  Jase McClellan rushed for a career-high 156 yards and two touchdowns and Jermaine Burton caught a pair of scoring passes from Bryce Young during No. 8 Alabama's 34-0 win over Austin Peay on Saturday. The Crimson Tide (9-2, No. 8 CFP) took awhile to get going against FCS Austin Peay (7-4) in a Bryant-Denny Stadium that wasn't much more than half full. But McClellan and Burton had their biggest games for the Tide, which had already been knocked out of Southeastern Conference contention. Burton posted his first 100-yard receiving game since transferring from Georgia, with seven catches for 128 yards. McClellan subbed for injured star Jahmyr Gibbs (ankle) and scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards.

For much of the game the Tide was about as listless as the crowd, until a 50-yarder from Young to Burton provided a little bit of a spark. McClellan rushed it in two plays later for his second score of the game, and the defense recovered a fumble on the next possession to set up an Alabama field goal. Young was 18 of 24 for 221 yards and played into the fourth quarter. Mike DiLiello passed for 147 yards for Austin Peay, but was intercepted twice. Drae McCray had 12 catches for 92 yards. The Governors had their opportunities in the first half thanks to the Tide's two first-quarter turnovers but could not take advantage either time, including a fourth-down stop in the red zone. Maddux Trujillo missed a short field goal for Austin Peay after Alabama's second fumble.   2022 BRONKO NAGURSKI TROPHY FINALIST: Will Anderson Jr., LB, Alabama (6-4, 243, Jr., Hampton, Ga.): The 2021 Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner will have a chance to match Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern (1995-96) as the Trophy's only repeat winner. The junior linebacker has had another standout season for the Crimson Tide. He leads Alabama in tackles for loss (14.0, t-11th in FBS) and sacks (8.0, t-12th) with combined losses totaling 103 yards. Anderson led the nation in both categories last year at 17.5 sacks and 34.5 TFL's (an NCAA record since 2000). He is currently in the top three of Alabama's career lists in both categories. He has recorded at least one tackle for loss in 28 of his 38 career games. Anderson is tied for seventh on the team with 42 overall tackles (18 solos), has an interception with a 25-yard return for a touchdown, and owns 10 quarterback hurries. In addition to Anderson in 2021, Alabama's other Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner was defensive end Jonathan Allen in 2016.   NOV 14 SEC CO-DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Byron Young, DL, Alabama,..Turned in one of the most complete defensive performances of his career in a 30-24 win at No. 11 Ole Miss. Recorded career highs with 11 total tackles (six solo) and two sacks in Oxford. Recorded sacks for a loss 9 yards, including a 6-yard sack of the Rebels' Jaxon Dart on 3rd and 14 with 53 second remaining in the game. Forced the Crimson Tide's only turnover over the game, a fumble on the Ole Miss 23-yard line that resulted in a Alabama touchdown in the final seconds of the first half that cut the Rebels lead to 17-14. Added two more quarterback hurries and batted down a pass. Helped limit Ole Miss to just 7 points in their final seven possessions of the game as the Tide rallied from a 10-0 first-half deficit. - SEC Football

  Bryce Young threw three touchdowns passes and No. 10 Alabama scored on four consecutive possessions spanning the second and third quarters, rallying to beat No. 11 Mississippi 30-24 on Saturday. Will Reichard kicked field goals of 23 and 49 yards in the fourth quarter to snap a 24-all tie. Alabama (8-2, 5-2 SEC) secured the win by forcing an incomplete pass into the Crimson Tide end zone in the final minute to extend its seven-game winning streak over the Rebels.

Young finished 21 of 33 for 209 yards, including touchdown throws to Jermaine Burton, Cameron Latu and Ja'Courey Brooks. Alabama trailed 10-0 early and 17-14 at halftime. The Crimson Tide made efficient use of 317 yards of total offense and a defense that stopped three Ole Miss opportunities in the final quarter. Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2) was led by Quinshon Judkins, who had 135 yards on 25 carries and a pair of 1-yard TD runs. Judkins highlighted the game's final drive with runs of 35 and 13 yards to get the Rebels to the Alabama 14-yard line before the Crimson Tide got the game-clinching stop. - Alabama/AP College Football

  For a while, Eli Ricks wasn't getting much playing time for Alabama football. Sure, he was part of the cornerback rotation to start the season. But outside of blowout wins over Utah State, Louisiana-Monroe and Vanderbilt, Ricks hadn't seen much playing time at all: three defensive snaps against Arkansas, to be exact. Then he got his chance with a starting spot against Mississippi State. Whether he will be the starter for the rest of the season remains to be seen, but he certainly looked the part against the Bulldogs.

