Montana State Football   Adam Jones ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns as No. 2 Montana State used a season-high 227 rushing yards to end No. 7 Stephen F. Austin's eight-game winning streak with a 44-28 victory Saturday in an FCS quarterfinal matchup. Montana State will face the winner of No. 3 Montana and No. 11 South Dakota in the semifinals. The Bobcats scored on six of their first eight possessions and never trailed, improving to 12-2 while earning a spot in the national semifinals. Stephen F. Austin, which had not lost since Sept. 6, finished the year 11-3. Montana State struck first midway through the opening quarter when Jones capped a 10-play, 65-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.

Justin Lamson added two touchdown passes in the second quarter, connecting with Jones for a 21-yard score and Luvens Valcin for a 3-yard touchdown to build a 24-0 lead. Stephen F. Austin responded just before halftime, driving 75 yards in 1:22 and converting a two-point play on Sam Vidlak's 11-yard touchdown pass to Clayton Wayland to pull within 24-8. The Lumberjacks cut the margin to 24-14 early in the third quarter on Jaylen Jenkins' 5-yard run, but Montana State answered with a Myles Sansted field goal and a Lamson 5-yard rushing touchdown to restore control. Jenkins scored again late in the third to keep the Lumberjacks within reach. Any momentum ended early in the fourth when Jones broke free for a 16-yard touchdown run on the Bobcats' first snap of the quarter. Stephen F. Austin became just the second FCS team to score 28 points against Montana State this season. No other FCS opponent topped 17 points in regulation. - AP College Football

Indiana Football   Indiana is the No. 1 team in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll for the first time after going through the regular season and Big Ten championship game 13-0, ending Ohio State's 14-week run atop the rankings. The Hoosiers' 13-10 win over the Buckeyes in Indianapolis on Saturday night made them the unanimous pick for No. 1 as they looked ahead to top seeding for their second straight appearance in the 12-team College Football Playoff. Georgia, which beat Alabama by three touchdowns in the Southeastern Conference title game, moved up one spot to No. 2 for its highest ranking of the season. Ohio State, the defending national champion, slipped two spots to No. 3.

Texas Tech, a 27-point winner over BYU in the Big 12 championship game, also has its highest ranking of the season after rising one rung to No. 4. Oregon was No. 5 and followed by Mississippi, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Miami. Miami moved up two spots and returned to the top 10 for the first time since mid-October. Alabama and BYU each dropped one spot, to Nos. 11 and 12. Among Group of Five teams, American Conference champion Tulane jumped four spots to No. 17 for its highest ranking in two years. Sun Belt Conference champion James Madison remained No. 19. The final AP Top 25 will be released Jan. 20, the day after the national championship game. - AP College Football

Washington State Football   Caden Pinnick threw two of his five touchdown passes to Zach Jones, Jordan Fisher had 140 yards rushing, which included a 50-yard touchdown run, and UC Davis beat Rhode Island 47-20 on Saturday night in the second round of the FCS playoffs. No. 8 seed UC Davis (9-2) hosts unseeded Illinois State, which knocked off No. 1 seed North Dakota State 29-28 earlier Saturday, in the quarterfinals. Pinnick was 16-of-28 passing for 266 yards and had 99 yards rushing on 15 carries. Pinnick threw a 15-yard TD pass to Johnson with 18 seconds left in the second quarter and, after Rhode Island went three-and-out on the opening drive of the second half, Fisher's touchdown run less 2 1/2 minutes into the third quarter to give the Aggies a 25-20 lead. Antwain Littleton, Jr. had 123 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 16 carries for No. 9 seed Rhode Island (11-3).

