  10/13/22 - *Bryce YoungJr/2023, Alabama, 5-10, 204 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Bryce Young has been able to practice some this week ahead of Tennessee, Nick Saban said Wednesday morning. "He's making progress," Saban said. He added that Alabama will continue to evaluate Young as the week progresses. The Alabama football quarterback injured his throwing shoulder in the game against Arkansas on Oct. 1. He left in the second quarter and has not played since. Saban called it a "little AC sprain" in Young's shoulder after Arkansas. He didn't play against Texas A&M, but Saban said Young wanted to enter the game late. "I didn't think he was in a position that he could go and effectively do his job in the way he's capable of doing it," Saban said Wednesday. "He's made a lot of progress from that point, so hopefully that will change in the near future."

The injury stemmed from an incident in which Young landed on his shoulder awkwardly after running toward the sideline to evade a rusher against Arkansas. Young played briefly after that, but he eventually left the game and went to the medical tent to be evaluated. Young stayed in uniform through the rest of the game After the win over the Razorbacks, Saban said he thought Young was OK and that it was not serious. In the week leading up to the Texas A&M game, Saban deemed Young a game-time-decision. Young joined the team on the field for warmups in uniform, but he did not throw any footballs. - Montgomery Advertiser

  10/08/22 - Jalen MilroerJr/2025, Alabama, 6-2, 217 (DS#6 QB) + More +

Jalen Milroe threw for three touchdowns in his first start and No. 1 Alabama made a final goal-line stand to escape with a 24-20 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday night in a battle of backup quarterbacks. Playing without injured Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, the Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) needed two late stops from Will Anderson Jr. and the defense. They got them, just barely, to survive four turnovers and two missed field goals. Haynes King, subbing for injured starter Max Johnson, drove the Aggies (3-2, 1-2) 69 yards in the final 1:50 with big passes to Evan Stewart and Moose Muhammad III. Jordan Battle appeared to end the threat with an interception in the end zone, but Brian Branch was flagged for pass interference. That set up one final shot from the 2 with three seconds left, but King's pass to Stewart fell incomplete.

Milroe passed for 111 yards and ran for 183, but also threw an interception and lost two fumbles. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 159 yards after gaining most of his 206 after Young's shoulder injury early against Arkansas. Subbing for an injured Max Johnson (throwing hand), King completed 25 of 46 passes for 253 yards and a pair of touchdowns with an interception. Ultimately, Alabama got a double measure of revenge against the Aggies and coach Jimbo Fisher. Another unranked Texas A&M team handed Alabama its only regular-season loss last year, then Fisher went no-holds barred in response to Nick Saban's comments that the Aggies bought their top recruiting class with NIL money. Once again, the Aggies hung ever so close with the top team, a 23 1/2-point favorite. - Alabama/AP College Football

  10/08/22 - *Bryce YoungJr/2023, Alabama, 5-10, 204 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young didn't start the game against Texas A&M because of sprained right shoulder, leaving Jalen Milroe as his replacement. Aggies starter Max Johnson also was out. The top-ranked Crimson Tide's coach, Nick Saban, hadn't shed much light on the reigning Heisman Trophy winner Young's status all week, calling him day to day. Johnson, who had started the past three games for the Aggies, also was replaced with an injured throwing hand. Haynes King returned to the starting role he lost to the LSU transfer after two games. Unlike Young, Johnson was on the sideline in sweats.

