Hendon Hooker threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 112 yards and a score to lead No. 11 Tennessee to a 38-33 victory over No. 20 Florida Saturday. It was Tennessee's second win over Florida in the last 18 meetings and snapped a six-game losing streak in the series. The win gave the Volunteers their first 4-0 start since 2016. Tennessee (4-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) took control in the fourth quarter when it traveled 87 yards for a TD after a fumble by Gators (2-2, 0-2) quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Richardson had a career-high 453 passing yards and two touchdowns and ran for 62 and two scores in a raucous Neyland Stadium. Tennessee led 17-14 at halftime following a first half loaded with big offensive plays on both sides. Hooker, who shook off what was reported as an upper body injury, threw for 248 yards, including a 70-yard connection with Bru McCoy for the Vols' longest play from scrimmage this season. A 99-yard drive that ended with a one-yard pass from Hooker to McCoy, gave Tennessee the lead 7 seconds before the break. Richardson had a career-high 220 passing yards by intermission and connected with his first TD pass of the season. Keon Zipperer broke three arm tackles on his way to a 44-yard score. - Tennessee/AP College Football

Kurtis Rourke set a single-game passing record for Ohio with 537 yards and his fourth touchdown pass went to Jacoby Jones with 52 seconds remaining to help Ohio hold off FCS-member Fordham 59-52 on Saturday. Fordham, trailing 53-52, drove to its 40 with five seconds left but the final play ended in Bryce Houston's fumble return for a touchdown to prevent an FCS-FBS upset. Rourke was 41-of-50 passing with four touchdowns for Ohio (2-2), which totaled 692 yards. He also carried it 10 times for 45 yards and a score. Jones and Tyler Foster each had two touchdown grabs. Tim DeMorat's record-breaking day came up just short for Fordham (3-1), which was trying to open the season 4-0 for the first time since 2013 when the Rams opened with ten straight wins. DeMorat threw his school-record sixth TD pass, the fourth to Fotis Kokosioulis for an 84-yarder, to put the Rams up 49-38 with 53 seconds left in the third quarter. DeMorat was 27 of 35 for 503 yards and Kokosioulis had 13 receptions for a school-record 320 yards and four TDs. Kokosioulis' scores went for 33, 74, 45 and 84 yards. - Ohio/AP College Football

Nate Wiggins broke up Sam Hartman's fourth-down pass in the end zone to help No. 5 Clemson hold off No. 21 Wake Forest 51-45 in double overtime on Saturday. Wiggins had been targeted frequently by Hartman and the Wake Forest receivers but came through to knock away Hartman's final ball for A.T. Perry. He fell to the end zone turf, then sprung up to join his team in celebration after a wild shootout between the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference's Atlantic Division Demon Deacons and the preseason league favorite Tigers. "We'll get this defense fixed," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said on the ESPN postgame interview. "But man, this offense … all the big plays, they never flinched. That's what it's all about. I'm just really proud of them. they grew up a little bit tonight." D.J. Uiagalelei threw for 375 yards and five touchdowns to lead Clemson (4-0, 2-0 ACC), including the go-ahead score over the middle to Davis Allen to start the second overtime.

The Tigers also came up with a few key plays defensively at big moments late to take some pressure off an injury-battered secondary, including Tyler Davis teaming with linemate Myles Murphy to sack Hartman on a potentially winning Wake Forest drive that had neared midfield late in regulation. Hartman threw for 337 yards and a program-record six touchdowns for Wake Forest (3-1, 0-1), including two each to Jahmal Banks and Donavon Greene. But the Demon Deacons stalled out near midfield on a potential winning drive to end regulation, then couldn't stop the Tigers in the first OT after starting off with Hartman's TD throw to Perry. It marked Clemson's 14th straight win in the series, with Wake Forest's last win coming in 2008 - which led to the ouster of Tommy Bowden as coach and Swinney being named the interim. - Clemson/AP College Football

Brock Bowers scored two more touchdowns and No. 1 Georgia survived a sloppy performance and surprisingly gritty effort from Kent State, holding off the Golden Flashes 39-22 Saturday. The Bulldogs (4-0) turned it over three times, struggled in the red zone, were burned on a fake punt and gave up several big plays to Kent State (1-3) in what was easily their worst performance of the season. Was it bad enough to knock Georgia out of the top spot in the rankings? Check back Sunday. Kent State had a chance to make it a one-score game with less than 13 minutes remaining after Marquez Cooper scored on a 1-yard run to cap a 12-play, 75-yard drive. But a two-point conversion failed, leaving the Bulldogs with a 32-22 lead. Georgia then finished off the Golden Flashes, driving 75 yards for Kendall Milton's 1-yard plunge on fourth-and-goal with 5 1/2 minutes to go. Bowers, coming off a three-touchdown performance against South Carolina, took it to the end zone on the second play of the game with a dazzling 75-yard run.

