He led the nation in receptions per game, averaging 8.8 catches over his 10 games played. He also led the Big Sky and finished second in all of FCS with 114.1 yards per game. Cotton closed the season with a program-record 18 receptions at Northern Arizona, tying the most by an FCS player this year. Cotton was the only Big Sky student-athlete to average over 100 yards receiving per game.   NOV 25 BIG SKY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Petrino led an Idaho charge that saw the Vandals register a 60-53 win over Northern Arizona in overtime. In a high-scoring game that went to overtime, it was Petrino's 25-yard touchdown pass on the first play of OT that lifted the Vandals over the Lumberjacks in the regular season finale. The quarterback completed an impressive 36 of 43 passes with no interceptions. He registered a career-high 498 yards. Petrino completed touchdown passes to three different receivers for a career-high six touchdown passes to tie the school record. He also had 65 rushing yards to finish with the second-most total offense yards in Idaho history with 563. His 25-yard TD pass on the first play of OT provided the game-winning score. He completed 36 of 43 passes for a career-high 498 yards with no interceptions, and carried the ball 14 times for 65 yards.   Mason Petrino threw for a career-high 491 yards and tied the school record with six touchdown passes to lead Idaho past Northern Arizona 60-53 in overtime on Saturday. In a wild game in which Idaho's 46-36 lead at the end of the third quarter was the largest by either team, Petrino capped his stellar performance with a 25-yard TD pass to Nick Romano in overtime. The Vandals defense made the score stand up, stopping NAU quarterback Case Cookus short of the goal-line on fourth-and-goal. Petrino's six TD passes matched the school record achieved 11 times previously. His 491 yards is fourth in school history. Jeff Cotton caught 17 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns.

His 17 receptions match the school record set by Jerry Hendren in 1969. The 223 receiving yards is fifth in school history. Cookus completed 29 of 51 passes for 450 yards and three touchdowns for NAU (4-8, 2-6 Big Sky). Petrino completed 35 of 42 attempts for Idaho (5-7, 3-5). Neither quarterback threw an interception. Romano carried 26 times for 154 yards and a touchdown. He caught four passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns. NAU's Joe Logan had 23 carries for 138 yards and three touchdowns.   Freshman Aundre Carter had 23 carries for 179 yards -- both season highs -- and a career-high tying two touchdowns to help Idaho beat Cal Poly 21-9 on Saturday. Mason Petrino was 13-of-22 passing for 138 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Cotton that gave Idaho (4-5, 2/3 Big Sky Conference) a 21-3 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Vandals have won back-to-back games for the first time since closing the 2016 season five consecutive wins culminating with a 61-50 win over Colorado State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Cal Poly's Colton Theaker opened the scoring with a 44-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. Idaho got into Mustangs territory on two of its next three possessions but failed to convert on fourth-and-2 from the 35 and missed a 48-yard field-goal attempt.

Later, a six-play, 82-yard drive capped by Carter's 37-yard touchdown run made it 7-3 with 2:08 left in the first half. Cal Poly (2-7, 1-5) marched into Vandals territory on the opening drive of the third quarter but, on fourth-and-5 at the 30, Idaho's Tre Walker stopped Xavier Moore for a 4-yard loss. On the ensuing Vandals possession, Carter had seven carries for 55 yards including a 1-yard TD run. After the Mustangs went three-and-out, Petrino led an eight-play, 55-yard drive, scrambling for a 7-yard gain on fourth-and-6 before hitting Cotton for the touchdown two plays later. The Mustangs finished with 242 total yards and completed just four passes -- all to J.J. Koski who finished with 97 yards receiving. Gibbs completed 18-of-28 passes for a career-high 274 yards and matched his career best with the three touchdown passes.   OCT 21 BIG SKY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lloyd Hightower showed his speed and versatility on Saturday in the Vandals' win over Idaho State in the Battle of the Domes. The senior registered a 45-yard pick-six in the first half that bumped Idaho's lead to 14-0. He added another touchdown in the fourth quarter when he ran back a fumble recovery for 49 yards to the house. He also added a pair of tackles in Idaho's 45-21 victory.   Colton Richardson passed for two touchdowns and ran for another and the Idaho defense scored three TDs -- including two by Lloyd Hightower -- as the Vandals beat Idaho State 45-21 on Saturday. Richardson was 17-of-25 passing for 289 yards with no interceptions and opened the scoring with a 2-yard scoring run midway through the first quarter. Jeff Cotton had 10 receptions for a career-best 192 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown that gave Idaho (3-5, 1/3 Big Sky Conference) a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter. Malakai Rango scored on a 4-yard run late in the first half and Idaho State (3-4, 2-2) opened the second with an eight-play, 75-yard drive that cut its deficit to 24-14 when Matt Struck hit Austin Campbell for an 8-yard touchdown but Richardson connected with Connor Whitney for a 58-yard touchdown just 52 seconds later.

The Bengals immediately responded with a 10-play, 75-yard drive capped by Struck's 10-yard TD pass to Mitch Gueller to make it 31-21. Leo Tamba's strip-sack of Struck was scooped up by Hightower and returned 49 yards for a score with 15 seconds left in the third quarter before a 36-yard pick-6 by Sedrick Thomas on the final play of the period capped the scoring. Hightower added a 45-yard interception return for a score in the first quarter.   J'Bore Gibbs fired three touchdown passes in the first half, Pierre Strong Jr. rushed for two scores and South Dakota State clobbered Indiana State 42-17 on Saturday, setting up a first-place Missouri Valley Conference showdown in a week. South Dakota State (6-1, 3-0), the third-ranked team in the STATS FCS poll, crashes into top-ranked and undefeated North Dakota State (7-0, 3-0) next Saturday. NDSU blanked Missouri State 22-0 Saturday for its 28th-straight win.

Indiana State's Keawvis Cummings intercepted Gibbs, setting up the Sycamores (1-2, 3-4) for a 28-yard TD pass from Kurtis Wilderman to Matae Thomas, forging a 7-7 tie. That's when the Jackrabbits took off, scoring four touchdowns on their next five possessions before halftime and a 35-10 lead at the break. South Dakota State's defense had a season-best eight sacks as Wilderman had a net minus 35 yards rushing. Gibbs went 18 of 28 for a season-high 274 yards.