UC Davis outgained the Rams 141-38 total yards in the first quarter but led just 3-0 after Hunter Ridley missed a 33-yard field-goal attempt on the first play of the second. Rhode Island responded with a nine-play, 80-yard drive that culminated when Littleton ran for a 2-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal. Littleton ripped off a 63-yard scoring run with 7:05 left in the first half and Marquis Buchanan caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from Devin Farrell that gave URI a 20-11 lead about five minutes later. Jackson Sievers forced a fumble by Connor Finer that was recovered by Nate Rutchena and two plays later Pinnick threw a 9-yard TD pass to Ian Simpson. Samuel Gbatu Jr., who finished with 121 yards receiving, caught a 27-yard scoring strike from Pinnick on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it 40-20. Farrell threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Buchanan to cap the scoring with 1:11 remaining. - AP College Football

Miami Football   Duke won its first outright Atlantic Coast Conference title since 1962 and threw the College Football Playoff into chaos on Saturday night when Darian Mensah connected with Jeremiah Hasley for a 1-yard touchdown on a fourth-down play in overtime, and the unranked Blue Devils held on to beat No. 16 Virginia 27-20. The Blue Devils (8-5) are unlikely to make the playoff field, opening the door for a second Group of Five team - likely James Madison - to make it. Duke last won a share of the ACC regular-season title in 1989, sharing it with Virginia in Steve Spurrier's final season as the Blue Devils' coach. The conference championship game was created in 2005, and Duke got there this year thanks to a five-team tiebreaker. Virginia (10-3), the ACC regular-season champion, would have reached the CFP for the first time in school history with a victory but fell short when Chandler Morris was intercepted by Luke Mergott on the Cavaliers' first offensive play of OT. Mensah threw for 196 yards and two scores - both to Hasley - while Nate Sheppard ran for 97 yards and a score for Duke. Virginia trailed by 10 with 5:02 left in regulation, but got a field goal from Will Bettridge before Morris capped a 10-play, 96-yard drive with an 18-yard strike to Eli Wood in the left corner of the end zone with 22 seconds left to tie it at 20-all.

In the extra period, Sheppard got the Blue Devils to the Virginia 2 with three runs. Duke was stuffed twice before Mensah rolled out and found Hasley for the go-ahead score. Virginia was flagged for roughing passer on the throw, meaning it had to start its overtime possession at the 40 instead of the 25. Morris fired downfield on first down and was picked off by Mergott, setting off a raucuous celebration. Morris, who finished 21 of 40 for 216 yards with two TDs and two interceptions, was in tears after the game. J'Mari Taylor, the ACC's leading rusher, was limited to 65 yards on 15 carries and scored on an 11-yard reception. Duke established control of the line of scrimmage early. The Blue Devils controlled the clock in the first half, putting together the two longest drives in ACC championship game history - 9:38 and 8:02 - culminating with a 12-yard touchdown catch by Hasley and a 16-yard run by Sheppard to take a 14-7 lead into halftime. Duke coach Manny Diaz, who ran a fake field goal that led to the Blue Devils' dramatic win over rival North Carolina, called a fake punt on Duke's go-ahead drive in the second quarter. It worked, with Kevin O'Connor taking the direct snap and running up the middle for 6 yards. - Duke/AP College Football

Indiana Football   Fernando Mendoza's 17-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Sarratt gave No. 2 Indiana the lead midway through the third quarter and the Hoosiers' stingy defense shut down No. 1 Ohio State the rest of the way in a 13-10 victory on Saturday night for their first Big Ten championship since 1967. Indiana likely locked up the top seed in the College Football Playoff while extending the best record in school history to 13-0. The Hoosiers are also now poised to claim the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press Top 25 for the first time. They did it by snapping a 30-game losing streak against the Buckeyes that stretched to 1988. Indiana also ended major college football's longest winning streak at 16 games, sealing the win with a 33-yard pass from Mendoza to Charlie Becker on third down, a play that took the clock down to the 2-minute timeout. Ohio State fell to 12-1 overall though its quest to win back-to-back national championships for the first time will likely begin with the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.

