Kyle Whittingham's worst fears from Saturday night have been confirmed. The University of Utah football coach on Monday morning announced that senior tight end Brant Kuithe will miss the remainder of the season with a lower leg injury. "That's a big blow to our offense," Whittingham said. "He was a huge part of what we do offensively. But we'll have to have guys step up and and pick up the slack." Whittingham added that if Kuithe wants to return next season, that option is available to him.

Junior tight end Thomas Yassmin, who barely started playing American football in 2018, "will take most of the reps that would be typically for Brandt." On the final play of the first quarter, Kuithe came up gimpy after hauling in his second catch of the night, an 11-yard strike from Rising down to the Utah 28-yard line. The three-time All-Pac-12 tight end was helped to the injury tent, where he spent 20 minutes of real time. He peeked his head out of the tent with 5:14 to play in the first half without his shoulder pads and a towel over his head. Kuithe eventually emerged from the tent with his right knee wrapped in ice before taking crutches and having a seat on the bench. It is unlikely, but Kuithe does have the option to return for a sixth year in 2023 since this injury happened in his fourth game and he has not taken a redshirt during his career. - Salt Lake Tribune

Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz delivered unfortunate news for Missouri's offensive line on Tuesday. Zeke Powell, who had been the team's starting right tackle, is out for the season after being injured against Auburn. "He's a tough young man, we're going to be here for him," Drinkwitz said. "We're chasing two dreams and we're definitely going to make sure that life outside of the game is taken care of." Powell has no further eligibility, so the injury will effectively end his college football career. - Columbia Daily Tribune

Tennessee and North Carolina State broke into the top 10 of The Associated Press college football poll Sunday, and Florida State is back in the rankings for the first time in four years. Georgia remained No. 1 and received 55 of 63 first-place votes in the Top 25, presented by Regions Bank. No. 2 Alabama (four first-place votes), No. 3 Ohio State (four first-place votes), No. 4 Michigan and No. 5 Clemson all held their places.

Oklahoma's upset loss to Kansas State created room for teams to move up, like Southern California to No. 6 and Kentucky to No. 7. Tennessee moved up three spots to No. 8, its best ranking since 2006 and first top-10 appearance since a few weeks at ninth in the first half of 2016. That was the last time the Volunteers started 4-0. The Vols knocked Florida out of the rankings by snapping a five-game losing streak in the rivalry. Oklahoma State remained at nine and North Carolina State jumped two spots to No. 10. The Wolfpack have their best ranking since they were 10th in 2002. - AP College Football

Cameron Rising threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns to tight end Dalton Kincaid, and No. 13 Utah rolled past Arizona State 34-13 on Saturday night. The Utes spoiled the debut of Arizona State's Shaun Aguano, who was named interim coach earlier this week after Herm Edwards was fired following last weekend's loss to Eastern Michigan. Utah (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12) won its third straight since a season-opening loss to Florida. Arizona State (1-3, 0-1) lost its third in a row. Utah never trailed, jumping ahead 7-0 in the first quarter when Rising hit Kincaid for a wide-open 29-yard touchdown. The Rising-Kincaid connection hooked up again later in the first quarter when Kincaid made a tough, fourth-down catch in traffic for a 6-yard score that pushed the advantage to 14-0.

The Utes built a 17-0 lead by midway through the second quarter and led 24-6 at halftime. Utah outgained Arizona State 252-59 in the first half. Rising completed 19 of 29 passes and the Utes finished with 465 total yards. Arizona State's Emory Jones was 21 of 36 passing for 261 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Utah's defense sacked Jones five times and the Sun Devils didn't score a touchdown until the final minutes when the outcome was already decided. It's been a week of upheaval for the Arizona State program, which fired Edwards on Sunday, one day after an embarrassing 30-21 loss to Eastern Michigan. The program is also in the midst of an NCAA investigation that involves recruiting violations. Aguano - formerly the running backs coach - was named the interim coach. He was born and raised in Kapaa, Hawaii, but eventually became one of the most decorated high school coaches in Arizona history, leading Chandler High to four state 6A titles. - Utah/AP College Football

The Eagles punted four times and Phil Jurkovec was picked off twice, once each by Omarion Cooper and Greedy Vance. BC finished with seven punts. BC scored its first points late in the third quarter, when Jurkovec connected with Alex Broome on a 5-yard TD reception. - Florida State/AP College Football