Young came out onto the field for warmups 50 minutes before kickoff, taking snaps alongside the backups, and was even announced as the starter. But he didn't throw along with the other quarterbacks. Young was injured when he landed on his shoulder early in the Arkansas game, and Milroe wound up playing most of the game. Alabama visits No. 8 Tennessee next Saturday in easily the biggest game yet. Young has passed for 1,202 yards and 14 touchdowns against three interceptions this season. He has also run for 154 yards and three scores. - AP College Football

  10/04/22 - Justin EboigberSr/2024, Alabama, 6-4, 297 (DS#14 DT) + More +

Alabama football isn't taking any chances with an injury to a veteran defensive lineman. Justin Eboigbe was held out of the game at Arkansas with a neck injury, Nick Saban said Monday. The senior had appeared in the four previous games but was not on the field for Alabama's 49-26 in over the Razorbacks. Saban said they're referring him to specialists "to make sure we manage it correctly." "We're not going to allow him to play until we get the exact," Saban said Monday, "most expert plan of action for him and his future." Coming off the bench, Eboigbe had 11 stops in the first four games. That included 0.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries. He was part of a banged up defensive line as starter Byron Young played a week after spraining his ankle in the win over Vanderbilt. - Birmingham News

  10/01/22 - *Bryce YoungJr/2023, Alabama, 5-10, 204 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young left the No. 2 Crimson Tide's game against No. 20 Arkansas midway through the second quarter Saturday after an apparent injury to his throwing shoulder. The Heisman Trophy winner came off the field after Alabama's fifth drive ended at its own 42, favoring his right arm and holding it close to his body after attempting a pass that went incomplete. Young, who had already thrown a touchdown pass and run for a score, threw his helmet down before entering the medical tent on the Alabama sideline.

He was then seen leaving the field, running up the tunnel with his arm still pressed close to his side. Young threw for 173 yards before he left with 10:42 remaining in the first half. Jalen Milroe came in for Young and scored a rushing touchdown on Alabama's next offensive possession to put the Tide up 21-0. On the drive before Young exited, he was sacked for a 4-yard loss by Arkansas linebacker Drew Sanders, a teammate of Young's with the Crimson Tide last year. Young landed awkwardly on his front side during the sack but returned for the next drive. His status to return to the game was unclear. - AP College Football

  09/25/22 - Graham NicholsonSr/2025, Alabama, 5-11, 181 (DS#12 K) + More +

Graham Nicholson kicked a tiebreaking 36-yard field goal with 21 seconds left in regulation, and Miami (Ohio) rallied late to stun Northwestern 17-14 on Saturday. It was the first win for the RedHawks (2-2) against against a Big Ten team since it beat Northwestern 44-14 in 2003. Miami went 13-1 that year and was ranked No. 10 in the final AP poll with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger leading the way. "It might have been a little more high scoring if Big Ben was there today," Miami's Chuck Martin joked after getting his first coaching win over a Big Ten foe. "It's hard to beat Big Ten schools. To beat a Big Ten team that Coach (Pat) Fitzgerald coaches is pretty cool for me." And pretty cool for Miami's players too.

Nicholson hit the upright on a previous field-goal attempt and had another blocked. His game-winner capped a 13-play, 58-yard drive. "Like we always say in our locker room, one shot, one kill because nothing in the past matters," Nicholson said. "Despite the fact that I missed those kicks earlier in the game, I still went out there and made the one that mattered." It was Northwestern's (1-3) third straight loss and second shocking one at home, following a 31-24 setback to Southern Illinois last week. Miami tied it at 14 with 7:23 left the fourth when quarterback Aveon Smith scored on a keeper. Keyon Mozee set up the touchdown after he broke free for a 66-yard run, reaching the Northwestern 1-yard line before being forced out of bounds. Mozee led all rushers with 171 yards on 21 carries. - Miami (Ohio)/AP College Football

  09/24/22 - *Bryce YoungJr/2023, Alabama, 5-10, 204 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Bryce Young passed for a season-high 385 yards and four touchdowns and No. 2 Alabama beat Vanderbilt 55-3 Saturday night in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams. It was the first 300-yard game of the season for the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, who didn't play in the fourth quarter and completed 25 of 36 passes. The Crimson Tide (4-0, 1-0) opted to air it out against the Commodores (3-2, 0-1) and finally got big games and plays from multiple receivers. It was the most passing yards for Young since perhaps locking up the Heisman with 421 yards against Georgia in the SEC championship game. "I think it was kind of our plan going into this game that we would spread these guys out more and try to attack them in the secondary," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "We thought we had some pretty good matchups." Alabama outgained Vandy 628-129 in total yards.