Before transferring to the Crimson Tide last offseason, Ricks was with the Tigers for two seasons, playing in 14 games. His sophomore year was not a full season, though, because of an injury. Still, he showed plenty of potential in his freshman season in 2020, earning freshman All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America. - Montgomery Advertiser

  Alabama will be without a veteran defensive lineman for the rest of the season. Senior Justin Eboigbe won't return this fall after injuring his neck, Saban said Wednesday on the SEC teleconference. When asked if he'd be back on the field this fall, "I don't think so," was Saban's response. "He had a procedure done that would enhance his opportunity to be able to play in the future," Saban said, "but I don't think that's going to come this season." Eboigbe appeared in the first four games of the season but did not play in the road game at Arkansas on Oct. 1. Saban announced his injury after that without a timetable to return. The senior from Forest Park, Georgia recorded 19 tackles in each of the previous seasons. He had 11 stops in the first four games of this season. - Birmingham News

  Bryce Young passed for 249 yards and two touchdowns and No. 6 Alabama's defense continued its domination of No. 24 Mississippi State in a 30-6 victory Saturday night. The Crimson Tide (7-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) rebounded from their first loss of the season, a 52-49 defeat to No. 3 Tennessee. Alabama defenders got a measure of redemption after giving up more points than any Alabama team since 1907. The normally prolific Will Rogers and the Bulldogs (5-3, 3-3) still couldn't reach the end zone against Alabama until the final play. It was the first touchdown Mississippi State had managed against the Tide in three meetings under coach Mike Leach, getting outscored (120-15).

Rogers completed 30 of 60 passes for 231 yards. Jo'quavious Marks scored on a 1-yard run to end the game. Young completed 21 of 35 passes with a couple of long ones on scrambles, including a 31-yard TD to JoJo Earle. This one didn't turn into a showdown of star quarterbacks, however, but a statement game for Bama's defense. The Tide, which started LSU transfer cornerback Eli Ricks for the first time, had 15 pass breakups and four sacks after getting victimized by the Volunteers. Ricks, who didn't play against Tennessee, and fellow cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry each broke up four passes.   Alabama football coach Nick Saban released a statement Wednesday, addressing a video of wide receiver Jermaine Burton's exit from the field against Tennessee in which a fan said Burton smacked her. "We are aware of the situation with Jermaine Burton as he was exiting the field Saturday," Saban's statement read. "We are currently working to gather more information." A video filmed from the Neyland Stadium crowd Saturday was posted to TikTok on Tuesday, showing Tennessee fans storming the field and Burton is seen walking back toward the locker room through Vols fans who were celebrating a 52-49 over Alabama football. Emily Isaacs, who posted the video to her TikTok account, wrote in the caption "Jermaine Burton smacking me in the head while walking past him after their loss Saturday." The woman in the video crosses in front of Burton.

Shortly after, Burton appears to raise his right arm and make contact with her. She stops her run onto the field, grabs the right side of her head and she turns around to look back at Burton who continues toward the locker room. Representatives from the Knoxville and University of Tennessee police departments told The Tuscaloosa News that the incident has not been reported as of Wednesday afternoon. Burton transferred to the Crimson Tide this offseason after winning a national championship with Georgia over Alabama in January. The junior became an immediate starter, filling one starting receiver spot in each of the first six games. Burton didn't start against Tennessee but he had his second-highest snap total of the season with 51. - Montgomery Advertiser

  No. 3 Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, who missed last week's game against Texas A&M with a sprained shoulder, started Saturday's game at No. 6 Tennessee. According to coach Nick Saban, the Heisman-winning quarterback was considered a game-time decision all week. Young has completed 90 of 134 passes for 1,202 yards and 14 touchdowns this season.   Bryce Young has been able to practice some this week ahead of Tennessee, Nick Saban said Wednesday morning. "He's making progress," Saban said. He added that Alabama will continue to evaluate Young as the week progresses. The Alabama football quarterback injured his throwing shoulder in the game against Arkansas on Oct. 1. He left in the second quarter and has not played since. Saban called it a "little AC sprain" in Young's shoulder after Arkansas. He didn't play against Texas A&M, but Saban said Young wanted to enter the game late. "I didn't think he was in a position that he could go and effectively do his job in the way he's capable of doing it," Saban said Wednesday. "He's made a lot of progress from that point, so hopefully that will change in the near future."

