2021 ALL-SUN BELT FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL - C.J. Brewer, Coastal Carolina (Super Sr., DL - Bowdon, Ga.),...Earning first-team honors for the second consecutive year after picking up third-team recognition in 2019, Brewer was once again a leader up front for the Chants' defensive unit, as the two-time team captain finished the regular season with 47 tackles, 9.5 tackles-for-loss, and 4.5 sacks. He also had one fumble recovery, one interception, six quarterback hurries, and ran a fake punt for a first down in the fourth quarter in the win over Troy (Oct. 28). 2021 ALL-SUN BELT HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): WR - Kameron Brown (Super Sr., WR - Graniteville, S.C.),...A three-time Big South All-Conference selection (2016, 2017, and 2019) while at Charleston Southern, Brown emerged as the third option for the Chants' offense in 2021 to earn All-Sun Belt honorable mention accolades. Brown is third on the team with 33 catches, 567 yards, and five touchdowns. He has averaged 47.25 yards per game as well, which is also third on the team behind two of the top three pass catchers in all of the Sun Belt Conference in Heiligh and Likely. Brown's 567 receiving yards are 12th on the season while his 17.2 yards per catch average ranks fifth in the Sun Belt on the season. In Sun Belt play only, his 422 receiving yards ranked 10th while his 16.2 yards per catch average was ninth in all of SBC. He hauled in a season-high five catches versus both ULM (Oct. 2) and Georgia State (Nov. 13) and had a season-high 98 receiving yards at Appalachian State (Oct. 20). 2021 ALL-SUN BELT FIRST TEAM (COACHES): WR - Jaivon Heiligh, Coastal Carolina (Sr., WR - Venice, Fla.),...Now a four-time All-Sun Belt honoree with first-team honors as a wide receiver and third-team accolades as a punt returner, Heiligh leads the team with 59 catches for 1,034 yards and seven touchdowns this season. With his 1,034 receiving yards to date, he became just the second Chanticleer in program history to have a 1,000-receiving yard season (Jerome Simpson - 2006). His 1,034 yards rank second in the Sun Belt and 27th nationally, while his 86.2 receiving yards per game are second in the SBC and 26th nationally.

His seven receiving touchdowns are fourth in the Sun Belt on the year, while his 17.53 yards per catch on the year ranks third overall in the Sun Belt. In Sun Belt Conference play, Heiligh's 38 catches tied him with teammate Likely for the fourth-most in the SBC, while his 570 receiving yards and 75.13 yards per game were both third overall. His average of 94.17 all-purpose yards per game ranked fifth in the Sun Belt on the season. 2021 ALL-SUN BELT FIRST TEAM (COACHES): TE - Isaiah Likely, Coastal Carolina (Sr., TE - Cambridge, Mass.),...A three-time all-conference honoree, Likely finished the regular season with 52 catches for 816 yards and 10 touchdowns, which lead all tight ends nationally. His 10 receiving touchdowns lead the Sun Belt, rank 15th nationally overall, and are the most by a tight end in all of FBS. His 816 receiving yards rank fifth in the Sun Belt, most by a tight end, while his 68.0 yards per game also rank fifth in the Sun Belt. A John Mackey Award semifinalist, Likely's 630 receiving yards in conference play were second while his eight touchdowns led the league. His 78.8 yards per game in conference play was second as well, again tops among all tight ends.

He received national player of the week and Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week honors following his career game at Arkansas State (Oct. 7) in which he hauled in a career-high eight receptions for a career-high 232 yards and a CCU single-game record four touchdowns. He set a new Sun Belt record by becoming the first-ever tight end to have four touchdowns in a single game. He also became the first-ever Chant to catch four TD passes in a game. His four touchdown catches in the win were tied for the second-most in a single game in Sun Belt history by any player, while his 232 receiving yards were the third most in SBC single-game history. 2021 ALL-SUN BELT FIRST TEAM (COACHES): RB - Shermari Jones, Coastal Carolina (Sr., RB - Pensacola, Fla.),...Jones picks up his first All-Sun Belt honor, as he leads the team and the Sun Belt in rushing yards per game at 98.8 this season. He finished the regular season with a team-high 988 yards on the ground over 10 games, which ranks second in the Sun Belt, while his 13 rushing scores on the year are tied for the Sun Belt lead. Jones has registered four 100-yard games on the ground this season, including running for a career-high 211 yards in the win at South Alabama (Nov. 26) in the regular-season finale.

