Clemson leading receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a back injury against SMU this past weekend. Coach Dabo Swinney said Monday that Wesco had a "very serious" back injury but did not disclose more details. Wesco was injured on a punt return, when he landed almost directly on his head/neck area after a low tackle sent him somersaulting in the air upside down. Though he got up and walked to the sideline on his own, he never returned to the field and was taken to the hospital in Greenville, South Carolina, for further evaluation. Swinney said Wesco was released from the hospital Monday and was resting at home, and that the injury could have been far worse. "It was a very, very scary injury, and the doctors did an amazing job," Swinney said in a teleconference with local reporters. "The doctors are very confident he'll make a full recovery. Definitely something that'll keep him out the rest of this season, but thankful that all indications are he's going to be OK. Just a real blessing for that." Wesco leads Clemson with 31 catches for 537 yards and six touchdowns. He thanked those who sent him prayers on his Instagram stories Monday. - ESPN College Football

WEEK 8 ACC DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK: Jy Gilmore, R-Jr., DB, Georgia Tech (Citra, Florida),...Stuffed the stat sheet with 11 tackles, including 1.5 tackles-for-loss and 0.5 sacks, and two pass breakups in Georgia Tech's 27-18 win at Duke, which handed the Blue Devils their first ACC loss of the season...His individual effort led a defensive performance that held Duke to less than half of its season scoring average coming into the game (the Blue Devils were averaging 36.5 points per game prior to Saturday)...Part of a Yellow Jackets' defense that held Duke to a season-low 68 rushing yards...A key cog of the Tech defense that was especially stout in the second half, as it held Duke to just 66 yards and no points over three series spanning 14:53, which allowed the Yellow Jackets' offense to score on four-straight possessions, turning a 10-7 deficit into a commanding 27-10 lead. - ACC Football

Mateen Bhaghani kicked a 23-yard field goal with two seconds to play, and UCLA beat Maryland 20-17 Saturday night to extend its improbable season turnaround with a third consecutive victory. Nico Iamaleava passed for 221 yards and led three scoring drives in the final six minutes despite going down with an apparent knee injury during that wild stretch for the Bruins (3-4, 3-1 Big Ten), who managed to stay on the upswing in their roller coaster of a season. "I think it's all about belief, (and) the guys believe," UCLA interim head coach Tim Skipper said. "There's nothing that happened throughout the game that's going to take our confidence away, and you don't really know that until you get in a tight game like that. I found out today that these guys believe."

Iamaleava threw a go-ahead, 14-yard touchdown pass to Mikey Matthews with 3:33 to play, and Bhaghani's first field goal put the Bruins up 17-10 with 2:09 to play shortly after Scooter Jackson intercepted Malik Washington's pass deep in Maryland territory. But Washington, who passed for 210 yards, led the Terrapins (4-3, 1-3) on a dramatic drive, hitting Jalil Farooq for an 8-yard TD with 40 seconds left. Iamaleava, who appeared to have a serious injury only moments earlier, returned to the field and drove the Bruins 68 yards in 31 seconds. "I knew with Nico, when I saw him start to walk off and his face started to come back normal, I was like, "Hey, we have a shot here," Skipper said with a grin. Iamaleava completed two passes for 33 yards before Anthony Frias - who made an early 55-yard touchdown run for UCLA - made a 35-yard run to the Maryland 5 to set up Bhaghani's tiebreaking field goal. "It just shows how much of a leader (Iamaleava) is," Matthews said. "He came back and pushed through. He has that dog in him, no matter what." The Bruins rallied to win despite committing three turnovers in these schools' first meeting since 1955, including an interception returned 8 yards for a touchdown by Maryland's Jamare Glasker in the third quarter. UCLA also went nine straight drives without scoring before Matthews' TD catch. - UCLA/AP College Football

Raleek Brown bulled in for a 1-yard touchdown with 34 seconds left and Arizona State rallied after blowing a 12-point, fourth-quarter lead to hand No. 7 Texas Tech its first loss of the season, 26-22 on Saturday. The Red Raiders (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) labored most of the afternoon without starting quarterback Behren Morton (knee), finishing with 276 total yards after averaging an FBS-best 558.8 through the first six games. Will Hammond showed his mettle after failing to move Texas Tech's offense through three quarters, orchestrating two late scoring drives. The freshman scored on a 1-yard run and, after Texas Tech's defense held, found Reggie Virgil on a 12-yard touchdown pass. Hammond put the Red Raiders up 22-19 by running it in for the 2-point conversion - after a holding call on Arizona State on the first attempt - but left too much time on the clock. The reigning Big 12 champion Sun Devils (5-2, 3-1) started the final drive from their 25 with two minutes left and quickly moved down the field.

