  Archie Cox caught a 48-yard pass with 1:47 remaining to give Butler a conference-opening win over Marist, 31-28 on Saturday afternoon. Butler (3-2, 1-0 PFL) had three different receivers score touchdowns in the win. Reagan Andrew was 17-for-27 passing for 151 yards, and a team-leading 57 yards on the ground. There were four lead changes in the fourth quarter. Marist had the lead with 3:11 to go after Sonny Mannino connected with Lance Martinez for a 35-yard reception.

Butler responded with Cox's touchdown and pinned Marist deep after kickoff. The Bulldogs sacked Mannino twice to end the game. Mannino went 23-for-35 with 178 yards and two touchdowns. He was picked off in the first quarter by Will Mason, which set Butler up for their first touchdown of the game on the 6-yard line. Backup quarterback Patrick Grusser went 3-for-3, including a 17-yard completion to Connor Hulstein in the third quarter. Marist (2-2, 0-1 PFL) has not won a PFL opener since 2022, when the Red Foxes defeated Drake 30-25. - AP College Football

  Ethan Loss returned the second-half kickoff for a 90-yard touchdown and Butler beat Division III-member Hanover 16-7 on Saturday. Butler (2-1) leads the series with Hanover (0-2) 23-1-1, with the first meeting coming in 1887. Last season, Butler passed for three touchdowns and added four on the ground in a 53-0 win over Hanover. Loss also had four catches for 68 yards against Hanover. He was coming off a career-high 106 yards receiving last week against Truman State - the first 100-yard game of his Butler career.

Jarrin Alley threw for 178 yards with an interception for Butler. Gabe Passini rushed for 55 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown for a 10-7 lead at the break. Eian Roudebush threw for 109 yards with a touchdown for Hanover. Don Dunning rushed for 60 yards on 11 carries. Curbrian Shelby added 59 yards receiving and a touchdown. Butler held Hanover to just 12 first downs and 158 total yards. It was the second win for coach Kevin Lynch - both at Butler and as a head coach. He was hired in December after serving as Ball State's offensive play caller last year. - AP College Football

  Reagan Andrew threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more and Butler held off Division-II Truman State 37-27 on Saturday. Andrew had touchdown runs of 5 and 9 yards to open the scoring and after a Truman touchdown had his two scoring passes for a 28-7 lead early in the third quarter. Andrew found Brady Preston and Ershod Jasey for 7-yard scores sandwiched around halftime. Andrew, who was 14 of 17 for 156 yards, was hurt on the next possession. As the Bulldogs offense struggled to regain momentum, Truman got back in the game.

A one-play drive resulted in a 40-yard pass from Dylan Hair to Nathan Ryan. Truman cashed in on a blocked punt on the 8 for a Denim Cook 13-yard run to make it 28-21. Then Truman scored on a 22-yard pass from Hair to Ryan. But on the PAT attempt to tie the game, Luke Green blocked the kick and Will Mason returned it the other way for two points to make it 30-27. Butler iced it was an 11-play, 75-yard drive with Ethan Malafa hauling in a 24-yard scoring pass from Griffin Caldwell. The defense then held Truman to four punts, three of them on three-and-out series. - AP College Football

  Reagan Andrew threw three touchdown passes and ran for one and Butler beat NCAA Division II-member Upper Iowa 40-7 in a season opener on Saturday. The Bulldogs used a quarterback rotation in their first game without graduated starter Brett Bushka, the 2024 Pioneer League offensive player of the year. In all, four quarterbacks attempted at least one pass. Nick Howard, a graduate transfer from Dartmouth who helped lead the Big Green to a share of the Ivy League title in 2023, got the start and scored the game's first touchdown, punching over from the 1 after Nick Bafka returned an interception 24 yards to the Upper Iowa 8. Howard also threw a 58-yard touchdown strike to Derek Allen Jr. for a score.

Andrew's first play was an interception by Zacarius Murray that gave the Peacocks the ball at the Butler 24. He came right back to threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to William Enneking midway through the seconds quarter and a 70-yard TD to Luke Wooten just before halftime. Upper Iowa's lone touchdown occurred after its defense forced Butler to punt from its own 17 and Darryl Overstreet Jr. cashed in by throwing 23 yards to Eddie Burgess in the second. - AP College Football

In league action, Mitchell amassed 985 rushing yards in league play and 1,147 all-purpose yards - both tops among league runners. He led all PFL athletes with 3,004 offensive yards and 25 touchdowns. While Bushka's 2,377 passing yards ranked second among PFL passers, his 627 rushing yards were eighth among the league's rushers and led all quarterbacks. He led the PFL in pass efficiency (142.17) and completion percentage (64.7) and was tied for the league lead with 20 passing touchdowns. At the end of the regular season, he ranked among the FCS top 25 in total offense (17th, 273.1 yards per game), completion percentage (25th), passing touchdowns (22nd), and points responsible for (23rd, 14.2 points per game). - Pioneer Football League

  Nick Howard ran for two touchdowns, Dartmouth had 293 yards on the ground, and the Big Green defeated Brown 30-7 on Saturday. Noah Roper led Dartmouth with 88 yards rushing as eight players shared 54 rushing attempts with an average of 5.4 yards per carry. Dartmouth had 422 yards total offense and held Brown to 174 yards.   Brett Bushka threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third, Brody Reder added three rushing scores and Butler rolled to its fourth-straight win, routing Morehead State 56-20 on Saturday. It was the 600th win in Butler history. Joey Suchy, who picked up a career-high 99 yards, opened the scoring with a 21-yard run. Reder had touchdown runs of 10, 3 and 3 yards and Bushka, who scored on a 2-yard keeper, connected with Jared Suchevits for a 43-yard score as the Bulldogs led 42-7 at the half.

Butler (6-2, 4-1 Pioneer Football League) was successful in five trips to the red zone and is now 29 of 30 when inside the opponent's 20. Bushka, who leads the league by completing 67% of his passes, was 8 of 10 for 195 yards. Tyler Adams had three catches for 91 yards and a 36-yard score. Grady Cramer and Carter Cravens combined to go 24 of 42 for 274 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Eagles (2-6, 1-4), who had their string of five-straight games with a blocked punt end. - AP College Football
