  04/25/22 - Solo TurnerrSr/2024, Illinois, 6-1, 217 (DS#95 SS) + More +

University of Hawaii sophomore Solo Turner has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Turner appeared in line to exit spring training camp as one of UH's starting safeties. Instead, he will look to resume his college career elsewhere. Turner, who also had experience at linebacker, played his freshman season at Baylor in 2020 and transferred to Hawaii prior to the 2021 season. As a reserve defensive back, Turner amassed 17 total tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles for the 'Bows in 2021. Because he used his one-time transfer exemption without having to sit out in 2021, he will have to redshirt the 2022 season if he signs with another school. - Khon2.com

  04/25/22 - Artur SitkowskirSr/2024, Illinois, 6-4, 225 (DS#999 QB) + More +

One of the players expected to compete with DeVito in training camp wasn't even on the field Thursday night. Rutgers transfer Art Sitkowski spent part of the game working in the WDWS radio booth with Brian Barnhart and Steve Kelly. Sitkowski has been limited this spring as he recovers from shoulder and arm surgeries. He broke his arm late in Illinois' nine-overtime victory at Penn State and was lost for the season. Sitkowski's shoulder had been ailing before the Penn State. The hope is the surgery helps return the zip to his passes. The Illinois coaches want internal competition, in the quarterback room and every other position. If Sitkowski is able to push DeVito in summer training camp, it will be a positive for the team. Quarterback depth is important because of the injury risk. - News Gazette Tribune

Illinois football pulled another player from the transfer portal at a position of need Tuesday with a commitment from former Northwestern defensive lineman Te-Rah Edwards. Edwards' commitment comes just four days after Syracuse transfer quarterback Tommy DeVito chose the Illini. Edwards played sparingly during his two seasons at Northwestern. The 6-foot-2, 294-pound defensive tackle appeared in two games as a true freshman in 2020 and made his only tackle in the Wildcats' 28-10 win against Illinois that was followed by a coaching change for the Illini from Lovie Smith to Bret Bielema. - News Gazette Tribune

  12/13/21 - Tommy DeVitorSr/2023, Illinois, 6-1, 210 (DS#18 QB) + More +

Illinois football is turning to the state of New Jersey for a third time to address its quarterback room for the 2022 season. Syracuse transfer Tommy DeVito, a Cedar Grove, N.J., native announced his commitment to the Illini late Friday night on social media. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is the third quarterback addition from New Jersey in the Bret Bielema era following Rutgers transfer Art Sitkowski and Class of 2022 commit Donovan Leary. DeVito fills a position of need through the transfer portal for Illinois heading into the 2022 season. Brandon Peters exhausted his eligibility with the 2021 regular season finale win against Northwestern. Sitkowski will miss all of spring ball after undergoing surgery both for a broken left arm and a right shoulder injury and Leary will be a true freshman in 2022. - News Gazette Tribune
