St. Francis and at Sweet Home, re-entered the transfer portal at the beginning of the month. He announced Dec. 31 that he had initially entered the transfer portal, and withdrew from the transfer portal at the end of January. McDuffie led the Bulls in rushing last season with 1,049 yards and 11 touchdowns on 206 carries. The 6-foot, 207-pound back was fourth in the Mid-American Conference in rushing yards, and ran for 1,273 yards and 11 touchdowns on 244 carries at UB. McDuffie will join the Yellow Jackets as a graduate transfer, with two years of eligibility remaining. - Buffalo News