The Buckeyes had a chance to retake the lead on fourth-and-1 from the Indiana 5-yard line late in the third quarter. But a replay review overturned the call on the field, determining Julian Sayin came up short. They also had a chance to tie the score with 2:48 to play, but Jayden Fielding missed a 29-yard field goal wide left. The two quarterbacks dueling for the Heisman Trophy essentially played to a draw. Mendoza was injured on the first offensive play of the game but returned after missing one play and finished 15 of 23 for 222 yards and the one TD and one interception. Sayin was 21 of 29 for 258 yards, one TD and one interception. But when the big plays needed to be made, Mendoza usually got the job done Indiana took a 3-0 lead after Sayin was picked off in the first quarter, but the Buckeyes turned Mendoza's miscue into a 17-yard TD pass to Carnell Tate for a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter. The teams traded second quarter field goals as the Buckeyes took a 10-6 lead, but Mendoza found neatly tucked a TD pass into Sarratt near the sideline on Indiana's first possession of the third quarter and that was all they needed. - Indiana/AP College Football

Georgia Football   Gunner Stockton and Georgia finally put an end to Alabama's mastery of the rivalry between Southeastern Conference powers. Stockton threw three touchdown passes as the third-ranked Bulldogs solidified their position for a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff and beat Alabama in the SEC championship game for the first time, pounding the 10th-ranked Crimson Tide 28-7 on Saturday. Stockton, who completed 20 of 26 passes for 156 yards and rushed for 39 yards, was named the game's MVP. It was the first victory over Alabama for Georgia's fourth-year players, including Stockton. "We approached it the same, like it was a big game, and didn't make it bigger than it was," Stockton said. Georgia (12-1, No. 3 CFP) had been 0-4 against Alabama in the SEC title game and 1-7 against the Crimson Tide under coach Kirby Smart. Playing in their fifth straight league championship game, the Bulldogs earned their fourth title under Smart and 16th overall. During a team meeting at the start of the week, Georgia players who had a win over Alabama were asked to stand up. "None of them stood up," Smart said. Now the Bulldogs can stand. They also can brag about winning back-to-back SEC championships. "I thought it hit right between the eyes of doing it for the seniors," Smart said.

The lopsided loss forces Alabama (10-3, No. 9 CFP) to worry about its standing with the College Football Playoff selection committee. The Crimson Tide were believed to be in good position when they moved up one spot in last week's CFP ranking, but the loss to the Bulldogs provides renewed cause for concern that the Crimson Tide could miss the playoff for the second consecutive season under coach Kalen DeBoer. "We fell short today, but I'm proud of our season," DeBoer said. "Getting to the SEC championship, getting to this great game, there's a lot to build off of." Alabama will learn its playoff fate on Sunday. "If this game applies to and takes away from our resume, I don't think that's right," DeBoer said. "I really don't." Georgia led 21-0 before Alabama's Ty Simpson threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Germie Bernard early in the fourth quarter. Georgia will play a CFP quarterfinal game in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. - Georgia/AP College Football

Prairie View AM Football   Cameron Peters accounted for 394 yards and two touchdowns and Prairie View A&M beat Jackson State 23-21 on Saturday to win its first Southwestern Athletic Conference championship since 2009. Peters was 17-of-28 passing for 294 yards with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Bonner. Peters finished with 100 yards rushing that included a 7-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Panthers chewed up 9:36 of the fourth quarter with a 16-play, 95-yard drive before Peters fumbled the ball at the 1, but Jackson State punted the ball back three plays later. On the ensuing possession, Peters ran up the middle for a 12-yard gain to convert on third-and-8 from near midfield with 2:14 remaining. The Panthers then ran out the clock. Diego Alfaro kicked field goals from 19, 30 and 42 yards for Prairie View A&M (10-3). Jared Lockhart threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Naylon Dupree for Jackson State (9-3). JaCobian Morgan scored on a 29-yard run. Ahmad Miller ended the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. It was Jackson State's ninth appearance in the title game but for just the second time against Prairie View A&M. The Tigers won the previous championship matchup, 27-10 in 2021. - AP College Football
