  James Robinson rushed for 297 yards on 41 carries - both career highs - and Illinois State beat Southeast Missouri 24-6 on Saturday in a first-round FCS playoff game. The Redbirds (9-4), who finished in a three-way tie for third in the Missouri Valley Conference, advance to play at No. 8 seed Central Arkansas next Saturday. Robinson's previous highs were 256 yards and 29 carries. He scored on an 11-yard run in the first quarter and the Redbirds led the rest of the way, taking a 21-3 halftime lead on a 16-yard run by Bryce Jefferson and a 33-yard pass from Jefferson to Andrew Edgar with 1:25 left in the second quarter. Joe Pyle started in place of banged-up SEMO quarterback Daniel Santacaterina and threw for 124 yards. Santacaterina, dealing with foot and shoulder injuries, came in during the third quarter but threw for only 81 yards with two interceptions. - AP College Football

  The Illinois State football players and coaches had a lot to cheer about Sunday inside the Hancock Stadium Club, as the team was selected to play Southeast Missouri State in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division I Football Championship on Saturday, Nov. 30. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., CT, at Houck Field in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and the contest will air live on ESPN3. The Redbirds (8-4, 5-3 MVFC) will be making their eighth appearance in the FCS playoffs (1998, 1999, 2006, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016) and fifth under the leadership of head coach Brock Spack. Illinois State boasts a record of 8-7 all-time in the playoffs and have advanced to the quarterfinals five times, the semifinals twice and the FCS Championship once in 2014.

ISU, which was ranked No. 13 in the final regular-season poll released by STATS FCS, will take on the No. 12 ranked Redhawks (9-3, 7-1 OVC). SEMO earned a share of the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference title with Austin Peay after beating Murray State on Saturday. The Redbirds and Redhawks will meet for the 11th time overall, with ISU holding a 7-3 advantage in the series. The two teams last met in 2001. - Illinois State Football

  James Robinson rushed for 155 yards to move into second on the Illinois State career list, Luther Kirk sealed it with a sack on fourth-and-goal in the closing seconds and the Redbirds held off Missouri State 17-12 on Saturday. Illinois State led 17-9 with 11:03 remaining in the fourth quarter but an interception and fumble on its next two possessions kept Missouri State in it. Robinson fumbled it at Illinois State's 32 with 2:17 remaining and Missouri State went eight plays to get to the 3 but Peyton Huslig rolled to his right and was tackled for a nine-yard loss on fourth down.

Brady Davis passed for 65 yards and two touchdowns for Illinois State (8-3, 5-2 Missouri Valley), which is ranked No. 8 in the FCS coaches' poll. The Redbirds had three players attempt a pass with Bryce Jefferson and Jack Baltz throwing interceptions. Robinson reached 100 yards, on 29 carries, for the sixth time this season.   NOV 11 MISSOURI VALLEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: LB Dylan Draka, Illinois State, 6-0, 240, Jr., Wheeling, Illinois (Wheeling HS),...Draka did it all for the Redbirds in their big road win over No. 4 South Dakota State. The junior linebacker recorded five tackles, including four solo stops, and tallied three TFLs in the victory over the Jackrabbits. Draka was also credited with a forced fumble, a pass breakup and recovered a pair of fumbles for the Redbirds. His sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery late in the fourth quarter set up Sam Fenlason's fourth field goal make of the contest to make the score 27-18. Draka and the Redbird defense forced four turnovers on the day and limited the Jackrabbits to just 81 yards rushing and 260 yards of total offense, who came into the contest averaging 234 yards on the ground and 422 total yards per game. - Missouri Valley Conference Football

The senior placekicker tied his career high with four made field goals in the win over the Jackrabbits, including a career-long 46-yarder to clinch the victory. Fenlason's first field goal make of 33 yards cut the SDSU lead at halftime to just one at 11-10. A 32-yarder late in the third quarter trimmed the Jackrabbits' lead to 18-13 and his 37-yarder early in the fourth quarter cut the deficit to 18-16.   San Fenlason kicked four field goals, including three in the second half, to help No. 11 Illinois State to a 27-18 win over No. 4 South Dakota State in the Missouri Valley Football Conference on Saturday. The Redbirds (7-3, 4-2) scored on four straight possessions and ran out the clock after a missed field goal. South Dakota State (7-3, 4-2) had three-straight turnovers after taking an 18-10 lead midway through the third quarter.

After Pierre Strong's 4-yard run for SDSU's last points, the Redbirds answered with a Fenlason field goal. An interception by Christia Uphoff led to another field goal that cut the lead to 18-16. The Jackrabbits fumbled the ensuing kickoff, caused by Peyton Jones and recovered by Luke Bennyhoff, and Illinois Sate went 18 yards in six plays, capped by James Robinson's 1-yard run and a 2-point conversion. Dylan Draka forced and recovered a fumble on the SDSU 32 and Fenalson kicked his longest field goal, 46 yards. Illinois State had 302 yards of offense and just one turnover.   OCT 28 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: RB James Robinson, Illinois State,...Robinson took the game over and helped Illinois State to its third-straight win with a strong game on the ground. Robinson averaged 9.0 yards per carry and finished the day with 180 yards and two touchdowns. A 41-yard carry set up his first touchdown of the day, a 1-yard physical run for the first score of the day, and he broke the game open with a 77-yard touchdown TD in the fourth quarter. The 100-yard effort was his fourth of the season and he has now scored multiple touchdowns in five contests for the Redbirds. - Missouri Valley Conference Football

DeForest tallied seven tackles, including six solo stops, including one for a loss against the Sycamores and he also recovered a fumble on the afternoon.
