  12/02/19 - Hunter JohnsonrSr/2023, Clemson, 6-3, 199 (DS#29 QB) + More +

Northwestern has parted ways with offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mick McCall after a miserable season. Coach Pat Fitzgerald noted that McCall helped the Wildcats through nine postseason appearances and four bowl wins in 12 seasons, a tenure that included six all-Big Ten quarterbacks, including three who went to the NFL. Fitzgerald announced the move a day after Northwestern (3-9, 1-8 Big Ten) picked up its first conference win with a win at Illinois in the season finale. McCall previously spent five seasons at Bowling Green after stops at Wyoming, Oregon State and Idaho State. - AP College Football

  11/30/19 - *Trevor LawrenceJr/2021, Clemson, 6-6, 213 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Trevor Lawrence threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 3 Clemson to its 27th straight victory and second consecutive 12-0 regular season with a 38-3 victory over rival South Carolina on Saturday. Travis Etienne ran for two touchdowns to break Atlantic Coast Conference marks for career touchdowns (57) and rushing scores (53) as the Tigers dominated throughout on the way to a sixth straight win over South Carolina (4-8). Lawrence had touchdown throws of 10 and 65 yards to Tee Higgins and of 16 yards to Justyn Ross. He completed 25 of 35 throws - tying an Atlantic Coast Conference single-game mark with 18 straight at one point - before coming out in the fourth quarter. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said no matter the record coming in, his players were going to be ready to extend their hold on the rivalry. "Our program and our team takes pride in these type of games and every single game," he said.

Lawrence also had 66 yards rushing to lead Clemson (No. 3 CFP), which will attempt to become the first program to win five straight league championship games when it meets Virginia next week in Charlotte, North Carolina. Clemson's defense did its part in the beatdown, holding the Gamecocks to 174 yards and continuing a run where the Tigers have limited all 12 opponents this year to less than 300 yards of total offense. South Carolina's defense showed some fight very early, stuffing Etienne for no gain on fourth-and-goal at the 1 on Clemson's first drive. Four plays later, though, Ryan Hilinski threw an interception to Derion Kendrick to set up the first score and Clemson's rout was on. Lawrence connected with Higgins on a 10-yard score on a perfectly placed over the shoulder throw. Higgins was on the other end of another beautiful Lawrence TD pass from 65-yards out. - Clemson/AP College Football

  11/16/19 - *Trevor LawrenceJr/2021, Clemson, 6-6, 213 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Trevor Lawrence wasn't going to slow down after clinching the ACC Atlantic a week earlier. No. 3 Clemson didn't, either. Lawrence tied his career high with four touchdowns, three to Tee Higgins, and No. 3 Clemson won its 26th straight game and completed a second straight perfect Atlantic Coast Conference regular season with a 52-3 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said the team has played its best football the past six games as the postseason approaches. "It's not like we're trying to score a certain amount of points," he said. "We just let them play. We're doing the things you need to do to win a championship."

Much of that starts with Lawrence, who after a sometimes shaky start to the season has steadied himself to look like the stellar passer who led Clemson to the national title a year ago. Lawrence has thrown for 19 TDs and three interceptions in the past six games - and was front and center of Clemson's latest blowout. The Tigers (11-0, 8-0, No. 3 CFP) opened quickly and, after an uncomfortable stretch of four series with just a field goal, turned it on again right before halftime to win their 11th in a row over the Demon Deacons (7-3, 3-3). - Clemson/AP College Football

  11/16/19 - Justyn RossrSr/2022, Clemson, 6-4, 210 (DS#35 WR) + More +

Clemson starting receivers Justyn Ross and Amari Rodgers were hurt in the opening half of the third-ranked Tigers. game with Wake Forest on Saturday. Ross was hurt late in the second quarter and, while got up and walked to the sidelines, he appeared sluggish as he and a trainer went into the locker room. Rodgers appeared to hurt his right shoulder after a 52-yard punt return that set up Clemson's first touchdown. Rodgers came out of the medical tent stretching and rotating his right arm. Ross entered the game as Clemson's leader with 40 catches. Rodgers was third with 25 receptions. Clemson said neither player would return for the second half. The Tigers have next week off before closing the season at rival South Carolina on Nov. 30. - Clemson/AP College Football

Praise him or criticize him, Trevor Lawrence doesn't care. Not as long as the quarterback keeps improving and No. 3 Clemson keeps winning. Lawrence and the Tigers have done plenty of both this season. "I really like the way we're playing," Lawrence said with a smile Monday. Lawrence came into the season the potential face of college football, fresh off a dominating show where he riddled Alabama in Clemson's 44-16 national championship victory in January. Several analysts even suggested Lawrence withdraw from school and spend the next two years prepping for his inevitable selection as the NFL's No. 1 pick.

