  James Robinson and Jeff Proctor rushed for touchdowns as Illinois State turned three fumbles into second-half points, defeating Indiana State 24-7 on Saturday. The Redbirds (6-2, 3-1 Missouri Valley Conference) went into halftime tied 7-7 as Indiana State knotted the score with a 6-yard pass from Kurtis Wilderman to Dante Hendrix with 19 seconds left in the half. Illinois State, ranked seventh in the FCS Coaches Poll, dominated the second half, forcing three Sycamores (3-5, 1-3) fumbles. The first resulted in a 38-yard Sam Feniason field goal. Robinson broke free for a 77-yard TD run after the second, and the third and final fumble recovery led to Proctor's score from the 1. Aaron Mends forced a fumble on Indiana State's fourth play after halftime with Jason Lewan recovering. John Ridgeway forced the second fumble, ending an Indiana State threat by tackling Michael Haupert at the 12, with Ty DeForest recovering. And on the ensuing kickoff, the Sycamores' Chris Childers mishandled the catch and Clayton Isbell fell on the ball for Illinois State. - AP College Football

  OCT 21 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: RB James Robinson, Illinois State,...Robinson found the endzone three times for the Redbirds in their road win at Western Illinois. The Rockford, Illinois, native was held to just 68 yards on the ground but scored three times on the ground to up his season total to 12. Robinson's 16-yard score just over a minute into the game got things rolling for ISU and he later scored from two yards and seven yards out to post his second three-touchdown effort of the season. With this three TDs, Robinson moved into second place on ISU career rushing touchdowns list with 38. - Missouri Valley Football

  James Robinson scored three rushing touchdowns, Jeff Proctor added a fourth on the ground, and Illinois State defeated Western Illinois 28-14 on Saturday. Illinois State (5-2, 2-1 Missouri Valley), ranked 11th in the STATS FCS Top 25, led 14-0 at halftime on two of Robinson's TDs before Western Illinois broke through with a DeShon Gavin 2-yard scoring run and trailed 14-7 heading to the fourth.

Robinson and Proctor both scored in the final period for a 28-7 lead then Connor Sampson hit George Wahee for 4 yards and a WIU touchdown with 5:57 remaining. WIU had one more possession that ended on downs at the Illinois State 45 with 2:39 to go. Western Illinois had a significant advantage in total yards (375-279), first downs (24-15) and offensive plays (86-58) but committed five turnovers, losing three fumbles and throwing two interceptions. The Redbirds scored on three short drives following turnovers and intercepted a pass at their own 1-yard line to thwart a drive by the Leathernecks (0-7, 0-3). - AP College Football

Clark tied for the team with eight tackles, including five solo stops, and recorded two sacks and a forced fumble on the night. The senior from Rockford, Illinois, averaged 4.8 yards per carry and ran for 150 yards with a touchdown against the Salukis. It marked Robinson's third 100-plus yard rushing effort of the season and his fifth-straight with over 90 yards or more on the ground. His touchdown on the first drive of the game gave the Redbirds the lead for good, as ISU racked up nearly 200 yards on the ground to pick up a key bounce-back victory. - Missouri Valley Football

  OCT 14 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: LB Brandon Simon, Illinois State,...A transfer from Iowa, Simon made quite the impression in ISU's 21-7 victory over SIU. The Newark, New Jersey, native was all over the stat sheet with two solo tackles, one sack, one TFL and an interception for the Redbirds. Simon's interception late in the second quarter kept the Salukis out of the end zone as the Redbirds were able to take a knee and a 14-0 advantage at halftime. It was his first interception as a Redbird, and the sixth for an ISU defender this season. - Missouri Valley Football

  Brady Davis passed for one touchdown and ran for another and the Illinois State defense held on downs twice in the fourth quarter in a 21-7 victory over Southern Illinois on Saturday. After trailing 14-0 at halftime, Southern Illinois scored on a 74-yard run by Romeir Elliott early in the third quarter. Levi Mitchell recovered an on-side kick after that score but the Salukis were forced to punt. Illinois State responded with an 11-play, 95-yard drive culminating in a 6-yard TD run by Davis.