His 211 rushing yards in the game were the second-most in a single game in CCU history behind only Mike Tolbert's 244 rushing yards in 2007 at VMI. His 211 rushing yards were the third-most this season in the Sun Belt and the most against any team outside of Arkansas State. He has had two touchdowns or more in four games on the year, including a career-high three scores on the ground against Georgia State (Nov. 13). Four days after his brother announced his decision to enter the transfer portal, Georgia Tech defensive tackle Ja'Quon Griffin did the same. Griffin made his announcement Friday on social media that he will be seeking a transfer to finish his college career elsewhere. Griffin, a 2018 signee out of Rome High and the older brother of running back Jamious Griffin, was an undersized interior lineman on a team that was committed to gaining size on the defensive line. Regardless, he earned significant playing time, using his quickness to beat blocks on the line. Griffin was credited with nine tackles in 10 games this season, including two sacks. The St. Charles, Illinois, native tied for the team lead with three interceptions and was also credited 2.5 tackles-for-loss and three quarterback hurries on the year as part of a disruptive Redbird secondary. Alfonzo Graham ran for 160 yards and two scores and Morgan State scored four straight touchdowns to earn a 28-21 win over Georgetown in the season finale for both schools Saturday. Morgan State won two of its final three games to finish 2-9. The Hoyas, who had their season opener with Marist canceled due to a COVID-19 pause during training camp, lost their fourth straight to finish a 2-8. Joseph Brunell hit Asante Das with a 42-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and lineman Richie Pinomi ran in for the two-point conversion. Tyler Knoop ran 55 yards for a second score but the Hoyas' PAT kick was blocked to keep the lead at 14-0 with 13:41 left in the second quarter.

Graham ran 40 yards for the Bears' first touchdown on their next possession and ran 86 yards for a score to cap a three-play drive on the opening possession of the second half to put Morgan State in front 21-14. Jabriel Johnson scored from the 4 for the Bears' fourth touchdown to take a 28-14 lead with 1:58 left in the game. The Chanhassen, Minn., native broke through the right side of the line and blocked the punt, which was scooped up by redshirt freshman linebacker Mason Shelton, who ran it into the end zone from 33 yards out to give Coastal Carolina a 21-0 halftime advantage. Backup quarterback Bryce Carpenter threw for 85 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score to help No. 21 Coastal Carolina beat Georgia Southern 28-8 on a rainy Saturday night. The Chanticleers (8-1, 4-1 Sun Belt Conference) are tied with Appalachian State (7-2, 4-1) atop the East Division standings, but the Mountaineers are in the driver's seat after a 30-27 series victory last month. Coastal Carolina announced an hour before the game that starting quarterback Grayson McCall would not play. The school said McCall is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. "It is our interpretation that this is a long-term thing. Hopefully, we get him back before the end of the season," Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell said. McCall is a redshirt sophomore who has thrown for 2,063 yards, 17 touchdowns and two interceptions this season.

He leads the nation in passing efficiency and is third in completion percentage. "But we've been here before, and Bryce Carpenter has played a lot of football for us," Chadwell said. "It's next-man-up mentality. Bryce has that mindset and he'll play well and help our football team play well." Carpenter, who entered with 19 pass attempts this season, connected with Kameron Brown for a 12-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring. Carpenter made it 14-0 with a 23-yard run, and Mason Shelton recovered a blocked punt and returned it 33 yards for a three-touchdown lead. It was Alex Spillum's second blocked punt of the season, after a block and TD recovery in the end zone against Kansas. Josaiah Stewart led the defensive effort for Coastal Carolina, which forced four turnovers and held Georgia Southern (2-7, 1-5) to 233 total yards. Stewart finished with four sacks. Reese White was thinking even bigger for No. 17 Coastal Carolina after his strong start to the season. White finished with 102 yards and three rushing touchdowns and the Chanticleers beat Kansas for a third straight year, 49-22, as the fledging FBS program hosted a Power Five team for the first time Friday night. White is a junior who was a backup behind last year's rushing leader, C.J. Marable, during Coastal's breakthrough season in college football's top division. So far, White is filling in very nicely. He had two rushing touchdowns in a 52-14 victory over The Citadel last week and wondered if he couldn't do even better.

How about his first-ever 100-yard performance and those three critical TDs. "I wanted to add one to the total," he said. "I thought, "Why not go for three?’ and I did it." So is four on the table when Coastal Carolina travels to play Buffalo next week? "Maybe," White said with grin. Quarterback Grayson McCall threw for two scores and ran for a third in the victory. It was a big spot for a program on the rise and Kansas (1-1) didn't have the firepower to spoil the home team's "White Out" promotion in front of the largest crowd here ever at 17,697.
