  10/15/19 - Jonathan GreenardrSr/2020, Florida, 6-3, 263 (DS#7 DE) + More +

No. 9 Florida could be without its top two pass-rushers at South Carolina on Saturday. Coach Dan Mullen said Monday that linebacker Jon Greenard and defensive end Jabari Zuniga will be game-time decisions against the Gamecocks (3-3, 2-2 Southeastern Conference). Mullen says "we'll have to see how that goes this week for them." Both players have ankle injuries. They tried to play at LSU last Saturday, but ended up watching from the sideline. Florida's defense wasn't the same without them, giving up 511 yards in a 42-28 loss.

Florida (6-1, 3-1) has been beset by injuries this season, losing quarterback Feleipe Franks, dynamic receiver Kadarius Toney and several defensive starters. Mullen says "you come into the year and say, 'Hey, if most teams are going to have a great year, you're going to stay injury-free.' We're probably the furthest thing away from that in America this year. "But our guys have shown some (ability) to deal with adversity and come through that and continue to perform and find a way to win games." - AP College Football

  10/07/19 - Kyle TraskrSr/2021, Florida, 6-5, 236 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Florida quarterback Kyle Trask said his sprained knee is "progressing along nicely." Trask was wearing a compression sleeve and a brace on his left knee Monday, two days after injuring it on a play coach Dan Mullen now regrets calling "dirty" during a 24-13 victory over then-No. 7 Auburn. Trask said the pain is subsiding and he expects it to feel even better by the time the Gators (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) play at fifth-ranked LSU (5-0, 1-0) on Saturday night. "It's definitely better today than it's been," he said. "It's been getting better every single day. The pain is kind of going away now."

Trask injured his knee on a low hit by Auburn defensive lineman Marlon Davidson, who was shoved into Trask by left tackle Stone Forsythe. Mullen was critical of Davidson at halftime, telling CBS that "hopefully the league really tries to keep quarterbacks safe from dirty plays." Mullen backed off his comments slightly after the game, but conceded Monday that he shouldn't have used the word "dirty." "Maybe the use of that word, maybe that wasn't the right word at the time," Mullen said. "I don't think that was being coached or there was intent to go injure him on that play. I think that's something, when you look at player safety, we've got to really pay attention. I know as a league everyone wants to preach player safety, player safety, player safety. Talk about it, but what are we doing about it?" Mullen added that the play would have been flagged in the NFL, which has stricter rules about hitting quarterbacks high and low. - AP College Football

  10/06/19 - Lamical PerineSr/2020, Florida, 5-11, 216 (DS#12 RB) + More +

Lamical Perine was too slow to play for Auburn three years ago, a hurtful evaluation that's stuck with him. He showed plenty of speed while running away from the Tigers - and a few guys he played against in high school - in the Swamp. Perine broke loose for an 88-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, Florida's defense delivered another gem and the No. 10 Gators beat seventh-ranked Auburn 24-13 in a matchup of unbeaten teams.

Perine broke linebacker K.J. Britt's tackle at the line of scrimmage and scampered down the sideline for the program's longest TD run in more than 30 years. It gave the Gators (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) extra breathing room in a game they never trailed. Doing it against Auburn was extra special. - AP College Football

Lamical Perine ran 88 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, Florida's defense delivered another gem and the No. 10 Gators beat seventh-ranked Auburn 24-13 in the Swamp on Saturday. Perine broke linebacker K.J. Britt's tackle at the line of scrimmage and scampered down the sideline for the program's longest TD run in more than 30 years. It gave the Gators (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) extra breathing room in a game they never trailed. The biggest reason they led throughout: defense. Jon Greenard and David Reese were the stars of the show for Florida, which has given up a measly 16 points in four home games this season. The Gators kept JaTarvious Whitlow in check and harassed freshman quarterback Bo Nix, whose father, Patrick, upset top-ranked Florida in Gainesville in 1994.

Nix completed 11 of 27 passes for 145 yards for Auburn (5-1, 2-1), with a touchdown and three interceptions. He was sacked three times, once for a 22-yard loss in which he looked completely lost. Florida's Kyle Trask was equally turnover-prone, although much more efficient through the air. He was seemingly knocked out of the game in the second quarter when Auburn star Derrick Brown landed on his left leg. Trask eventually walked to the locker room with no assistance and returned to a raucous ovation. He completed 19 of 31 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns. He also fumbled three times. Florida coach Dan Mullen told CBS at halftime that Trask sprained a knee ligament. - Florida/AP College Football

  10/02/19 - Jonathan GreenardrSr/2020, Florida, 6-3, 263 (DS#7 DE) + More +

Florida outside linebacker and Louisville graduate transfer Jonathan Greenard has fit right in with the Gators while bouncing back from a wrist injury that sidelined him for nearly the entire 2018 season. Greenard made 15 1/2 tackles for loss at Louisville in 2017 before getting hurt in the season opener last year. He leads the SEC in tackles for loss (6 ½) and is tied for the conference lead in sacks (four). Greenard picked off a pass and recorded half a sack and three quarterback hurries last week in a 38-0 victory over Football Championship Subdivision program Towson. - AP College Football

  09/30/19 - *CJ HendersonJr/2020, Florida, 6-1, 204 (DS#2 CB) + More +

No. 10 Florida will be close to full strength, especially on defense, for its biggest game of the season. Coach Dan Mullen said Monday that six injured players - including speedy cornerback CJ Henderson and disruptive defensive end Jabari Zuniga - will be back against seventh-ranked Auburn in the Swamp. It's a top-10 matchup involving two of the Southeastern Conference's five undefeated teams, and the Gators will have two of their top players back on the field for it.

Henderson missed the last three games after spraining his left ankle against Tennessee-Martin in early September. Zuniga tweaked his left ankle the following week at Kentucky and missed two games. Henderson, a junior from Miami, has six interceptions in 27 games. Zuniga, a senior from Marietta, Georgia, has 18 ½ sacks in 39 games. "The guys that are veteran players, I don't worry about as much," Mullen said. "The key is just getting them back in the flow at practice and getting them the practice reps they need." Safety Shawn Davis, linebacker Ventrell Miller, receiver Freddie Swain and safety Jeawon Taylor - each of them has started at least one game this season - also will return after missing last week's game against lower-division Towson. - AP College Football

  09/28/19 - Kyle TraskrSr/2021, Florida, 6-5, 236 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Kyle Trask threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, helping No. 9 Florida beat lower-division Towson 38-0 Saturday and extend its winning streak to nine. Trask set a school record in the process. The junior making his second collegiate start completed 15 consecutive passes to open the game, giving him 18 straight completions and breaking Chris Leak's mark (17) set against Wyoming in 2005. Trask's hot streak ended with an incompletion to Jacob Copeland early in the third quarter. He responded with a perfect throw to Kyle Pitts in the corner of the end zone for his second TD pass of the afternoon.

Trask finished 18-of-20 passing for 188 yards, giving way to Emory Jones in the fourth quarter. Trask showed progress by not having any turnovers. He threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in his first start , against Tennessee. He was considerably more efficient, as expected, against the overmatched Tigers (3-2). The Gators (5-0) need it to continue as they begin a daunting October against seventh-ranked Auburn next week. Although Florida won the game and covered the 35 1/2-point spread, it also struggled to run the ball early. Coach Dan Mullen's team mustered 60 yards on 16 carries in the first half. Towson moved the ball well, meanwhile, ending its first two drives with a fumble and a missed field goal. - Florida/AP College Football