Sam Leavitt completed 5 of 7 passes for 61 yards on the drive and benefited from a pass interference call on Texas Tech's Brice Pollack to set up Brown's TD run. The Red Raiders reached Arizona State's 28 on its final drive, but Hammond's desperation heave into the end zone was swatted down. Texas Tech followed No. 2 Miami, No. 5 Mississippi and No. 10 LSU to become the fourth top-10 team to lose this weekend. Texas Tech was without defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard, who had season-ending ankle surgery this week, and the Sun Devils took advantage by racking up 394 total yards against one of the nation's best defenses. Arizona State had a hard time finishing drives, settling for four field goals by Jesus Gomez, but came through at just the right time. Leavitt threw for 319 yards and hit Jordyn Tyson on a 2-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter after missing last week's game against Utah with a foot injury. - Arizona State/AP College Football

Clemson wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. was hospitalized after landing awkwardly on his neck after getting flipped in the air on a punt return in the third quarter of Saturday in a 35-24 loss to SMU. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney described the injury as "serious," but did not elaborate on Wesco's condition. Swinney later asked at his news conference that fans keep Wesco in their prayers, reiterating the serious nature of the injury. The crowd drew a collective gasp when Wesco raced up the middle of the field after fielding a punt and was hit low, causing him to flip high in the air and land on his neck. The neck bent awkwardly as he hit the ground. However, Wesco bounced right up and appeared fine as he jogged to the sideline without receiving any medical attention on the field. Wesco was looked at on the sideline by trainers. He did not return to the game. It wasn't made public that he had been transported to the hospital until Swinney made the announcement after the game. Bryant had 31 catches for 537 yards and six touchdowns coming into the game, but did not have a catch Saturday. - AP College Football

Ta'Quan Roberson passed for a career-high 403 yards, firing a 16-yard touchdown pass to Victor Snow with 21 seconds left and Buffalo stunned Massachusetts 28-21 on Saturday after a late celebration penalty cost the Minutemen their first victory of the season. AJ Hairston threw two touchdown passes and UMass (0-7, 0-3 Mid-American Conference) led 21-20 after Jeremiah McGill picked off Roberson with 59 seconds remaining. But the Minutemen were flagged for celebrating the pick and had to start their drive at their 10-yard line instead of the 25. After two running plays lost 5 yards, Hairston threw incomplete and Buffalo (4-3, 3-0) got the ball back at midfield with 41 seconds left. Roberson hit Jasaiah Gathings for a 14- and 20-yard gains before Snow's go-ahead catch.

Kezion Dia-Johnson hauled in his first career touchdown pass on a 27-yard strike from Hairston and freshman Brandon Hood raced 90 yards for a touchdown on a first-down play as the Minutemen took a 14-3 second-quarter lead. Hood's scoring run was the longest for UMass since Tom Dicker had a 94-yarder against Boston University in 1996. Roberson connected with Snow for a 23-yard touchdown and Buffalo trailed 14-10 at halftime. The Bulls grabbed a 17-14 lead on Terrance Shelton Jr.'s 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Max Dowling caught a pass from Hairston, bounced off a tackler and rumbled down the sideline for a 77-yard score as the Minutemen moved in front 21-17 with their first second-half touchdown of the season. Jack Howes had a field goal hit the upright before going through with 25 seconds left to cut it to 21-20 heading to the final quarter. Roberson completed 36 of 55 passes - both career highs - with an interception. Nik McMilian and Snow combined for 18 catches and 231 yards. Hairston had 119 yards on 6-for-14 passing and Hood carried 24 times for 179 yards. - Buffalo/AP College Football

Tucker Gleason threw a career-high four touchdown passes, Trayvon Rudolph caught one and had 119 yards receiving, and Kenji Christian rushed for 113 yards in Toledo's 45-10 win over Kent State on Saturday. Gleason was 21-of-28 passing for 294 yards, distributing each score to a different receiver. He opened the scoring for the Rockets (4-3, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) with a 58-yard strike to Rudolph. An 11-yard connection to Ryder Treadway made it 17-10 at the half.

