  OCT 7 NEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DAIVON ELLISON, DUQUESNE, DB, Sr., 5-8, 175 lbs., Linden, NJ/Syracuse,...WEEK 6 Stats: 4 total tackles, 1.5 TFL, 2 INT, FR...Ellison secured a trio of takeaways during Duquesne's triumphant NEC opener against LIU. The senior safety also totaled four tackles, including 1.5 TFL, for a defensive effort that held LIU scoreless over its first eight possessions. Ellison came up with his first interception early in the second quarter when he picked off a third-down pass at the LIU 46-yard line.

He took the ball away from LIU again late in the first half, denying the Sharks on a 3rd-and-goal play from the 2-yard line. After Todd Hill's strip sack jarred the ball free, Ellison scooped it at the 15-yard line and returned it 21 yards up to the Duquesne 36. Ellison's second interception ended LIU's first possession of the second half, giving the Dukes a first down at their own 33-yard line. Two of his second-half tackles resulted in one-yard losses on run plays. - NEC Football

  A.J. Hines rushed for 140 yards with a touchdown and twice converted first downs on third-and-short in the final minutes to preserve Duquesne's 21-14 victory over Long Island University in the first meeting of the two teams Saturday. Duquesne (3-2, 1-0 Northeast Conference) took its first possession 74 yards in nine plays and got on the board with Mark Allen's 20-yard scoring run. Hines added a late touchdown, scoring from the 1 as the Dukes led 21-7 early in the fourth quarter.

Long Island (0-4, 0-3), which is Joining the NEC and moving up from Division-II, marched 74 yards in 14 plays and made it a one-score game with 3:55 remaining when Clay Beathard found Steven Chambers crossing the front of the end zone. The Dukes, aided by Hines' two first-down conversions, ran out the clock. Beathard completed 15 of 24 passes for 221 yards but was intercepted twice. David Parr was 12 of 21 for 196 yards for Duquesne. - AP College Football

  SEPT 23/WEEK 4 NEC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: MARK ALLEN, DUQUESNE, RB, Gr., 5-7, 185 lbs., Hyattsville, MD/DeMatha Catholic,...WEEK 4 Stats: 201 scrimmage yards, 168 rush yards, 30 rushes, 2 TD rushes, 2 receptions, 33 rec yards,...Receiving the bulk of the work load in the absence of All-American running back AJ Hines, Allen stepped up and carried Duquesne to victory in its annual meeting with PFL member Dayton. The graduate transfer gained 201 yards from scrimmage and scored two go-ahead touchdowns in a 35-31 road win. Spoiling the home opener for 2-0 Dayton, Allen rushed 30 times for 168 yards and logged 33 yards on two receptions.

The former Penn State undergraduate went for 43 yards during the game's opening possession, which ended on a touchdown pass from Daniel Parr to Kellon Taylor. Allen's first touchdown, an one-yard play, capped a 65-yard drive and broke a 7-7 tie with 1:08 remaining in the opening quarter. He accounted for a 17-yard burst into the red zone on the Dukes' first drive of the second half. Allen was a workhorse on the fourth-quarter drive that gave Duquesne the lead for good. The veteran ball carrier rushed seven times for 38 yards, ending with a one-yard touchdown plunge that put the Dukes in front, 35-31, with 7:13 to play. - Northeast Conference Football

  Mark Allen capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive with a 1-yard dive to lift Duquesne past Dayton, 35-31 in a nonconference contest Saturday afternoon. The Dukes (2-1) won their fourth straight over the Flyers and split back-to-back games in Ohio, falling to Youngstown State, 34-14 last week. They continue their three-game road trip next week at New Hampshire. The game was the home opener for Dayton (2-1). The teams were tied, 21-21 at intermission and Dayton took the lead on a 97-yard kick-off return by Jake Chisholm to open the second half. Less than three minutes later Daniel Parr got Duquesne even once more with a 3-yard run for a touchdown.

Sam Webster put the Flyers back in front with a 32-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. The Dukes regained the lead on Allen's TD plunge and Dayton's 11-play answering drive stalled at the Duquesne 31 with 1:49 left and the Flyers turned the ball over on downs. Parr completed 18 of 22 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a third. Allen finished with 30 carries for 168 yards and two 1-yard touchdowns. He set a new single-season school record with 2,439 punting yards. MacZura placed 16 punts inside the 20-yard line and forced 14 fair catches on the year. He also recorded three punts of 50-plus yards on the season for Duquesne.
