Parker McKinney threw for four touchdowns to tie the Eastern Kentucky career record and the Colonels welcomed back Walt Wells with a 40-17 victory Saturday night over Charleston Southern three weeks after the coach was hospitalized after a "cardiac episode" in his campus office. Wells returned to coach the Colonels on the sideline after landing in intensive care on Aug. 28 and spending several days in the hospital. He did travel to Ohio last weekend as a sideline observer and watched EKU go seven overtimes to beat Bowling Green 59-57. "It was a great test for my heart," he said at his weekly press conference on Tuesday, and added that he had a couple of broken ribs and a cracked sternum. McKinney tied TJ Pryor (2009-12) as EKU's career TD passing leader at 51 with his 5-yarder to Jyran Mitchell late in the game.

Interceptions by Josh Hayes and Eli Hairston led to 10 points in the third quarter and the Colonels (2-1) added another score after Jayden Higgins had consecutive receptions of 47 and 41 yards, the latter for a TD. Higgins had a career-high 175 yards receiving on seven catches. Jaden Smith scored EKU's first touchdown, returning a punt 56 yards then completing the drive with an 8-yard scoring catch. The Colonels led 16-0 after touchdown passes to Smith and Dakota Allen before the Buccaneers (0-3) rallied to close within 16-10 at halftime. - Eastern Kentucky/AP College Football

Parker McKinney threw for 324 yards with three touchdowns and hit Braedon Sloan with the winning two-point conversion as Eastern Kentucky defeated Bowling 59-57 on Saturday in a game that went to seven overtime periods. Bowling Green had the ball first in the seventh overtime and Matt McDonald threw incomplete, leaving the door open for Eastern Kentucky to finish one of the longer games in NCAA Division I history. Eastern Kentucky scored 24 consecutive points to turn a 17-7 deficit into a 31-17 lead only to see the Falcons answer with three consecutive touchdowns of their own for a 38-31 lead.

Down seven with 3:39 remaining in the fourth quarter, McKinney led the Colonels 75 yards in 14 plays, culminating in a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Higgins on the final play of regulation. EKU chose to kick the extra point to force overtime. Both teams scored touchdowns on their two full possessions in overtime and both missed a two-point try after their second touchdown, sending the game to two-point conversions tied at 51. In addition to his winning catch, Sloan ran for one of the two-point conversions. Higgins caught two TD passes for EKU and Jaden Smith had seven receptions for 102 yards. Sloan had 56 rushing yards with two touchdowns and caught seven passes for 52 yards. - Eastern Kentucky/AP College Football

Eastern Kentucky defensive back Marquae Kirkendoll has been charged with robbing a postal carrier in New Mexico and suspended from the team. According to documents filed in federal court in New Mexico this week, the 21-year-old Kirkendoll was also charged with stealing a key from the carrier used to open mail bags and lock boxes, as well as brandishing a gun, aiding and abetting, and conspiracy. Kirkendoll transferred from New Mexico to Eastern Kentucky in January. His lawyer, Adele Burt Brown, did not immediately return a message seeking comment. Also charged in the Jan. 18 robbery was another former UNM player, Rayshawn Boyce, who was arrested in February. Boyce faces an additional charge of knowingly possessing a firearm after being convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence, the documents state. Kirkendoll was charged on Tuesday, and Eastern Kentucky football spokesman Rixon Lane said the player was suspended the next day after the program learned of his arrest. - AP College Football