Ja'Corey Brooks had a career night, all in the first half when he had six catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton had his biggest game for the Tide: 94 yards on four catches, including a 48-yarder. "We have high expectations for what our guys can do and Ja'Corey certainly didn't disappoint tonight," Saban said. "He had a great start to the game." Jahmyr Gibbs, who started the first three games at tailback, mostly lined up at receiver while Jase McClellan took over in the backfield. McClellan ran for 78 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Gibbs caught three passes for 43 yards and a score. Vanderbilt freshman AJ Swann completed 13 of 26 passes for 115 yards in his second start after throwing for 255 yards and four touchdowns against Northern Illinois. - Alabama/AP College Football

  09/17/22 - *Bryce YoungJr/2023, Alabama, 5-10, 204 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Bryce Young passed for three touchdowns and rushed for a fourth, Will Anderson Jr. scored on an interception return and No. 2 Alabama rolled to a 63-7 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. The Crimson Tide (3-0) scored on offense, defense and special teams in the first six minutes and raced to a 28-0 first-quarter lead. It was a whirlwind start against the 49 1/2-point underdog Warhawks (1-2) a week after a much closer-than-expected victory over Texas cost Alabama the No. 1 ranking. It wasn't a seamless performance for either the Tide offense or Young, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. He completed 13 of 18 passes for 236 yards but also threw his first two interceptions of the season. He did run for a 7-yard score, where he spun near the goal line and dove across.

Anderson returned his first career interception 25 yards for a touchdown, one play after Young's initial pick. The national sacks leader a year ago, he also got his second sack of the season. Malachi Moore got a short scoop-and-score after Ja'Corey Brooks' blocked punt. Chandler Rogers completed 11 of 21 passes 96 yards for Louisiana-Monroe and was intercepted once. Malik Jackson ran for an 11-yard touchdown. Jahmyr Gibbs remained the Tide's most versatile weapon. He gained 36 yards on nine carries and caught four passes for 65 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown when he juked one defender and shed a couple of downfield tackle attempts. The Tide outgained Louisiana-Monroe 509-169. - Alabama/AP College Football

TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 2: 13. Jordan Battle, Sr, SS, Alabama, 6-0, 206, 1,...In a 20-19 win over Texas, Battle had three tackles, an assist and helped keep running back Bijan Robinson from getting loose. But Battle was conflicted against early play-action which sometimes helped the Texas passing game. Previous week, No. 15: Despite being a strong safety, Battle looked as good or better in coverage as he did tackling in Bama's 55-0 dismantling of Utah State. He had four tackles and held Utah State to 136 total yards, only 57 in the air. - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout

TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 2: 4. Bryce Young, Jr, QB, Alabama, 6-0, 194, 1,...Under pressure by a tough Texas defense for three quarters, Young finally looked like a Heisman Trophy winner with two scoring drives in the fourth quarter. On one he scrambled to his left and threw a touchdown into the end zone. On the other, he scrambled 20 yards to help set up the winning field goal with ten seconds left. Previous week, No. 4: Bryce Young did Bryce Young things in the first half of No. 1 Alabama's 55-0 trouncing of Utah State, throwing five touchdowns in the first half and running 96 yards on four carries. - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout

TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 2: 1. Will Anderson Jr., Jr, OLB, Alabama, 6-3, 243, 1,...Anderson had good and bad moments in a 20-19 win over Texas with two tackles, three assists and key sack in the fourth quarter that forced the Longhorns to settle for a field goal. He also committed a couple of senseless penalties, including a late hit that opened the way for a field goal that put Texas ahead, 13-10. Previous week, No.1: In Alabama's resounding 55-0 season-opening win over Utah State Saturday, was a factor. His personal stats weren't huge - five total tackles, three solo - but his play was, including a tackle that blew up Utah running back Logan Bonner that validated the linebacker's moniker "The Terminator." - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout
