He averaged 42.2 yards per kick, which is the third-best in school history. He had five kicks of 50+ yards, including a long of 65 yards, and landed 14 punts inside the 20. A two-time C-USA Offensive Player of the Week following wins over Duke (324 passing y; 3 TD; 1 rush TD) and Middle Tennessee (339 pass yd; 4 TD, 1 rush TD). Was named to the Davey O'Brien Top 40 QB Class and a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy given to the top college player that began his career as a walk-on. A two-time Maxwell Award Watch Lister who was also on the Manning Award and Unitas Golden Arm Watch Lists. Threw for 300+ yards three times, including a school-record 448 passing yards vs. La. Tech. He ranked fifth in C-USA in sacks. He also forced two fumbles with a fumble recovery and added a blocked kick. He led the team with five QB hurries. He moved into second-place all-time in career sacks (just 2.5 behind current Pittsburgh Steeler Alex Highsmith) and owns two-of-the-top-three single-season sack efforts in 49ers history.   2021 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE ALL-NEWCOMER TEAM: OLB - Eyabi Anoma, UT Martin,...Anoma has made a big impact in his debut season with the Skyhawks, tallying 30 combined tackles - including 12 solo and 18 assists - while notching 9.5 tackles for loss totaling 53 yards. The former Alabama product not only leads the team but sits atop the OVC leaderboard with 6.0 sacks on the seasons while his 8.0 tackles for loss during conference play ranks second. His best game of the season came against Austin Peay (Oct. 30) when he tallied eight tackles, 4.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks and blocked a potential go-ahead field goal in the final seconds to claim Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honors along with OVC Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Week accolades.   Chris Reynolds and Elijah Spencer connected late in regulation to tie it and again in overtime for the win and Charlotte rallied late to beat Rice 31-24 on Saturday. Ari Broussard's scoring run from the 2 with 6:35 left ended a 16-play, 84-yard drive that lasted 9 1/2 minutes and Rice led 24-14. Jonathan Cruz kicked a 32-yard field goal to reduce Charlotte's (5-4, 3-2 Conference USA) deficit to a touchdown. The 49ers' defense forced a punt in a 1:40 possession for Rice, then Reynolds led a five-play, 80-yard drive in 75 seconds that ended with his 8-yard scoring pass to Spencer to knot it with 1:14 left and force the extra session. The duo then connected on the first play of overtime when Spencer ran a slant and broke a tackle in the middle of the field for a 25-yard score. Linebacker Luke Martin sealed the win with an interception of Jake Constantine who was under heavy pressure. Broussard ran for 186 yards on 20 carries and scored twice and Jake Bailey had seven receptions for 143 receiving yards for the Owls (3-6, 2-3). - AP College Football

  Chris Reynolds passed for 203 yards and four touchdowns, Shadrick Byrd had two long kickoff returns that led to points and Charlotte defeated Florida International 45-33 on Friday night. An interception returned 39 yards for a touchdown by Jon Alexander with 5:45 left in the game sealed the win for Charlotte, although FIU scored again on a one-play, 75-yard drive in 10 seconds and then appeared to recover an onside kick before losing it to an illegal touch penalty. The 49ers (4-2, 2-0 Conference USA) earned their first road win this season and are off to a 2-0 conference start for the first time. Charlotte has its best start to any season at the FBS level.

Charlotte opened the second half with a crisp, three-minute drive ending with a 22-yard scoring pass down the seam from Reynolds to Victor Tucker, extending their lead to 24-6. Reynolds was 4-for-4 passing on the drive, the TD catch was Tucker's 13th. FIU (1-5, 0-2) responded in two plays, cutting the gap to 24-13 after a 25-yard run up the middle by D'vonte Price and a 50-yard scoring heave from Max Bortenschlager to Kris Mitchell, who caught the ball in stride at about the 6.   SEPT 27 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Charlotte QB Chris Reynolds threw four touchdown passes and ran for what proved to be the difference maker in Charlotte's 42-39 win over Middle Tennessee in the 49ers C-USA opener. Reynolds broke the 49ers all-time record for career touchdown passes and set a new school record for touchdown passes in a C-USA game as the 49ers improved to 3-1 for the first time since 2014. Reynolds was 25-for-36 (69.4%) for 339 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions – setting program records for the most 300-yd passing performances and consecutive games with a touchdown pass.   Chris Reynolds punched the ball four straight times up the middle to score the insurance touchdown with a leap over the pile from the 1-yard line late in the fourth quarter and Charlotte fended off Middle Tennessee 42-39 in a Conference USA slugfest Friday night. The touchdown with four minutes left, on top of four passing touchdowns, made for a career scoring night for Reynolds, who passed for 339 yards. Grant DuBose caught 9 passes for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Calvin Camp broke off a 44-yard scoring run to end the third quarter and racked up 101 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Chase Cunningham threw for 379 yards and five touchdowns to five different receivers for the Blue Raiders (1-3, 0-2) in his first career start. The junior had entered with five career scoring passes and a 150-yard single-game best effort. After four lead changes through the second and third quarters, Charlotte wrapped two touchdowns around a Middle Tennessee three-and-out to grab a 35-24 lead with 10:27 remaining, breaking the pattern of the two teams trading scores. The scoring drives on consecutive possessions, plus Reynolds' winner from the 1, swung momentum to the 49ers (3-1, 1-0). Reed Blankenship was credited with 13 tackles, six solo, to become the all-time leading tackler for Middle Tennessee with 348 career tackles.   Chris Reynolds scored two touchdowns and became Charlotte's career passing leader in a 38-10 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday night. Reynolds was 10-of-17 passing for just 103 yards and two interceptions but he still finished the night with 5,469 career passing yards, eclipsing Matt Johnson (2013-16), who finished with 5,405. Charlotte did most of its damage on the ground with 306 yards and rushing touchdowns by four 49ers.

Reynolds scored on a 37-yard run early on and Charlotte never trailed. Short TD runs by Shadrick Byrd and Calvin Camp plus Reynolds' 11-yard TD pass to Jairus Mack made it 28-10 at halftime. ChaVon McEachern added a 13-yard score and Jonathan Cruz a field goal to complete Charlotte's scoring. The 49ers are 2-0 to start a season for the first time since 2015, having beaten Duke 31-28 last week for their first program victory over a Power 5 opponent.
