  2025 SUN BELT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Trent Hendrick, James Madison (Sr., LB - Richmond, Va.),...Hendrick led James Madison and ranks eighth in the Sun Belt with 7.6 tackles per game. The Richmond, Va., native also notched 6.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, a pass breakup and a forced fumble on the year.   2025 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE OFFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Nick Herman, Drake,...Chicago-native Herman was the PFL's leading rusher as a freshman, finishing the season with 1,014 rushing yards on 144 carries with six rushing touchdowns and adding 120 receiving yards on 13 receptions. He led the league and ranked fourth in the FCS with 7.04 yards per carry and was 23rd in the FCS with his 84.5 rushing yards per game, which also led the PFL.   WEEK 13 FCS NATIONAL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Nick Herman, Drake, RB, Fr., 5-11, 190,...Herman rushed for 258 yards - the most by a Drake player since 2003 - in leading the Bulldogs (8-3) past Morehead State 17-10 for their third straight outright Pioneer Football League title. The biggest of his 27 carries was a 77-yard touchdown run with 3:05 remaining to extend Drake's lead to 17-7. He's 40 rushing yards shy of 1,000 as the Bulldogs enter the FCS playoffs.   Nick Herman ran for 253 yards, including a late 77-yard touchdown, and Drake won the Pioneer Football League and an FCS playoff berth with a 17-10 win over Morehead State on Saturday. Quarterback Logan Inagawa had an 8-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs (8-3, 7-1) scored on back-to-back possessions to secure the win. Isaac Stopke scored on a 42 yard burst up the middle to put the Eagles (6-6, 4-4) on top in the first quarter. Stopke finished with 130 yards rushing. Inagawa's touchdown capped a 14-play, 90-yard drive and Herman scored on the first snap after Morehead State missed a field goal that would have tied the game with 3:19 remaining. The Eagles kicked a field goal with 22 seconds left but couldn't convert an onside kick. It's the third straight title for Drake. - AP College Football

  Nick Herman ran for a career-high 153 yards including a touchdown and Drake clinched at least a share of the Pioneer Football League championship, defeating Dayton 14-6 on Saturday. The Bulldogs (7-3, 6-1) bounced back from their only PFL defeat, a 20-13 setback at home against St. Thomas-Minnesota on Nov. 8. The Bulldogs have won three consecutive PFL titles and 24 of their past 26 league games. Drake scored first-half touchdowns on a 1-yard plunge by Logan Inagawa and a 66-yard dash by Herman in which the freshman broke a couple of tackles before outracing the defense to the end zone. Herman's previous high for rushing yards was 134 against Davidson in a 45-0 victory last month.

Dayton (6-4, 4-3) was shut out until the middle of the fourth quarter when Liam Poronsky and Michael Mussari connected for a 23-yard touchdown pass. The Flyers failed to drive inside the Drake 40 on their remaining two possessions. Drake had 248 yards rushing and Inagawa, a freshman quarterback, attempted only 12 passes, completing seven for 59 yards. Dayton passers went 17-for-37 for 197 yards and threw two interceptions, both of which were picked off by linebacker Sean Allison, who also contributed 12 tackles. The Flyers have lost three of their last four games after ripping off five straight victories earlier in the season. Drake can win the PFL outright with a win at home over Morehead State on Saturday. - AP College Football

  Seth Cromwell had two of Northern Arizona's five rushing touchdowns, Kolbe Katsis scored on a 100-yard kickoff return, and the Lumberjacks beat Northern Colorado 49-10 on Saturday. Ty Pennington threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jayson Raines to open the scoring about seven minutes into the game, Darvon Hubbard scored on a 4-yard run late in the first quarter and Quran Gossett ran for a 7-yard TD that made it 21-3 with two minutes left in the second.

Brandon Johnson's 3-yard touchdown run for Northern Colorado (3-6, 1-4 Big Sky Conference) capped a 10-play, 73-yard drive with 23 seconds left in the first half but Katsis returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD that gave the Lumberjacks a 28-10 lead at halftime. It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a Northern Arizona (5-4, 2-3) player since 2017, also against the Bears. Cromwell scored on third-quarter runs of 2 and 7 yards before Ryan Fontaine capped the scoring with a 7-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Pennington was 19-of-22 passing for 255 yards.   WEEK 5 SUN BELT SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Curtis Harris-Lopez, James Madison, (RS Sr., RS - Nashua, N.H.),...Dukes redshirt senior return specialist Curtis Harris-Lopez returned his first kickoff at James Madison for a touchdown in a 35-10 win over Georgia Southern. The Nashua, N.H., product's 88-yard kickoff return touchdown extended the Dukes margin to 21-3 in the second quarter. The Richmond, Va., native tallied a career-high 11 tackles, three tackles for loss and three sacks to pace a James Madison defensive unit that registered a season-high 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks. The Dukes limited the Eagles to 192 yards of total offense and just 27 rushing yards on 26 carries.   Curtis Harris-Lopez returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and James Madison defeated Georgia Southern 35-10 in a Sun Belt Conference opener on Saturday. Harris-Lopez's sprint to the end zone gave the Dukes (3-1) a 21-3 lead that JMU extended on Alonza Barnett III's 17-yard TD pass over the middle to Lacota Dippre and Jordan Fuller's 26-yard TD run around the left end. Wayne Knight rushed for 151 yards on 19 carries, including a 40-yard touchdown for the game's first points. Fuller added 137 yards on 16 carries and Barrett also had a rushing TD. The Dukes rushed for 331 yards and outgained Georgia Southern 479-192. Barrett threw for 148 yards. Trent Hendrick led a JMU defense that held the Eagles (2-1) to just 27 yards rushing on 26 attempts with three sacks among his 11 tackles, six solo.   Matthew Sluka threw for 71 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 59 yards as UNLV beat Houston 27-7 Saturday night in the season opener for both teams and Willie Fritz's first game as the Cougars' coach. Sluka, who was 6-of-13 passing, threw touchdown passes of 13 and 24 yards to Jacob DeJesus in the first half as the Rebels (1-0) led 14-0 at the half. Jalen Catalon, who finished with two interceptions, had a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Michael Allen rushed for 65 yards and Jaden Braden caught two passes for 60 yards. UNLV outgained Houston 308-247 yards. UNLV got its first win over a Big 12 team since beating Iowa State 34-31 in overtime on Sep. 20, 2008. Donovan Smith finished 15-of-30 passing for 135 yards with two interceptions. Mekhi Mews caught three passes for 57 yards for Houston (0-1). The Cougars avoided a shutout on a 2-yard touchdown pass from sophomore backup Ui Ale to Joseph Manjack IV with a minute left in the fourth quarter.