The Rockets had a 552-224 advantage in total yardage, shutting down the Golden Flashes after the first quarter. Cade Wolford scored a 75-yard receiving touchdown on the first play from scrimmage from Kent State (2-5, 1-2), and a field goal two drives later made it 10-0 in the first quarter. From that point on, the Golden Flashes were shut out, mustering 84 yards of offense. Eric Williams blocked, recovered, and returned a punt for a 19-yard touchdown at the 4:25 mark of the third. - Toledo/AP College Football

Angel Flores scores on three short touchdown runs and Central Michigan defeated Bowling Green 27-6 on Saturday, snapping a 10-game road losing streak in Mid-American Conference games. Jordan Kwiatkowski returned an interception 26 yards to the Bowling Green 1-yard line to set up Flores' first touchdown for a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter and the Chippewas (4-3, 2-1) led from there. Flores scored from 6 yards out midway through the second quarter in a drive sparked by Joe Labas' 63-yard pass to Collin Payne and CMU went on to a 17-6 halftime lead.

Flores added his final TD from 3 yards out early in the third quarter. The score was set up by Brock Townsend's 37-yard run that took the ball to the Falcons' 2. CMU stuck to its ground game, rushing for 203 yards, led by Flores' 72 on 18 carries. The Chippewas attempted only five passes. Kwiatkowski led the defense with 14 tackles, including seven solo. Cade Graham kicked two field goals for CMU, including a career-long 47-yarder. The Falcons' only points came on two Jackson Kleather field goals, including a 49-yarder. Lucian Anderson III threw for 153 yards and was intercepted twice for Bowling Green (3-4, 1-2). - Central Michigan/AP College Football

Jordan Marshall ran for a tiebreaking touchdown late in the third quarter and Bryce Underwood threw his second touchdown pass early in the fourth to help Michigan pull away and beat Washington 24-7 on Saturday. The Wolverines (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) took control by scoring touchdowns after picking off passes on consecutive possessions and kicking a field goal after the Huskies (5-2, 2-2) turned it over on downs.

Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. threw two interceptions in a pivotal stretch of four passes in the third quarter and was picked off for a third time on the first snap of the following drive. Marshall, playing in place of injured running back Justice Haynes, had a career-high 133 yards rushing on 25 carries and his 14-yard touchdown run one snap after Williams' first interception put Michigan ahead 14-7. Underwood was 21 of 27 for 230 yards and matched a season high with two touchdown passes to fellow freshman Andrew Marsh on a 22-yard throw late in the first quarter and a 10-yard toss to Zach Marshall in the fourth. - Michigan/AP College Football

Miller Moss threw two touchdown passes to Chris Bell and ran for a score, Louisville intercepted four of Miami star Carson Beck's passes and the Cardinals got one of the most significant wins in their history by topping the second-ranked Hurricanes 24-21 on Friday night. Louisville (5-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) got touchdowns on its first two drives for a quick 14-0 lead, and the Hurricanes (5-1, 1-1) trailed the rest of the way. Louisville also snapped Miami's 10-game home winning streak. The last team to win at Miami? That was Louisville, in 2023. The Hurricanes were in field-goal range, but Louisville's TJ Capers intercepted Beck's pass at the 30 with 32 seconds left to seal the win. Moss completed 23 of 37 passes for 248 yards, and Isaac Brown ran for 113 yards on 15 carries for Louisville. Bell had nine catches for 136 yards, his TD grabs going for 35 and 36 yards. Beck completed 25 of 35 passes for 271 yards for Miami.

The Hurricanes had little success rushing the ball, generating only 63 yards on 24 carries against a Louisville team that came into the right with the No. 1 defense in the ACC. Louisville came into the game 1-8 against teams ranked Nos. 1 or 2 in the AP poll. The win was over then-No. 2 Florida State, a 63-20 romp in 2016. And on the road, there had never been a night like this for the Cardinals. They were 0-18 against Top 10 teams in true road games before Friday. Most of them weren't even close: Louisville dropped those games by an average - an average - of 26.3 points. Miami got to 14-10 at the half and trailed 17-13 going into the fourth, but Moss' 36-yard scoring grab with 13:27 remaining gave the Cardinals a two-score lead again. Beck - who threw two interceptions in the first half - had another picked off on the ensuing drive with 7:50 remaining, but Miami got the ball right back on a fumble. Malachi Toney scored on a 12-yard run one play after the fumble, then threw a 2-point conversion pass himself and Miami was right back in it - down 24-21. But the Hurricanes got no closer. - Louisville/AP College Football