The injury stemmed from an incident in which Young landed on his shoulder awkwardly after running toward the sideline to evade a rusher against Arkansas. Young played briefly after that, but he eventually left the game and went to the medical tent to be evaluated. Young stayed in uniform through the rest of the game After the win over the Razorbacks, Saban said he thought Young was OK and that it was not serious. In the week leading up to the Texas A&M game, Saban deemed Young a game-time-decision. Young joined the team on the field for warmups in uniform, but he did not throw any footballs. - Montgomery Advertiser

  OCT 10 MAC EAST DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Graham Nicholson, Miami, K, So., Cincinnati, Ohio (Summit Country Day),...Graham Nicholson was perfect on the day, connecting on 2-of-2 field goals and 3-of-3 on extra points in Miami's 27-24 win over Kent State. The sophomore knocked in a season-long 49-yard field goal and added a 45-yarder as well in the victory. He added two touchbacks on six kickoffs as well. - MAC Football

  Jalen Milroe threw for three touchdowns in his first start and No. 1 Alabama made a final goal-line stand to escape with a 24-20 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday night in a battle of backup quarterbacks. Playing without injured Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, the Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) needed two late stops from Will Anderson Jr. and the defense. They got them, just barely, to survive four turnovers and two missed field goals. Haynes King, subbing for injured starter Max Johnson, drove the Aggies (3-2, 1-2) 69 yards in the final 1:50 with big passes to Evan Stewart and Moose Muhammad III. Jordan Battle appeared to end the threat with an interception in the end zone, but Brian Branch was flagged for pass interference. That set up one final shot from the 2 with three seconds left, but King's pass to Stewart fell incomplete.

Milroe passed for 111 yards and ran for 183, but also threw an interception and lost two fumbles. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 159 yards after gaining most of his 206 after Young's shoulder injury early against Arkansas. Subbing for an injured Max Johnson (throwing hand), King completed 25 of 46 passes for 253 yards and a pair of touchdowns with an interception. Ultimately, Alabama got a double measure of revenge against the Aggies and coach Jimbo Fisher. Another unranked Texas A&M team handed Alabama its only regular-season loss last year, then Fisher went no-holds barred in response to Nick Saban's comments that the Aggies bought their top recruiting class with NIL money. Once again, the Aggies hung ever so close with the top team, a 23 1/2-point favorite. - Alabama/AP College Football

  Alabama quarterback Bryce Young didn't start the game against Texas A&M because of sprained right shoulder, leaving Jalen Milroe as his replacement. Aggies starter Max Johnson also was out. The top-ranked Crimson Tide's coach, Nick Saban, hadn't shed much light on the reigning Heisman Trophy winner Young's status all week, calling him day to day. Johnson, who had started the past three games for the Aggies, also was replaced with an injured throwing hand. Haynes King returned to the starting role he lost to the LSU transfer after two games. Unlike Young, Johnson was on the sideline in sweats.

Young came out onto the field for warmups 50 minutes before kickoff, taking snaps alongside the backups, and was even announced as the starter. But he didn't throw along with the other quarterbacks. Young was injured when he landed on his shoulder early in the Arkansas game, and Milroe wound up playing most of the game. Alabama visits No. 8 Tennessee next Saturday in easily the biggest game yet. Young has passed for 1,202 yards and 14 touchdowns against three interceptions this season. He has also run for 154 yards and three scores. - AP College Football

  Alabama football isn't taking any chances with an injury to a veteran defensive lineman. Justin Eboigbe was held out of the game at Arkansas with a neck injury, Nick Saban said Monday. The senior had appeared in the four previous games but was not on the field for Alabama's 49-26 in over the Razorbacks. Saban said they're referring him to specialists "to make sure we manage it correctly." "We're not going to allow him to play until we get the exact," Saban said Monday, "most expert plan of action for him and his future." Coming off the bench, Eboigbe had 11 stops in the first four games. That included 0.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries. He was part of a banged up defensive line as starter Byron Young played a week after spraining his ankle in the win over Vanderbilt. - Birmingham News