With FCS No. 13 Illinois State (4-2, 1-1 Missouri Valley) still leading 21-7, the Salukis drove deep into Redbirds territory twice in the fourth quarter. The first drive was stalled by two chop-block penalties and the second drive ended on a 4th-down sack at the 16-yard line with about a minute remaining. The Redbirds' James Robinson gained 150 yards on 31 carries and moved into third place on the school's career rushing list. Robinson scored on a 2-yard run and Davis threw to Austin Nagel for a 2-yard touchdown for Illinois State's 14-0 halftime lead. Southern Illinois (2-4, 0-2) leads the series between in-state rivals 41-38-3 but Illinois State has won five of the last six meetings.   SEPT 23/WEEK 4 MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: QB Brady Davis, Illinois State, 6-4, 215, Jr., Columbus, Mississippi (Memphis),...Davis and the Redbird passing game exploded in a 40-27 win over Northern Arizona. The junior from Columbus, Mississippi, threw for a career-high 419 yards and tossed a pair of touchdowns as the Redbirds improved to 3-1 on the season.

His favorite target was Andrew Edgar, who caught a career-high 12 passes for a career-best 228 yards and both touchdowns. Davis connected with Edgar on a 10-yard TD in the first quarter to give the Redbirds an early lead and later found him for a 53-yard strike late in the third quarter to put the game away. The 419 yards passing were the most for the Redbirds since 2012, when Matt Brown threw for 473 against Eastern Illinois. - Missouri Valley Conference Football

The San Diego, California, native connected on a career-high four field goals to help lift the Redbirds to 3-1 on the season. Fenlason had makes of 23, 28, 32 and 29 yards, respectively, in the contest to improve to 5-for-5 on the season in field goal attempts. He became the first kicker to make three or more field goals since 2017, when Sean Slattery hit three against South Dakota.   Brady Davis passed for a career-high 419 yards and two touchdowns to Andrew Edgar, who finished with a career-high 228 yards on 12 catches, to propel Illinois State to a 40-27 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday night. Davis staked the Redbirds (3-1) to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with a 10-yard TD toss to Edgar, but Case Cookus answered with a 9-yard TD toss to Joe Logan and a 5-yarder to Stacy Chukwumezie to give the Lumberjacks (2-2) a 14-7 lead. Sam Fenlason's 23-yard field goal with 12 seconds left in the quarter pulled Illinois State within 14-10.

Fenlason pulled the Redbirds within a point with a 28-yard field goal at 9:35 in the second quarter before Cookus hit Logan for a 5-yard score and a 21-13 Lumberjacks' lead. James Robinson scored on a 52-yard run with 3:21 left in the quarter and Fenlason gave Illinois State the lead for good with a 32-yard field goal on the final play of the first half. The Redbirds took control of the game in the third quarter, scoring on Robinson's 20-yard run and Davis' 53-yard scoring strike to Edgar. Robinson finished with 92 yards on 20 carries and Kacper Rutkiewicz added four catches for 105 yards for Illinois State. Cookus completed 32 of 56 passes for 357 yards and four TDs, but he threw a pair of interceptions. Hendrix Johnson had nine receptions for 122 yards, while Logan caught nine passes for 98 yards and three scores. - Illinois State/AP College Football

  SEPT 16/WEEK 3 MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: RB James Robinson, Illinois State,...Robinson was all the offense the Redbirds would need in their 21-3 defeat of Eastern Illinois in the 108th Mid-America Classic. The Rockford, Illinois, native scored all three of ISU's touchdowns in the victory, as the Redbirds extended their winning streak over EIU to three in a row. Robinson finished the day with 146 yards on 23 carries (6.3 per carry) and found the end zone three times for the second week in a row.

He scored the game's first touchdown in the first quarter from six yards out, added another from seven yards out in the second quarter and then capped off his day with an impressive 52-yard run in the third quarter to put the game away. After a tough start to the season at NIU, Robinson has tallied six touchdowns and 324 yards in the past two games for the Redbirds on way to a pair of victories. - Missouri Valley Conference Football

Robinson averaged 7.7 yards per carry and finished the game with 178 yards while tying a career-high with three touchdowns on the ground in the victory for the Redbirds. Robinson got things started with a 16-yard TD run in the first quarter and added another just before halftime from 34 yards out.