Going in motion to take a handoff, the sophomore tight end found a big hole around right end and never stopped running, turning on his impressive speed down the sideline in front of the Georgia bench. Bowers also scored on a 2-yard run, strengthening his credentials as one of the nation's most dynamic offensive weapons. But Bowers was the exception for Georgia on this day. Ladd McConkey lost a pair of fumbles, once on a punt return, another after catching a pass in Kent State territory. Stetson Bennett threw his first interception of the season, though he did score on a 1-yard dive, sticking the ball across the line while falling on his back with 8 seconds left in the first half to send the Bulldogs to the locker room up 26-13. Georgia settled for three field goals by Jack Podlesny after driving inside Kent State's 20-yard line, which allowed the Golden Flashes to hang around. Kent State was facing a team currently ranked in the AP Top 25 for the third time in its first four games, having already lost to No. 18 Washington and No. 6 Oklahoma. - Georgia/AP College Football

  09/22/22 - QB JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice + More +

J.T. Daniels threw for 203 yards and a touchdown to lead West Virginia to a 33-10 win over Virginia Tech on Thursday night. Freshman CJ Donaldson rushed for 106 yards and West Virginia (2-2) got a strong performance from its defense to win its second straight game after losing the first two. The Mountaineers, who beat Virginia Tech for the second consecutive season, scored on five straight possessions spanning the first and second half. Daniels’ 24-yard touchdown pass to Sam James with 11 seconds left in the first half gave the Mountaineers a 13-7 lead, and they never trailed again.

The Hokies (2-2) closed within 16-10 on a field goal by Will Ross with 4:19 left in the third quarter. West Virginia answered, scoring on a 6-yard run by Justin Johnson Jr. with 14:13 left in the game. The Hokies had West Virginia stopped twice on the drive, but personal foul penalties on Norell Pollard and Dax Hollifield kept the drive alive. Penalties hindered the Hokies all night. They committed 15 for 132 yards. - West Virginia/AP College Football

Grayson McCall threw two long scoring strikes to freshman Jared Brown and ran for a score - all in the first quarter - and Coastal Carolina breezed to a 41-24 victory over Georgia State on Thursday night. McCall hit Brown for a 50-yard score on the first play from scrimmage and the pair hooked up again for a 53-yarder as Coastal Carolina (4-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead just 2:53 into the Sun Belt Conference opener. Tucker Gregg scored on a 4-yard run to get Georgia State (0-4) within seven, but McCall capped a 10-play 75-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run and the Chanticleers led 21-7 after one quarter. The Panthers never got closer than 10 points from there.

McCall completed 19 of 27 passes for 248 yards. He set a school record with touchdown passes in 17 straight games. Brown finished with five catches for 129 yards. Gregg's TD run was the 19th of his career, tying the Panthers' record. Jontrey Hunter picked off a pass from Chanticleers' backup Jarrett Guest and returned it 77 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Guest had a 5-yard TD run later in the period. The Chanticleers and Panthers have split the six games they've played. Neither team has a home win in the series. Coastal Carolina has won seven straight dating back to last year and has started 4-0 for a third straight season. Georgia State was held to 78 yards rushing on 33 attempts. The Panthers came in averaging 231.3 yards on the ground. - Coastal Carolina/AP College Football

Georgia Southern coach Clay Helton said after Saturday's loss to UAB that inside linebacker and team captain Todd Bradley-Glenn suffered a dislocated elbow that caused him to leave the game near the close of the third quarter. "We'll see how significant it is," Helton said. "They did get it back in place and they've got it slinged up. Depending on what the MRI says later on, we'll see how it goes." Bradley-Glenn, in three quarters of play, made four solo tackles and assisted on three others and also had a quarterback hurry. He is in his seventh year after a series of season-ending football injuries and overcoming cancer in high school. He voted one of the team captains before the 2022 opener. - Savannah Morning News

Cam Rising threw for 224 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in three quarters to help No. 14 Utah rout San Diego State 35-7 on Saturday night. Rising is the first Utah quarterback since 2017 to pass for 200 or more yards in the first three games of the season. The Utes (2-1) forced a pair of turnovers and scored touchdowns following both takeaways. Utah totaled 398 yards and held an opponent to a single touchdown for the second consecutive game. The Utes totaled 309 yards over the final three quarters. "We just couldn't get in a rhythm offensively (in the first quarter)," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "But once we got going and got momentum, the floodgates kind of opened and we put the game away mid-third quarter." San Diego State (1-2) lost starting quarterback Braxton Burmeister to an eye injury in the first quarter and never got on track offensively.

The Aztecs failed to convert a third down until midway through the third quarter and did not surpass 100 total yards of offense until the final minute of the quarter. "Braxton got a thumb in the eye," Aztecs coach Brady Hoke said. "It was just black for him at one time and blurred for most of the game. He couldn't see." Third-string quarterback Kyle Crum directed San Diego State for most of the final three quarters. He threw for 53 yards and touchdown and also had an interception. Utah roared to life on offense in the second quarter. Rising threw touchdown passes on three consecutive drives to help the Utes take a 21-0 halftime lead. He got Utah on the board with a 30-yard strike to Brant Kuithe. His second touchdown pass was a 13-yard toss to Solomon Enis in the back of the end zone. Rising capped it off with a 15-yard pass to Devaughn Vele with 20 seconds left in the half. We didn't get the pressure we needed on the QB," Aztecs defensive end Jonah Tavai said. "Obviously, Cam Rising is a great player, and he did a wonderful job." Rising ended up completing 10 of 12 passes for 123 yards in the second quarter alone. - Utah/AP College Football