Instead, Lawrence vowed to work hard and came into the season as the first-team QB on The Associated Press All-America team presented by Regions Bank, a sure-fire favorite for the Heisman Trophy. But the 6-foot-6 sophomore slumped early. Lawrence threw just four interceptions in his 15-0 freshman season, but he had five in his first five games this year. He struggled in Clemson's low point of the season, a 21-20 escape at North Carolina on Sept. 28 that grabbed everyone's attention for all the wrong reasons from Clemson's point of view. Lawrence's health was questioned, his mechanics picked apart. Critics questioned the 19-year-old's ability to make the right decisions. - AP College Football

  11/10/19 - *Trevor LawrenceJr/2021, Clemson, 6-6, 213 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Trevor Lawrence said he and his Clemson teammates aren't focused on trying to make a point about their outside-looking-in position in the first College Football Playoff rankings. Maybe not, but the reigning national champion Tigers sure are playing with an overwhelming edge all the same - and that has for now at least secured their ticket to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. Lawrence threw for two scores and ran for another in a dominating first quarter, helping No. 4 Clemson beat North Carolina State 55-10 on Saturday night to clinch the league's Atlantic Division title. The Tigers learned this week that they were fifth in the four-team playoff rankings. Yet coach Dabo Swinney had said the Tigers (10-0, 7-0, No. 5 CFP) were in a "good spot" and needed to focus instead on finishing strong.

Since surviving a 21-20 scare at unranked North Carolina in September, the Tigers have won five straight games by 31 or more points. "I think with something like (the CFP ranking), it's hard to just avoid it and not see it and not hear any of that," Lawrence said. "But we don't really focus on it, especially now. I mean, after the 12th week or the ACC championship, that'll be important for sure then...If we don't win next week and the week after that and the week after that, it doesn't really matter about the playoff if we lose a game." Starting that way was enough against the Wolfpack (4-5, 1-4) as Clemson extended its school-record winning streak to 25 games. - Clemson/AP College Football

  11/10/19 - John SimpsonSr/2020, Clemson, 6-4, 321 (DS#3 OG) + More +

Clemson gave offensive lineman John Simpson and linebacker James Skalski a chance to show off some positional versatility in this one. The Tigers' 42-0 halftime lead included 6-foot-4, 330-pound Simpson taking a goal-line handoff and plowing in for a 1-yard touchdown. "Getting in there was insane," Simpson said, adding: "It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience." And near the end of the game, after Clemson added a 1-yard scoring run with 11 seconds left, the Tigers let Skalski unsuccessfully kick the extra point. Swinney said Skalski makes kicks in practice but "all of a sudden, he got a little stage fright out there tonight." - Clemson/AP College Football

Clemson running back Travis Etienne doesn't need many carries to put up big numbers. Etienne has gained 640 yards and six touchdowns during the Tigers' four-game romp since their open week. He's needed just 56 carries to do it, exiting games by early in the third quarter with the Tigers typically up big. - AP College Football

  11/02/19 - Travis EtienneSr/2021, Clemson, 5-10, 215 (DS#2 RB) + More +

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney believes it's way past time to lighten up on quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence accounted for four touchdowns, Travis Etienne ran for 212 yards in a record-setting performance and No. 4 Clemson rolled to its 24th straight victory, 59-14 over FCS opponent Wofford on Saturday. Lawrence had three TD passes for a fourth straight game, leading the Tigers to a season-high 702 yards. And Swinney things people should start focusing on that instead of finding fault in Lawrence's play. "He's had about eight bad plays and they just can't let it go," Swinney said. "They can't let it go. They can't forgive him."

Lawrence, the 6-foot-6 long-haired sophomore, gets plenty of forgiveness from his team Tiger fans. He heard outsiders pick at his career-high eight interceptions -- double what he threw during Clemson's 15-0 national championship season a year ago -- and he shrugs it off as the Tigers (9-0) keep winning. "We've used it for fuel," Lawrence said, smiling. Etienne, the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year, helped the Tigers put it away early with scoring runs of 47 and 86 yards in the first 15:12. Clemson improved to 34-0 against FCS programs. It was the Tigers' sixth straight win over Wofford (5-3), which fell to 1-21 against FBS schools. Etienne became Clemson's first rusher with three 200-yard games in his career. He also surpassed James Davis for Clemson's career record for rushing TDs with 48. Lawrence had TD passes of 35 yards to Amari Rodgers, 22 yards to Tee Higgins and 34 yards to Justyn Ross. Lawrence also rushed for a 2-yard score that put Clemson up 42-0 at the half. - Clemson/AP College Football
