Nick Singleton can't seem to shake it. Everywhere the Penn State phenom turns, he still manages to see his record-setting Rose Bowl run. Singleton's dash through Utah's defense, one that encapsulated his electrifying freshman season, happened five weeks ago. Friends keep sending him the highlight anyway, and he can't help but notice when it pops up on social media. Singleton even admitted that he would look up the 87-yard touchdown himself and relive it in the days following Penn State's 35-21 win. And who could blame him? "Back then, I would watch it," Singleton said with a smile. "I was feeling good." Singleton knows that jaw-dropping moment in Pasadena is going to be replayed over and over again.

It's going to be remembered like Saquon Barkley's and Ki-Jana Carter's runs at the Rose Bowl. He knows that's something to be cherished. But Singleton also knows he has to move on. That was his point of emphasis when he met with reporters on Tuesday afternoon for the first time since Pasadena. "Now you have to worry about what's next," Singleton said in the Beaver Stadium media room. "Now you have to worry about this season." Some freshmen might let a year like the one Singleton had get to their heads. Singleton was named the Big Ten's freshman of the year and a freshman All-American by several national outlets after leading Penn State with 1,061 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. The five-star prospect from Governor Mifflin ended the campaign with seven runs of 40-plus yards, second in the FBS. - Tribune Review

Nick Singleton scored two touchdowns and ran for 113 of his 122 yards in the first half and the defense of No. 14 Penn State smothered Maryland in a 30-0 win on Saturday. Tight end Brenton Strange caught a touchdown pass and Jake Pinegar kicked three field goals for the Nittany Lions (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten, No. 14 CFP), who beat Maryland for the seventh time in nine games since the Terps (6-4, 3-4) joined the Big Ten in 2014. Like the overall series, this one was all Nittany Lions thanks to Penn State's pass rush. Soggy conditions couldn't slow Penn State's front seven. Neither could Maryland's reeling offensive line.

Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was hit hard as he threw incomplete on the Terps' first play from scrimmage - an omen of things to come from a Nittany Lion defense that notched seven sacks, seven QB hurries, forced nine punts and three turnovers on down. The Nittany Lions did most of their damage early. They sacked Tagovailoa five times and held Maryland to just 27 total yards before halftime. By that point, Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford had put the game out of reach when he threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Strange just 6:08 in. Meanwhile, Singleton lapped Maryland's defense on a pair of fourth-and-inches runs that went for 45- and 27-yard touchdowns. Pinegar added field goals from 50 and 46 yards to put Penn State up 27-0 at halftime. Pinegar added a 21-yarder midway through the third. Tagovailoa finished 11 for 22 for 74 yards. Roman Hemby led the Terps with 68 rushing yards on 13 carries. - Penn State/AP College Football

Nick Singleton had 21 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown, Penn State's defense forced three turnovers and the No. 11 Nittany Lions outlasted Northwestern 17-7 on Saturday. Sean Clifford completed 10 of 20 passes for 140 yards with a touchdown and Kaytron Allen added 86 rushing yards on 21 carries to help Penn State (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) stay unbeaten heading into an off week. Both teams struggled early, combining for six turnovers in the first half after heavy rain drenched Beaver Stadium just before kickoff. Penn State coughed up the ball twice on its first three drives. Xander Mueller recovered a Singleton fumble and Bryce Gallagher intercepted Clifford, but Penn State's defense kept the Wildcats (1-3, 1-1) from taking advantage.

Northwestern gained just 13 yards in the first quarter and gave the ball back when Ji'Ayir Brown intercepted Ryan Hilinski and returned it to midfield. Clifford led a quick, 5-play drive from there, and found tight end Brenton Strange open in the flat. Strange leapt over a defender at the goal line to make it 7-0 late in the first. Hilinski didn't complete his first pass until 10 minutes before halftime. Shortly afterward, a bad snap bounced at his feet and Penn State defensive end Nick Tarburton hopped on it. The Nittany Lions turned that giveaway into points, too, when Singleton plowed in from two yards out seven plays later. Singleton's up and down day continued, with the freshman fumbling again Penn State's next possession when Rod Heard drilled him behind the line of scrimmage. Cameron Mitchell recovered for the Wildcats. But they couldn't block Tarburton. - Penn State/AP College Football

Nick Singleton rushed 10 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns and Penn State's defense dominated Ohio 46-10 on Saturday. Penn State (2-0) hadn't had a 100-yard rusher since November 2020, but got big run after big run from Singleton, a freshman who torched the Bobcats for touchdown sprints of 70 and 44 yards in the first and fourth quarters. In between, quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Drew Allar played clean enough and the Nittany Lion defense bore down to force eight punts, a safety and a turnover on downs. Ohio (0-2) crossed midfield just three times. Meanwhile, Penn State's offense continued to blossom.

Clifford completed 19-of-27 passes for 213 yards, ran for a score and threw for another as Penn State scored on three of its first five possessions. The sixth-year quarterback capped a 12-play opening drive with a 1-yard scoring plunge before Singleton dashed down the sideline on the Nittany Lions' second possession to make it 14-0 late in the first quarter. Clifford threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Mitchell Tinsley in the third before yielding to Allar. The Nittany Lions didn't miss a beat with the freshman running the offense, and more than 107,000 fans who packed Beaver Stadium cheered loudly when he entered. - Penn State/AP College Football

FRESHMEN WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS TO WATCH IN 2022: NICK SINGLETON, RB, Penn State,...A five-star speedster and the Gatorade National Player of the Year for 2021 grew up a Penn State fan and could be the answer to a sluggish run game. It could help mightily that he enrolled early and took part in spring practice, too. Becoming a more complete player is a big part of his challenge. "He's a very gifted runner," offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said. "I think we have a really good backfield and Nick is a special talent. But he has still got to progress in protections and just the fundamental tailback plays." - AP College Football
