  08/06/22 - Taurean Carter IIrSr/2026, Colorado, 6-3, 280 (DS#999 DT) + More +

The Razorbacks will have a couple of key names either limited or largely unavailable when preseason practices begin. Defensive lineman Taurean Carter, one of the top all-around performers until the final stages of spring drills, will likely miss camp as he recovers from a knee injury suffered in the Razorbacks' spring showcase on April 16. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported he had surgery on the knee early in the summer.

Prior to his injury, Carter was expected to be one of the mainstays and leaders of Arkansas' interior defensive line. He had 24 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 1 sack last season, but emerged as a potential top playmaker throughout the spring. "TC will be in camp...but that doesn't mean that he's going to be active in camp," Pittman said. "But we felt like it was important that he come into camp, be a part of the team, be a part of the meetings, be a part of practice. "Not that he's going to be able to practice, yet. But we felt like that was important." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/03/22 - Robert BarnesrSr/2023, Colorado, 6-3, 221 (DS#68 ILB) + More +

This summer, Colorado linebacker Robert Barnes would often arrive at the Champions Center at 7 a.m. to get in a workout. When he got there, transfer Josh Chandler-Semedo was often there, as well. "It was a joy to see me get there at 7 a.m. and he's there with me," Barnes said during Pac-12 media day on Friday. "That was him. I didn't tell him to. We just show up early at the same time and I think that already built that chemistry. I've got a guy that's riding with me and he's gonna work just as hard as me, as well." While Barnes and Quinn Perry are team leaders at inside linebacker for the Buffs, it is Chandler-Semedo who leads the way in terms of experience. Chandler-Semedo played in 44 games at West Virginia, with 31 starts and he was the Mountaineers' active leader in career tackles with 260. Last season, he was a 13-game starter, finishing with 110 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and three pass breakups. He was voted All-Big 12 honorable mention by coaches.

CU added Chandler-Semedo to help ease the loss of Nate Landman, an All-Pac-12 linebacker who graduated after last season. "He's gonna be really good," head coach Karl Dorrell said. "He's made a big impact already. Josh has done everything that I was hoping that he would be. When we brought him in on the visit, he showed such strong leadership qualities even then. "He would watch tape with us and...he has a lot of traits like Nate in terms of his knowledge and football IQ. He has natural leadership qualities...It's gonna be a really positive addition for us." - Daily Camera

  08/01/22 - Terrance LangrSr/2023, Colorado, 6-4, 282 (DS#48 DE) + More +

Media members covering the Pac-12 aren't expecting much out of the Colorado football team this season. On Thursday, the conference announced the media projections for this season, and the Buffaloes were picked for a last-place finish. For the first time in the 12-year history of the conference there will be no divisions, so the 33 media members who voted were asked to rank the teams from 1-12. CU received just 58 points in the voting, with Arizona (86) ahead of the Buffs in 11th. Defending champion Utah was the overwhelming favorite to win the Pac-12, with 26 first-place votes and 384 points overall.

Oregon received two first-place votes and is ranked second, with Southern California third. The Trojans received five first-place votes. CU has never been highly regarded in the preseason poll. From 2011-21, CU was projected for last-place finishes in the South division seven times - including every year from 2011-16 - and fifth-place finishes three times. The highest projection was a fourth-place finish in 2017. This is the fifth time CU has received the fewest amount of points in the preseason poll among the 12 schools. On the field, the Buffs have had six last-place finishes in the South during their 11 seasons in the Pac-12 and two fifth-place finishes. The Buffs won the division in 2016 and finished second in 2020. Last year, they tied USC for fourth place. - Daily Camera

  07/31/22 - Alex FontenotrSr/2023, Colorado, 5-11, 200 (DS#999 RB) + More +

Throughout his time at Colorado, Alex Fontenot has been through a lot. He's had three head coaches. He's been a backup and a starter - and then a backup again. He's dealt with a major injury. He's watched many teammates come and go. As he prepares for his final season, however, Fontenot isn't focused on anything that's happened in the past. "I just take it day by day and just try and put myself in the best position to just keep moving forward and keep bettering myself and my game," the senior running back said in the spring. While there are familiar faces in the backfield, led by Fontenot, this is an intriguing position group because of the changes in the offseason. Jarek Broussard, who led the Buffs in rushing the last two years and was the Pac-12 offensive player of the year in 2020, transferred to Michigan State. Ashaad Clayton, a four-star recruit in the 2020 class with a load of potential, transferred to Tulane.

CU's coaching staff targeted FCS All-American Ramon Jefferson to replace Broussard. Jefferson committed to CU in January and was in the Buffs' plans throughout the spring. In May, Jefferson changed his mind and eventually landed at Kentucky. What's left is Fontenot and a lot of players with unproven potential, but that doesn't mean the Buffs can't find success in the backfield. "I know we can get it done," Fontenot said. "That's the confidence I have in our room. … The talent is still there." It starts with Fontenot, who is entering his sixth season with the Buffs. He has 14 career starts, 11 of those coming in 2019, when he led CU with 874 yards and five touchdowns while catching 27 passes. - Daily Camera

  07/25/22 - Shedeur SandersSr/2025, Colorado, 6-2, 212 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Jackson State coach Deion Sanders said Thursday that his team is not yet ready to play a team like Alabama. Sanders was asked by WVTM13 about Tide coach Nick Saban saying Tuesday that he would "very much be in favor" of scheduling HBCUs, including those in-state. "He's not gonna play us right now," Sanders said at SWAC media day in Birmingham. "We're not ready to that. We're not into sacrificing our kids to get a check. He got to give me another year." Alabama has not yet announced an FCS opponent for its 2023 season. It will play Austin Peay from that level of competition this November.

Alabama does not have a history of playing historically-Black colleges and universities, prompting a question of Saban at SEC media days earlier this week on the topic. Sanders sees size as the roadblock to his team being able to compete in such a game. "I got to beef up in the front," he said. "The difference in Power 5s and HBCUs right now is those big guys in the middle. It's not the quarterbacks, it's not the receivers and DBs or the skill positions. It's those big dogs in the middle. We've got to beef up that to be able to compete with something like that." - Birmingham News

  07/25/22 - Brady RussellrSr/2023, Colorado, 6-3, 247 (DS#25 TE) + More +

Over the course of the last four seasons, Brady Russell has raised the bar at tight end for the Colorado Buffaloes. During his career, the former walk-on has been the most productive tight end at CU in years, racking up 58 catches for 646 yards and three touchdowns. Now a sixth-year senior, Russell is hoping to have his best season, but he also has his young teammates at tight end in mind. "I want to leave (the tight end room) in a good place," he said. Although Russell doesn't get the national attention of his peers at Utah and other schools, he has gone from being a freshman walk-on to one of the better tight ends in the Pac-12.

And, this year, he's one of the most important players on the Buffs' roster. "I think Brady takes a lot of pride in being the older guy in the room of what this tight end room is going to be when he leaves; what's his legacy of this room," tight ends coach Clay Patterson said. "You talk about a kid that walked on and then has become one of our best players on this football team." Russell isn't resting on what he's done to this point, however. He knows there's room to improve and that the Buffs need him to be better. "I got to grow a lot more in my pass game (this offseason) and understanding the different things I can do," he said. "That's probably where I've seen the most growth." - Daily Camera
